It's not a bad thing at all! Firstly, the jobs taken by robotics and automation are usually jobs where precision is required or extreme conditions etc. Secondly, who do you think will install the robotics, and perform maintenance on them? Obviously it takes jobs from certain people in certain industries, what better reason to get a better job! Just because robots can weld, does not mean they are always perfect!
@xh0rsex You missed the point....technology in the current monetary system is a bad thing because it replaces jobs but in a resource based economy (thevenusproject(dot)com) it is a good thing because it frees people from mundane and repetitive labor.
All of this is great stuff.. But we have to keep a level head during the transition out of money.. Otherwise we wont have any infrastructure left.. The transition is going to be a bitch! I'll be amazed if we make it out alive into something like the VP..
WOW! thats scary, but on a side note, I would rather have that robot than the notoriously rude fast food workers. EXTINCT: Thank you come again, Have a great day. Its a pleasure to serve you, SO ON AND SO FORTH.
@AKNigel you can't jump to that 80% unemployment conclusion without knowing every statistic from every sector including new jobs and outsourcing - we should probably be close to 20. Yeah, you are right. Replacing fast food kitchen staff, taxi drivers, restaurant waiters, landscapers, construction, warehouse and manufacturing workers, is totally NOT a problem because there are sooooo many jobs being created right now.
In our profit based economy, the loss of jobs would be a problem. In the Venus project, the technology would free us from mundane jobs and we would have better jobs that further the advancement of civilization as a whole.but, tech can be used in a harmful way too. If there were no screw you in business attitude the miss use of tech would be low.
My head is not in the sand. I can continue this discussion if you're interested but i don't like to do it in YT-comments. PM me for instant messaging address.
Wow, I had no idea people actually thought that about technology, it's like the idea that by off-shoring jobs there are none left for people. I'm not even going to explain why this idea is historically and theoretically not reality, I doubt people would want to think about it another way that would challenge their beliefs.
@AKNigel Technological Unemployment is a reality..." In 1949, machines did 6% of the cotton picking in the South. By 1972, 100%. In 1860, 60% of America worked in . Agriculture, while today it is less than 3%. In 1950, 33% of US workers worked in Manufacturing, while by 2002 there was only 10%. The US steel industry, from 1982 to 2002 increased production from 75m tons to 120m tons, while steel workers went from 289,000 to 74,000"
It is more profitable to replace humans in this profit system
@DiegoTheEditor Thank you! I think we've got the same point. If you add up the numbers you just listed (I can't do it precisely w/o more info) unemployment should be at 80%+ not our current ghastly 10%. That's why saying that technology taking low skilled jobs its a problem Isn't a debatable argument, it's so wrong it's silly. Sorry Zeitgeisters and anti-outsourcers :( Economics 101.
@AKNigel 10% only accounts for those eligible for UI. if you have exceeded your UI benefits window or not eligible you will not be counted. The total number of people not working in in the U.S. is closer to 20%. If you look globally at least 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day. Pan handlers make about that much in North America.
With growing rates of automation, there wont be enough jobs for the population to make a living. A job gets you income which ensures your financial survival. Creating abundance for all the worlds people, eliminates the incentive for theft, fraud, and corruption. Why hoard or steal that which is abundant and available to you.

cool video, it's clear the direction progress is heading. but will social progress keep up? We might have to force them to keep up.

not at all, evolution will kick in, no need for fascism. Nature will make the judgment for us.
