Granted this theory exists in Christianity as well but Christianity doesn't hold such a strong influence on government anymore as Islam does in the middle east. Separate religion from government and I tell you, there will be more peace in the middle east. East Asia the example. China, S'pore, Korea, developing very fast with better quality of life, why? Muslims in general find it difficult to accept anyone who is not Muslim as an equal. The same can be said for many christians. And therein lies the other fundamental problem. Mutual respect. Because of many verses in the Quran which basically belittles 'followers of the book', we non-muslims are considered evil, second class citizens, unequal under the eyes of god... and therefore should command little respect. For radical extremist, they see it as, killing someone who is not worthy.

political agendas ie. Iraq. Thirdly, there is a great difference in income distribution in the middle east. Compare the UAE with Egypt. Qatar with Iraq... There must be some level of resentment there as well. Basically, inability to separate religion and state, which in turn limits political development which limits economic development which then limits social development.
