I didn't know about Blackjack, but I knew Bolton rocked in 1983. I have that album on vinyl. On this song I can hear his Soul sound of the 90s. 1979 had Foreigner, Cheap Trick, AC/DC, KIss, Journey. Too much competition for this band to break thru.
I had the 1st album but lost it and Ive' been looking for their 2 albums on cd but still can't find it,every song on the 1st album were classic's, it only had 2 ballads and one of those had a lynyrd skynyrd southern rock sound to it, their sound has a mix of Bad Company, 38 Special, AOR with early Whitesnake band jamming, Bolton almost sounds like mid 80's Coverdale meets young Paul Rodgers. It just rocks.
Black Jack sounded very close to the early Whitesnake... In fact, they was like an american version of WS. Michael Boltom even looks and sound a lot like David Coverdale, at that time... Nice!!!
That's for the introduction to Black Jack~where Michael Bolton first started out~this is entering my playlist as the start of Michael when he was Rock~thanks~
There's a rumor that Michael Bolton might do a heavier Rock album with a Country flare. At least if that's the case, that means he's revisiting his days as a Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Artist.
i've got the cd reissue-2 albums on one disc. I met Bruce a 2 years ago (now with Grand Funk Railroad),he's one of the nicest guys. Their music here ehhhhhh.....
I think record production and recording peaked in the 70s before any of the digital stuff. Digital reverb and drum machines changed it in the early 80s and it's never really recovered IMO. This is pure engineering and production skill making this sound good, instead of a bunch of procesing and computer editing- vocal correction, drum replacement, etc, etc.
Haslip never had a really cool look :-) He went on to become one of the most successful studio bass player. He was a founding member of jazz giants Yellowjackets (he is still with them). Over the years, he played with lots of guys including Michael Bolton, KISS, Bruce Hornsby, Pat Metheny and Cher.
dude, you should post some viedo clips with songs, even if they just have black text with the song title. it's impossible for people to get this stuff, that would be awesome.
Michael bolton is my idol. I have a life-size cut out of him. I lay it next to me in bed and kiss it every night before I go to bed. His rendition of "When a man loves a woman" brings a tear to my eye everytime. I don't care when people call him a "no talent assclown".
Not that I can find. The band had already broken up by the time My World is Empty Without You was released as the first single, so I'm assuming there's no video for either one.
i agree, but a lot of artist start out with one style and then they switch, cause they know they can get sign or someone will make them a offer if they switch over. look @ kenny rogers he started out playin rockin roll. but i agree with u though.
by the way, Bolton's real name is Bolotin. That's how he appears on this album. I have it in my collection. He changed his name after leaving the band.
Michael Bolton (bolotin?) did two solo records as well before going adult contemp. He really pushed his vocals and played some guitar. Anyone recall Everybody's Crazy? He was on Rockline talking about this project
Yes...you can see the "Everybody's Crazy" video elsewhere on youtube. Although Bruce Kulick (from Blackjack) was the guitar player on the song, he is not in the video as he was touring with KISS at the time.
I felt Michael's voice was well suited for rock, but a bit more so on his solo effort then shown here. He did play guitar on those two albums? I had a hard time recalling the video, but I seem to recall a blurb in Hit Parader magazing saying he got his start VERY early on.
In case of name Bolotin? This is Michael Bolton's real name which he changed after leaving the band.I have this album in my collection and it says pretty clearly-voals,Michael Bolotin.

OMG its sandy OMG LOOK AT HIS HAIR!!
bowielover 4 years ago
LOL, I know - Sandy looks like a little girl. Hits drums like a man, though!
Gennaro is a killer drummer with a long list of creds.
Jimmy Haslip is just chillin' and 'playing for the song' on these cuts, but he's simply a freak on bass.
...and everyone knows that Mike and Bruce are both enjoying stellar careers.
Reminds me of the Edgar Winter Group classic 1972 lineup, where every member later went on to mega-stardom on their own.
