  • You've done a fantastic job on this song, well done! Sean

  • Nice version.

"Down by Blackwaterside" is a traditional song, with a well-known version being taken from a 1952 BBC archive recording of an irish traveller,Mary Doran. This version was taught to Anne Briggs by A.L.Lloyd.

She(Anne Briggs) taught it to Bert Jansch. She recorded her version in 1971.

  • Brilliantly played. Love the bends you introduce into the song. Double thumbs up! Plz check out mine when you have a spare moment! :-)

  • Wow mistical! You definitely can play! im going to be playing black mountain side at a show and i'd like to know the history of the song for when i introduce it... was it bert jansch that arranged it before zeppelin?

  • Excellent guitar playing, nice voice. That is an odd looking guitar.

  • i love the way you shake your head in some parts..haha..

    lovely cover bro..and nice singing..

  • Superb!!

Nailed it, with your own style.

    Who could ask for more?

  • What tuning?

  • dropped D

  • I'm impressed with the sound quality of that little Bovey.

This is a great version of this song. Thank you for posting. =]

  • Hi mate, bumped into Icy and Cragus Wilsonicus the other day. The message was clear: Get back ON THE DRINK!

  • ooh. nice!

  • Great Vids!

  • Love it !

  • That little Brook sounds great. I've been thinking of getting a short scale axe for a while cos I've got small hands.

  • wow

  • such a pleasant tune to listen to

  • sweet playing - keep up the good work!

  • Pcsbyte how old are you just ?

  • I back Black Water 100 percent.

  • i hope you know what your saying :}

  • A man playin awesome on guitar with a funky beired and a confused look on his face. classic!

  • Very beautiful. For some reason I can't seem to work through it myself. Partly because people play it in different tunings and in different keys.

Does anyone know of a YouTube video where someone teaches the song? I.e. slows it down and breaks it into its components?

    Thanks,

  • Great performance!!! Well played and interpreted. Bravo!!! 5 stars. It makes me longing for learning this beautiful song

  • Thank you so much. It took me a long time to learn to play this and sing at the same time but it certainly paid off. It's one of my favourites to play.

  • Dude you play amazing !!

  • Thanks man!

  • there are many diferent versions of Black Water side on you tube. My opinion : the yours is the best, even better than of Bert Jansch one. congratulations

  • Wow, thank you so much for the kind words! That's the nicest compliment I have ever been paid about my playing.

  • led zeppelin has plagiarized this song.

  • Songs should not be taken for property. There's so much songs that were, and even today, are interpreted by different people and I think it's good because different interpretetions can give different feel to the songs... I hope you won't call plagiarism all the solos on All the Things You Are that all the jazzmen record...

  • Very good. I like your guitar sound and vocals to. This is my favorite. Thank you. Gustavo

  • Thanks Cams for posting that,

well played,to me this seems more honest and traditional to the meaning.

I really like this version because it has that "dirge" backbeat. Odd guitar, 1/2 size giving a higher tone.

Please do you have a version of The Gardener on youtube?

  • Great tune man...

  • love the guitar

    what make is it?

    great job!

  • Cool was actually looking for sandy denny version but this is grat too.x

  • Thanks!

  • Superb love that tone ,great vocal..all the bedt vincent

  • Thanks!

  • is the guitar based on the Bert jansch version or did you arrange it your own?

  • It's based on the Jansch version.

  • That's really touching. Great!

  • Thanks!

  • I'm in the process of learning this song myself so have checked out a number of versions on here and have found yours has about the closest feel and sound to Jansch's version...may I ask how you went about learning it?

  • I have the tab from a Mel Bay book entitled British Fingerpicking Guitar by Stefan Grossman.

  • Hi Camuel,

Can you outline the tuning you used? Drop D - or DADGAD? I've seen so many different renderings of the song (mixed between Jansch and Page) that I'm curious to know what tuning you're using.

  • My version's in dropped D

  • very, very good. I like your singing voice, too.

  • Thanks!

  • nice house, good song, super performance

  • Thanks! I recorded it in my attic, which is where my office is located. I can just about stand up safely in the middle!
