Reminds me of those "born again" speakers that came to my school years ago... They go on about the wild parties, wild sex, mind altering drugs that made them see the world in wild new ways... but then they get older, women don't want them as much, partying seems kind of sad and that's when "jesus came into their life" and filled them with the need to tell kids to stay away now that they're bitter and can't get as much pussy.
I don't have the intended reaction to that show either-- I feel jealousy for these junkies that have huge, loving families and 45 friends who ball their eyes out during the intervention. I only have my cat. ;(
they get to go to some rehab facility in Florida and everybody coddles them and is super supportive
reminds me of that bit Patton Oswalt did about people who are alcoholics who are considered heroes when they recover, like it is an inspirational story.
and he is like, what about people that can control their drinking? dont they deserve any credit??
@eyehategumbo no, because change is hard. Kicking addiction isn't easy. If you've never been addicted you don't know that. If your whole life is wrapped up in your addiction, kicking it can be incredibly scary because it means abandoning a lot of your friends, your day to day activities, your coping mechanisms with difficult emotions and situations, etc. Someone who never gets addicted isn't inspiring, because they don't change anything, they just happen to have good self control.
@xdearlifex no i blieve ur making n excuse..... & wen u say " Someone who never gets addicted isn't inspiring" is SUCH a weak argument. i think u, like many ppl who r/were addicted, r looking for sympathy 4 da mistake they make. every person has da ability 2 understand & b aware of ther situation no matter how tragic & ppl that dont r either uneducated/ dont care bout da choice they make. if ppl were 2 venture into that addicted realm for "inspiration" ther is a responsible way of doing it...
@exhstd02 You shouldn't even TRY to analyze the experience of recovering addicts...because you obviously don't get it at all. You seem to think people become addicts because they are weaker than the rest of us, that they lack something we have, that they're ignorant or irresponsible and they deserve it. That's your way of making yourself feel better about it, and convincing yourself that it'll never happen to you because you're somehow 'better' than them. Well, go on with that bullshit.
@mangarda i dont know how u can analyze me based on my argument ... maybe instead of taking it as a personal attack as everyone who feels sorry for themselves does u could try to understand my view or not. my comment is based on the addict getting themselves in that situation and i agree there are lost souls trying to redeem themselves and i can speculate on the hardships of breaking it however i believe my statement is true
@eyehategumbo "what about people that can control their drinking? dont they deserve any credit??" They do if they got inappropriately touched by their abusive father first, right after having their 2nd miscarriage. If you watched intervention you know it's never JUST the addiction they're recovering from, it's always some other really fucked up shit beneath the surface that's the REAL issue...
@eyehategumbo I think the real issue here is, why do hate gumbo? I personally think that it is delicious. Do you hate seafood gumbo? or just chicken and sausage? I PERFER THE SEAFOOD VARIETY.
people that drink they get credit because they found god
