  • Seems like he was malnourished from the start judging by how lumpy his shell is. Their carapace should be smooth and not have pronounced ridges or pyramids like this one did. danlelle26 (Baby Sulcata carrying lettuce) has some vids of her tortie (same type yours was) showing healthy shell development if you are curious what to look for next time you invest in a sulcata

  • it walks normaly???

  • he seems dehydrated probly due to the infection, sry for your loss. RIP.

  • @efciem hey i just brought 2 russian tortoises and im starting to worry about one of them because her shell has minor cracks is she growing or is it just bad and also what does pyramiding do?

  • @senaykorkut1 : you can get it checked out prefferebly so no infections settle in. pyramiding is the abnormally growing apperance of the torts shell, due to lack of calcium, UVB/UVA lighting, alot of natural sunlight and high reptile formula with lots of calcium.

  • my tortoise ziggy had the same thing and he died :( now we have mr t and hes growing really fast , i think hel be hibernating next year all winter hes been lazy and not eating every day.....my boys growing up lol

  • aw thats so sad :( how can i prevent this from my tortoise?

  • Actually, that's pyramiding and given the age of the tort, the owner is solely responsible due to a bad diet and bad living conditions.

  • Is it me or there's quite a bit of pyramiding for such a young sulcata?

  • I'm sorry this happened. Yeah, when the diet is good, I also agree its the light. I'm not sure if you already answered that but 6 months is around the appropriate time to replace. In this sort of an instance it might be wise to try mercury vapor bulbs. I've never had any for my sully, just have the regular Zilla desert50 uvbs. They've always worked great for my sullys indoor setup. So I don't know, try mvbs but if they're too expensive, regular uvb.

  • I have a small golden greek tortoise. it is about 6 months old. it is very sick right now. shell is soft, it refuses to eat or to move. I soak it in a water.

all the necessary conditions for its well-being were provided by me from the beginning: UVB light, special reptile bedding, heating pads (the tempr. is always between 86 - 75), variety of foods (primarily salad greens ), daily vitamins: calcium, fiber, protein. the place i live in doesn't have any good vet for the exotic reptiles. HELP!

  • Well, I'm REALLY, REALLY, REALLY sorry your turtle passed on. It's sad to know that one of your friends passed on before time.

  • thats sad! i dont know wat id do if my little girl died! thats y im really careful of wat i feed her and everything! i give her water and a bath once a week and wash all her food! and clean up after her like twice a day!

    im sorry urs passed on!

  • I'm sorry your little guy couldn't be saved. The first year of life is always the hardest.

  • That isnt funny, plus its disturbing.

  • who said it was funny?

  • aww sorry to hear that...but my sulcata tortoise is 2 inches and she has a soft underside and It looks like she feels pain when pushed and she barely opens her eyes...she is always sleeping and sitting in one spot....help!!!!

  • Sorry to hear that.....

  • Unfortunately, Our little guy never recovered from his paracite infection. He likely had it since well before we got him. last week after yet another vet visit.. he passed on.

diagnosis was MBD due to severe lack of nutrients likely from the heavy paracite infestation. Even though we got treatment for him starting within a week of our getting him.. the vets couldnt get his appetite / activity level up to where it needed to be.

  • I have had good luck perking up baby sulcatas by letting them soak and drink a good soy drink like Silk. Tonka, now at Zoomars (youtube) was mine. Good Luck!

  • is he ok now?

  • Turns out He had worms, even though vet visit 2 weeks before with a fecal exam came back negative. he's just received his 2nd dose of Panicure and he's doing better. Still sleepy/lethargic but when we can get him active he moves MUCH better. and perks up when he's outside. So improving slowly. Thanks for asking!

  • The way he walks, it doesn't look right.. Does your vet know enough about reptiles? Anyway, hope he will be okay soon!!
