  • i saw a top documentary that had carl sagan, steven hawkings and arther c clarke debating life the universe and everything. it changed the way i look at things, he was a brilliant man RIP!

  • All Earth´s people loves you, Carl... rest in Peace and good travel to the Stars

  • too soon.

  • puxa vida carl sagan tinha q ser imortal :(

  • sometimes I wish Carl Sagan found what he was looking for...He helped with the voyager project...I wish he found that life he was looking for, and the answers he not only wanted but needed as a man of science...and a man of dreams..

  • :'(

  • I heard him speak when he was ill. It was his book, Contact, in which he wrote about the first contact from an extra terrestrial intelligence, that I felt his influence and learned a lot. The book is somewhat dull but embedded in it is one sentence: "In her mind she thought she could hear one joyous shout amidst a clamor of other voices." Ellen Arroway has just found out the signal is not 'local'. Amidst a clamor of other 'voices'....? I wonder if he's still a skeptic?

  • he died two days before I was born :(

  • What killed him ?

  • I miss Mr Sagan. To me, sagan was the person responsible for my addiction to space.

  • Now I am depressed

I guess I will watch the tribute series and become somewhat happy. :/

  • Sagan remains a huge influence on me even today. His work was essential in igniting my imagination as a child. He encouraged my desire to explore and to understand reality itself. Whenever I feel depressed about the state of our species and the oncoming new world order, I will watch an episode of Cosmos. It reminds me of humanity's enormous untapped potential and our collective desire to improve ourselves through knowledge and spiritual maturity. Long Live Free Humanity!

  • @SamGuthrie1977 the motionless Earth is at the centre of the universe, placed by God who transcends any pathetic "new world order".

  • Oh, he was an exceptional human. Carl Sagan is my idol. I would have loved to meet him, but then he died when I was only six years old.

  • Died too young.

  • @shimatetsuo2019 any age would have been too young ;(

  • Carl Sagan forever.

  • haha, how ironic.

  • my left ear doesnt know whats going on, my right ear is now inspired

  • Good piece.

  • 0:25 Sagan was an Arthur?

  • @ignorantswede No, he was a Carl.

  • I've noticed that throughout history, the greatest examples of human spirit and ingenuity have died before natural death could take its course.

    Carl Sagan- cancer

    Martin Luther king jr.- assassinated

    President John, F, Kennedy- assassinated

    Scatman John- lung cancer

Abe Lincoln - assassinated Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi-assassinated

And dozens more. We remember them for what they did or tried to do. After all we're only human right?

  • @comradeJoe2 Vecause cancer is not natural at all....

    Idiot.

  • @mrangelojohn ::Actually,cancer is natural; it is handled by the immune system assuming that system is working well.

  • @comradeJoe2 The great ones are always taken from us to soon.

  • @sizzlebie Probably because they are not so great afterall...

  • The most inspirational person I've ever known died a year before I was born :'(

  • I pity those who can't see the beauty of the universe, as you hate those who aren't blinded by lies

  • @shift4chizzle either you or me... Good luck!

  • First Carl Sagan, then Christopher Hitchens.

  • @OhmgrownCron The world is a little more dumb without those great minds...

  • @OhmgrownCron ::: One wonders what their reaction was should they have found that the afterlife is real.

  • The world lost a brilliant man that day, but he contributed so much to astronomy, philosophy, and literature that it's clear that his legacy was never really lost.

  • Person of the Week?

How about Person of the F*cking Century.

  • @randomperson2538 Abert Einstein got that one, rightly so,...and I'm sure Carl would have agreed.

  • It's so hard to see him on his last period before of the death. He's really changed my life. It's really really sad that he's dead damn.

  • 15 years since the world lost one of the greatest minds in recent history :( Thank you, Carl, for everything you did for humanity.

  • My deepest gratitude to the man who gave us the power to think.

Thank you Carl, we will forever miss you.

  • Carl would kick my ass, but he didn't die. In my heart while I'm around, and in memes as long as we don't go for the last variable of the Drake Equation. I miss you Bro!

  • I have such fond memories watching this. Sagey was "beautiful" to my little mind. What a diamond in the rough. Enough said. His majestic love for exploration lives on, as he would have wanted it to. Sagey, I am here......

  • Wow the right whingers even pollute a page of obituaries to one of the greatest minds we have produced in the last 2000 years with the 'global warming scam' craziness. Yes that's right your worldview is insane, loopy, whacked out and rampantly illogical. Oh and other then in Mcfailland U.S.A the right lost the culture war 20 years ago lefty socialism is the default condition everywhere else on the planet that has a real democracy.

  • he died in the same year i was born :S am i the future Carl Segan?

  • "Are we an exceptionally unlikely accident, or is the universe brimming over with intelligent life?"

    *CRUNCH*

    The world may never know.

  • In my opinion if anyone had ever deserved immortality to guide the human race it would be Carl Sagan.

  • person of the week? rofl

  • Him and Newton. The most important scientists to ever walk this planet.

  • Person of the week, what an insult.. Person of the Millennia

  • he is science AND compassion.not WAS

  • Carl Sagan, I was 9 when you passed away. I am still waiting for that glorious dawn. Where I don't wake up to a Sun rise but the Rising of th Milkyway.

  • poor fella

  • Carl Sagan lives on Kepler 22-B - he created his own Genesis and his passion for the stars is that passion that serves as the pinnacle of humanity that any man or woman should strive to achieve. Astronomy is the master science of mankind of whom Carl Sagan shall personify for eternity.

  • @DetroitLove4U "Astronomy is the master science of mankind of whom Carl Sagan shall personify for eternity." I have read many things about Carl but that is one of the best mate :). I have just bought myself a telescope after getting into Astronomy after seeing the famous 'Pale Blue Dot' video, looking at the moon in such detail, seeing Jupiter for the first time was amazing and all down to Carl Sagan, RIP as long as there are people on your Pale Blue Dot, you will never die :).

  • Died Six days before I was born... oh well

  • :25 I didn't Carl was an Arthur

  • We are on a tiny blue dot, and Carl Sagan is only a tiny fraction living on it, for a mere second in cosmic time. However, his atoms, his knowledge, his inspirations is reflected for generations to come. I vow to be as great as this man was and more.

  • this great man died on the same year that i was born :'(

  • We're missing you Carl !!! very very much !

  • abc network "A person of the week" Wtf he at least would deserve to be a man of the whole of 1996.

  • I'll name my son after you , CARL .. you will be missed :(

  • Ta midhrifs. I am introducing a new friend to Carl Sagan. I have wondered how best to do it and turned to the Tube. This is a eulogy that befits his aims. Midhrifs ta.

  • I feel sad that what maybe one of the greatest men to ever be born on this planet died in the same month i was born.

  • He'd be so saddened by today's scientific discoveries... since not even 1% of the federal budget goes to research for NASA... :(

  • @SmoshFan8123 True, but I thing he'd be saddened for mostly the wrong reasons. Sagan was politically a leftist loon. While he cared a lot about science, he cared more about peddling socialist scams. If he were still alive, I suspect he'd be one of the reasons NASA funding is so low. People don't get excited about funding NASA because NASA has been supporting pseudoscience quackery like the global warming hoax, pandering for tax dollars.

  • @wrjamescom Thats sad but true..by allowing lefty socialist propaganda to cloud his scientific reasoning he actually hurt the cause of science and NASA. NASA is not nearly the institution it was. Carl could have done so much more to help science if he could have only kept politics out of science. Its a shame other wise he was a great teacher and inspiration.

  • @DK0526 Yep. His contributions to science education cannot be disputed. But I wouldn't want someone like him teaching science to my kids because he pollutes the science with political pandering. And there was no reason for it. It tainted an otherwise remarkable and respectable career.

  • @SmoshFan8123 why find cool shit in space when we can just find new ways to blow and shoot each other up

  • @SmoshFan8123 that's why they rely on the black budget

  • @SmoshFan8123 Well, I think he'd be thrilled about the new scientific discoveries, but he'd be absolutely enraged at the NASA budget and now the discontinuation of the ISS and Shuttle Missions.

  • Such a sad video. There will never be another like him. ;(

  • one of the most amazing persons to ever walk the Earth.

    A genius for the ages.

  • It would be so wonderful if he could still be here and see all the exoplanets we have discovered. Just this week they have shown with very high probability that Europa has an underground lake. It's too bad he could be here to see these things come about

  • i was 10 years old when our lord carl sagan died even though i was young i knew he was the one

  • My left ear felt the same way. Oh no I had the earpieces in the wrong way!

  • My right ear loved listening to this homage.

  • When we finally send people to Mars, the ship that carries them there should be called: "The Carl Sagan". I think he'd like that.

  • I may have not known who you were until after you had died, but I, a 17 year old teenager have been inspired by all of your work and you have truly taught me that ignorance is my greatest enemy, thank you carl sagan, thank you.

  • @1mmarti The world is a much better place for having had him at all.

  • @boxesbeforebuddha Yes, along with Christopher Hitchens.

  • We miss you Mr. Sagan. Happy 77th birthday.

  • on this your 77th birthday, you are missed more than ever. perhaps NASA would still be funded if you were here to continue inspiring children.

  • One of the most beautiful minds. The light you reflected when you were alive still traveling the cosmos.

  • Happy birthday to one of the most brilliant minds earth has ever seen

  • Happy birthday, Carl. We miss you.

  • Happy Birthday!

  • Happy Birthday, Carl.

  • Happy birthday, Carl Sagan.

  • This is where we make our stand.

  • I'm crying now

  • Thanks for loading this. Gotta to have passion. Science is passion : )

  • Fucking Person of the week.....

  • I would give alot to just beable to thank him in person and shake his hand. :( SOOOO FUCKING UNFAIR!!!!! Carl dies in his 60s and this hugh heffner wanker lives into his 80s :@ GOD DAMMIT!

  • Two things come up for me when I watch this:

    1) Man I miss that guy.

    2) 15 years ago, the mainstream media didn't used to be so hollow and corrupt.

  • Of the week? That's insulting.

  • Person of my lifetime! Thank you Carl and may you R.I.P. amongst the cosmos!

  • R.I.P.

  • A GREAT MAN ... humanist & Speaker.

  • He would be so sad knowing that their are no more shuttles going into space :(

  • CARL SAGAN: "Much more of our free time should be spent with things that are intellectually valuable - reading, solving problems, thinking critically. I'm not saying people should stop watching TV, but a lot less wouldn't hurt. Brain Building by Marilyn vos Savant and other books like it do a good job of laying out all the ways education and intelligence can help us and, more importantly, how to foster intellectual growth. There are so many wonders that knowledge and the intellect can bring us."

  • The world lost a truly gifted and optimistic man that day....he was my biggest inspiration growing up and still is....may he RIP among the stars....

  • Rest in eternal peace, Dr. Sagan, wherever you may be.

  • Amazing, 15 years ago there were american news presenters who showed respect and even passion for science. Now we have people like Bill O'Reilly, how sad.

  • I think Sagan was from the future, sent back to make sure we stay on a peaceful track.

  • Miss him

  • Is it just me or is the sound only on the right speaker?

Which kinda sucks cause I got a hearing deficiency on that side, so I only see pictures. Still a great person, a scientist able to actually explain to the "common" people, for that he deserves respect.

  • Would have loved to be one of his students.

  • @MrShortfastloud When I was in high school, I wanted to go to Cornell and be one of his students as well. No one in my one-horse town had any idea who I was talking about...The world is a far worse place for having lost one of the great minds of our time...

  • @MrShortfastloud I could say that about toooo many dead people :(

  • @MrShortfastloud I hope I don't sound too sappy, but one of the most beautiful things about this man, his career, and his legacy; is that we both were. His books, and his television show(s) were so elegant, and communicated so magnificently, that I don't hesitate for a second in describing Carl as one of my teachers.

  • @MrShortfastloud We were all his students when I watched his show as a kid

  • Carl for prez! Only problem is that he would not accept. Cosmos is the most moving entertainment ever produced ...and this is from a practicing Catholic.

  • person the weak the person of the earth

  • We have also arranged things so that almost no one understands science and technology. This is a prescription for disaster. We might get away with it for a while, but sooner or later this combustible mixture of ignorance and power is going to blow up in our faces. - Carl Sagan

  • Now, done of his crude matter, what luminous form might he reclaim.

dammit, why'd he have to die? We can't just know things, we need to wonder.. and now..

  • Imagine if he were alive today. I'd vote for him as president in a heartbeat.

  • star dust to star dust

  • I was always glued to the TV as a child when Carl Sagan was speaking. He was a great Scientist and teacher.

  • HES NOT DEAD, like he once repeated, "to live within the hearts of those you leave behind is to never die".... obviously he lives within many people's thoughts and hearts, i know he is in mine, so he lives in millions of us who follow his teachings

  • i was only on the same planet as this man for 73 days

    ..damn

  • The day Carl Sagan died, nothing happened. When Jesus died, nothing special happened. When Buddha died nothing happened. How many great prophets of humanity have to die without humanity changing its behavior?

  • @diegodann check out Bill Hicks saying the same thing.. /watch?v=iMUiwTubYu0

  • Rest well Dr. Sagan, we all miss you.

  • @KreatorRage

hahaha hey hey relax kiddo dont get so worked up, looks like someone is a bit angry

my life is actually really good, your could be too if you wouldnt get so angry over things

    chill dude

  • @ :25 the newscaster said "arthur" not "author" god that bugs me.

  • "Celebrity astronomer" indeed. He was not so notable as a scientist, but as an influential popular figure and as consequential author he will be remembered.

I still wonder how widely known he would have become without his hugely successful PBS series. By speaking slowly over an amazing Vangelis soundtrack he introduced a mass audience of the semi-literate to a comprehensive cartoon version of cosmology that was able to hold viewers interest from episode to episode. Fame is made of such.

  • Who said he died? you guys are dead wrong! He's Alive! in our brains! Carl will never die!

  • great human

  • yes he is returned to cosmos and he is person of the milennia

  • I only found out about Carl after he died. He has taught me so much since then but I wish I knew him when he was alive =(

  • Person of the Week? FUCK U, PERSON OF THE MILENNIA.

  • @hotwirm to hotwirm,no fuck you you athropoid,

  • @hotwirm,i guess you got your,PHD,AND MASTERS DEGREE,AND TWO BACHELOR'S DEGREES,YOU IDIOT,

  • @hotwirm I would give it to Isaac Newton, or maybe Einstein, but Carl comes pretty close.

  • @CupofPhenol Man of the Universe.

  • @CupofPhenol Einstein? Pleaassse.... Newton is the founding father of modern physics.

  • @TheSteady0 Modern hoax rather then science. This is already well known fact.

  • @wlodzio47 What is hoax? Newtonian physics?

  • @TheSteady0 Gravity doesn't exist . Universe is electromagnetic,

Light doesn't travel as Einstein claim. Light is the only steady thing in the Universe.

Our solar system is Heliohelixical not like Catholic military priest claim Heliocentric.

  • @wlodzio47 Oh yea, because you say so? You got any proof whatsoever to back up your pseudoscience? And I don't want any crazy conspiracy crap like how the government is trying to feed us the false information because they're aliens wanting to take over the Earth.....

Also, so you reject the notion of mass? Or is it all "hoax" to you too?

  • @TheSteady0 You ask the question and in same time you answer to yourself. Even your hero Einstein said "Ignorance is the highest state of stupidity".

And yes you are ignorant and impolite.

  • @wlodzio47 Still waiting.......

  • Puff puff pass man:'(

  • Our friend returned to the cosmos, RIP.

  • Over a decade later and you are still inspiring us. You made this world a better place and still give us hope for a better tomorrow.

  • Just got into you man. you are all around us anyway. Much love.

  • carl sagan you have gave me hope and belief in human life, you were a beautiful man and shall never be forgotten RIP <3 xx

  • oh my god, thats the last thing i expected to be in the comments.

was HATE, but what else is new. you people are fucking sick.

seriously. with or without a god. PATHETIC.

if you arogant fucks really did believe in your nazi god

you wouldnt say shit like that, you'd have compassion for ALL human kind.

but your a fake just like everyone else in the world.

find something real foryourself for a change people.

stop believing only what your told to beleive.

    RIP CARL SAGAN. GOOD MAN.

    GENIUS

  • @joshcky0113 respect

  • @TheAmericanDefender What the fuck? Burn in hell.

  • @TheAmericanDefender That's exactly what he talked about. The hate you religious people feel against all others who think differently. I'm so happy to be agnostic, and to not believe in a God that hates. And because of that, I can freely say: FUCK YOU. Carl Sagan was a MUCH better person than what you are.

  • @6471917 "The hate you religious people feel against all others who think differently." I've never seen such ignorance and arrogance in the same place. I'm a full believing Christian and I think Carl Sagan was amazing. Your line of thinking is the issue. The problem is people who generalize and dismiss anything that doesn't align with them. Like you dismissing, as you put it "religious people", as hate mongers hell bent on hiding the truth. Such generalizations breeds hatred and causes wars.Stop

  • @ItCameFromTheSkyBeLo You are right, and I am sorry. I apologize for generalizing religions as bad, and thank you for making me see my mistake. I think we both agree when I say that haters exist in all religions and lines of thinking (including me, I hate sometimes). Then again, we are all human. Sadly, evil is global. Again I apologize, I did not mean to say all religious people are bad or hate.

  • @TheAmericanDefender

    Bad troll... is bad.

  • @TheAmericanDefender lol keep trolling

  • @TheAmericanDefender You are only a stupid and idiot person who never used your mind by yourself!! Do you know what a book is? No a shit that you call bible. A real book!!! Idiot!

  • @rogeriomg20 Atheists are so stupid they can't even think for themselves or use logic and reason

  • @TheAmericanDefender

Actually that is all we can do.. atheist by definition is merely a person who rejects your brain washed ( or brain fucked) moronic childish stupid irrational illogical unreasonable inhumane pseudo moral or simply - idiotic belief.

So atheists used their own head to reject that, by applying logic and reason.

Your argument couldn't be more invalid Mr. God's Fan Club muppet.

    Have a nice day.

  • @realbojay Wrong. Atheists believe in stupid fairytales. They do not use logic or reason and they are brainwashed out the fucking ass.

  • @TheAmericanDefender

    lol FAIL

  • @TheAmericanDefender How can you say that "think for themselves or use logic and reason'?? kkkkkkk Christians are the most stupid. They guide their lives for a liar and full of errors book. This book was written 2000 years ago by ignorant and bigoted pastors. Christians think that they are the best people in the world. They judge others based entirely on this book and they think they will go to hell if they don't do this way. God = Santa Claus for Adult

  • @TheAmericanDefender your pathetic.

  • @joshcky0113 You're*

  • @joshcky0113 You're*
