Thx , this video helped alot, I've been searing takedowns on the internet and this is the most effective one, I was wonder if you guys or anyone can tell me why going on the knees doesnt work as well, all of the other net videos tell you to penetrate and go on teh knees and do takedowns, can anyone help me out? Thx
Sure, the downwards motion to the knee, is like landing a plane and it adds an additional 1/2 second to the move.
Olympic level guys lower their level (coil) and spring UP into the guy - shoulder hits their stomach and actually lifts them. This is the plane taking off (up) not landing the plane (down) when you drop down, it is also more difficult to get your motion back upwards.
This guy seems like a great instructor. He really has good teaching skills and communicates the moves well both physically and verbally. Very unusual to find both.
exactly i commented this video ahwhile ago becuase this guy was just like rush the feet under punches and then i was like wouldnt u just knee him but yours would actually work
I saw the same move at our state judo games done by a white belt mma fighter who entered the tournament to a black belt in the light heavy division. Big throw big ippon. 30 sec match.
Yep, good observation, in MMA don't put too much weight on the lead leg or you'll get checked. The shot has to be explosive and setup (w/Jab, Hook, Cross, combos, etc.) you'll get checked or worse - kneed in the face.
This is why we showed the double without going all the way down to the knee pound. It's easy to develop a bad habit of "landing the plane" (staying on your knees) vs. coiling & hitting him with your shoulder before the knee briefly hits. Thanks
this vid helped me so much

Hey Jeff,
Thanks for the video. What do you think about just checking the knee when you do the penetration step right before you hit with the shoulder?
