I love Varg Vikernes and his music, but he said nobody in the Norwegian Black Metal scene at the time listened to Venom. Doesn't this song prove him wrong? Regardless this song kicks ass.

If by stage appearance (excluding corpsepaint, look at Mayhem now, I did last Friday :P) and lyrics, then Venom is black metal but so is Mercyful Fate. If by sound, then Venom is thrash metal (not black | one of the best ones) and Bathory is the first band to go with. And this isn't about "getting my shit right", this has been a debate for a fucking long time!

If by stage appearance (excluding corpsepaint, look at Mayhem now, I did last Friday :P) and lyrics, then Venom is black metal but so is Mercyful Fate. If by sound, then Venom is thrash metal (not black | one of the best ones) and Bathory is the first band to go with. And this isn't about "getting my shit right", this has been a debate for a fucking long time!

@papan1990 depends on the band I guess,,,,,Black metal is really trying to sound as evil as possible and rebbelling against the Christian faith....Like mayhem here, their guitars and bass were always so distorted and gave it that gutted almost scratching noise and wrote some fucked up lyrics so in my opinion this is the most bad ass black metal band ever....Death Metal on the other hand is usually very fast and intense for instance the Black Dahlia Murder is melodic death metal. @munruthel1 Venom is more influential, they were First-Wave Black Metal, but Mayhem is Second-Wave Black Metal which basically gave modern Black Metal their sound... but I also heard that they got their sound from Sodom.
