Did anyone like the Castlevania for the N64? That game used to scare me shitless when I was younger xD. I remember having to ask someone if they could turn the color down on the T.V. so I could get passed some bloody parts...XD. Oh man, and that one part in the big garden maze with the chainsaw guy and his dogs...I nearly would have a heart attack when he started chasing me. I also didn't have a memory card for most of the time playing that game...:( Can you imagine how frustrating that was???
@IIxXGhostTrainXxII Lol the first stage of CV LOD for 64 where the Lightning hits the tree scared me when I played it earlier this yr, I so did not see that coming. That game had an eeriness that was unrivalled, and as much as I enjoyed LOS it was just missing that CV spirit that the 64 version embodied so well. I think AOS was the last Castlevania game to be truely eerie in its atmosphere and its musical score. Even though OOE is probably my favourite the later Castlevanias lost that quality.
I just downloaded this on xbox live and I put it on my personal list of favorite games of all time. I love exploring the castle and finding all the secret rooms and obtaining powerful weapons. I also love the bosses. I cant wait to reach the inverted castle :D
I love this game. Original reason I went out and bought a Playstation and made the jump from Nintendo. This is easily one of the 10 best video games I've ever played and I just downloaded it on PS3 last week and played through it again. It has aged well and is easily the greatest Castlevania game of all time. It takes the RPG element of Simon's Quest and really does something inventive with it. The music is also amazing.
@scottishboy1987 The great thing about the name Alucard is that it actually originates in an old black and white movie called Son Of Dracula. (Starring Lon Chaney Jr!) It's a great movie and I'd highly recommend it. All the characters who used that name afterward owe their inspiration to the premise of the film. Oddly enough, though, Alucard was a villain in the movie, and he's a hero or anti hero in most of his other incarnations.
ure talking like castlevania sotn invented its gameplay, but u forgot that metroid was the 1st one to do it and castlevanias after dracula x are exacly like metroid games...
I feel like a Total ass for missing this game on ps1, now I can only get it on XBL or PSN. (old ps1 copies now cost upwards of $100) I heard the XBL/PSN versions have some stuff taken out.
@Failmonkey You can get Dracula X Chronicles for PSP and unlock Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night, only it is not original. It has a different voice cast and a different script. Or you can buy the Konami Classics Volume 1 for the Xbox 360. That one has Symphony of the Night, Super Contra, and Frogger on it. I'm buying the one for Xbox 360 because I also missed out on getting Symphony of the Night for PS1.
@Failmonkey I got the US pPSN version and i didnt noitce anything missing.. cost me like 13 AUD, well worth it. i think ur thinking of the XBLA had the vandal sword enemies removed. The PSone classics are exactly like the OG PSone games
@MrZangetsu468 I read (from IGN's review I think) that a couple short and somewhat forgettable levels were cut from the XBLA/PSN release. Not much of a biggy I guess.
@IIxXGhostTrainXxII I think what you're thinking of is the fact that the Sega Saturn version had the underground Garden and the cursed prison (small areas) in addition to Maria as a playable character which were excluded from the original PSX version due to time constraints (they werent finished). When you buy PSONE classics, the PSONE game itself is a softcopy, it's not just Castlevania but applies for every PSONE Classic. I've played that same game countless times, I can't see any difference.
Hey this is a really great game and I loved playing it ages ago. One question... How is this a horror game? I was never scared once when I played this game and I doubt that most gamers ever got scared of this game either. I mean, it is dark, it has monsters, and things that could make a good horror game, but this game is far from that. Just wondering, now trying to bash you or anything lol
@EverDownward I suppose so. I don't see why else it would be on this list. But no matter, I absolutely love this game and I'm about to purchase a copy off either Amazon or Ebay and add to my PS1 collection. I've missed this game so!
@gggmoney314 I have it for both my PS1 and on my PSP through The Dracula X Chronicles. Either way, it's one of the best games I've ever played. You have good taste, sir :)
@EverDownward I have a question for you. Have you ever played Dracula X for the Super Nintendo? If so would you recommend purchasing it used despite the outrageous prices people want for it?
@gggmoney314 I have played Dracula X, and while I don't exactly remember much from it it was a decent game. It's original counterpart, Rondo of Blood, was far better but it was only released in Japan.
I say purchasing it depends on how much the asking price is. What is the price for it?
@gggmoney314 Haha, yeah, no. Dracula X is ok, but DEFINITELY not worth that price.
Your best bet is to either get an SNES emulator from the net and then download the game, or buy a PSP, and get "Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles" which comes with the original Rondo of Blood (English cast this time, too).
Great Castlevania game for its time. Imagine what would happen if Konami builds a new 2D Castlevania game for the PS3. With all of that memory space on a Blu-Ray disc, there would be so many levels and castles that it could take at least one year to complete.
I really want to play this game. My big brother has it on his X-Box 360, but there's a problem. Since we don't have an internet connection so I can't play it, only the demo is available. Also Alucard is Dracula spelled backwards. Eventually we will get in internet connection for it, but that's still a long way off.
The game is addicting, and fun with the exploration yet a little frustrating at times Spoiler Alert:Richter is insane in this Epic Subweapon:Holy Water
It is an amazing game but you forgot to mention the worst part no continues which means you go back to the main menu if you die this is incredibly annoying a lot of fans will ignore this and not mention it, but if you just picked up the game and your a noob your game session may be cut short due to frustration.
ive been watching alot of your horror reviews they are brilliant all of these games are favourites of mine and you have introduced me to some new ones too consider me a subscriber
One of the best games I have ever played. Only thing I would want to add to it are the songs: Vampire killer, Bloody Tears, Beginning, Simon's theme and Sinking old Santuary. And Richter mode actually has a story.
i've never played a castlevania game before and i'm thinking about getting this.i love platformers and metroid and rpgs. do u think this game would be good for me.
@mhendricks100 lol thats the game pretty much, but Order of Eclesia on the DS is a lot better (I'll get flamed for this but the gameplay is a lot faster and more responsive the game is also much more varied)
Castlevania sotn is awesome 5/5 for these reasons. Its differant then any other castlevania basically big map you can go higher then 200 percent the boses the gameplay the weps items the art story magic abilities leveling transformation last but not least the fukn music.oh and you can be richter belmont if you beat the game
Super Castlevania and this one (SOTN) are my favourite Castlevania's. Super castlevania has the best controls, you can attack in any direction, move when crouching etc etc
