Did E. abdicate and fake his roll and position himself to mitigate harsh subjugation of England in future? The King abdicated thinking nothing of the consequences he would leave behind himself. He truly believed he would have his cake and eat it to. Even during the War he proved himself irresponsible. After the war he continued the playboy lifestyle to which he loved most. It turned out to be the best thing he ever done. George VI was the gift left to us all. George VI proved himself to be a true King. For this I am grateful to King Edward VIII.

I think that was a very brave thing to do to give it all up for the woman he loved then never to have any contact with his family ever again and living in exile is a very sad thing to do. Love is strong more powerful than the throne of England.
