  • Well, I thought about Steinbrenner as well. He would certainly qualify as a public figure subject to parody. I’m not sure Peterman would likewise.

  • What does the real Mr. Peterman mean when he said that the first he knew he was to be on Seinfeld was when someone he knew said he saw the character on the show? They can use someone real without his permission? The real (Kenny) Kramer made many demands for the right to use his name and they were met. This is unbelievable.

  • @litwriter100 I'm sure Mr. Peterman signed something and was paid for their continued use of the J. Peterman Catalogue on the show. The character of "Jacopo Peterman" was not at all based on John Peterman (other than owning the J. Peterman Catalogue) and it may have been tacitly covered in their first J. Peterman agreement.

They may have learned a lesson from their Kenny Kramer dealings. I'm pretty sure they never bothered to ask George Steinbrenner's permission.

  • This narrator is too upbeat for Seinfeld. He's gotta sound kind of like a cynical jackass.

  • @TheBackOfTheBoat Agreed. I can't believe they found a way to make J. Peterman UNFUNNY!

  • haha poor guy, but he seems OK with it. so its all good :)
