@mattmaid Yes brethren wondering if you know di name of di first song by Josey if you do can you send it to me iv'e been searching for it and can't find it?
Yea tha new stuff garbage If anyones just getting in to 70's - 80's dancehall the best DJ's are Captain Sinbad , Yellowman / Purpleman / King Mellow Yellow... , Billy Boyo , Big Joe , Ranking Joe / Little Joe , Toyan , Ranking Slackness / General Echo , Ranking Dread , Papa Tullo , Nigger Kojak , Clint Eastwood and the best of all Lee van Cleef / Lee Van Cliff
This is pure classic dancehall. This is how dance must run!!! Dem ting nowadays - Kartel, movado, a bere fuckrey. Dem new bwoy need fi go back a school.
Can someone translate, "Me no want no pretty gal, cause the pretty gal them are ______", love that King Yellow Sound. Skateland is such a treasure to have on video/audio!
I think the old artists are to be blamed,,,they didn't keep the creativeness going on. Like the sound Gregory Isaacs brought when he did Rumors and Ragga Muffin seemed to seal the fate of his creativeness.
The biggest loss to reggae music was the break up of Black Uhuru. Sly and Robbie's golden years were over
I remember in the 80's I used to go to a club in London, England called "People's Club" I remember when the Dj wheels the vinyl the place would jump. That to me was dancehall. I dont know if we became over saturated with reggae that most the new stuff is junk or IT IS JUNK
This is not 70's...look at the fashion and hairstyles - closer to 80's than 70's...also, young Josey Wales DJ-ing "Gateman" - that was 1983 yute...not 70's...who disagree?
You can see 12:30, 15:18 and beyond on this video that the 'Grinding Dancing" didn't start with Regetton in the late 80's in PR as some claim.
The Grinding Dance was already done by Africans and Caribbean Blacks before Regetton Style named it in Puerto Rico as El Perreo in Spanish. That is just the name in Spanish for it.
this is real dancehall not like the garbage you heard nowadays. it had more riddim, more fun, rather than the noise and the violence. too bad the younger generation never experience this in real life. hope they will be inspire by real dancehall.
im not saying it is violent. the message of shooting an artist or anyone or beating somebody is sometime there. you look at the wannabee gansta out there who takes everyword literally.
@reggaeicon1 looord i'm 20 still a young man, however, the only dancehall i want is '78 - '89. fuck all that new shit, it's the same thing that happened to hiphop...
early footage with Josey looks like late 70's but the dance a skateland is about 81, 82 based on the ridim from Yello and Josey and the whole heep a shat weh a lick ina the back ground from the all a the gun dem weh cum a yard ina 1980...ask mi how mi know.
This is definitely not the 1970s. Those lyrics, the style of delivery, and the rhythms mark this video as being made between 1980 to 1983 despite what the copy right says at the end.
this is '82-83 at least, pre-dancehall - a Volcano session at Skateland in Kingston (Half Way Tree) with Josey Wales, Toyan, Yellow and other Junjo Lawes alumni, right about at his peak as a producer.
"The Answer" dubplate at 26:08 is rocking, and Yellowman kills over it....
Does anyone kno the exact year this took place. Their style is extremely old but even with that at least they are more creative. Even better this is authentic Jamaican music. No R&B, rap, disco, influence, just pure Jamaican influence.
the track at the begginin is sick. its that barrington levy version of robber man( prison oval rock lp), and yes ya right about radics, junjo, channel one, and ya cant forget the mighty scientist at the controls. wicked!!
its ok i found it. Riddem is called the take five riddim heres the cuts on the riddem over the years. Al Campbell Bad Boy Barry Brown Shoot Up Clarence Parks Gun Man Don Carlos Mr. Big Man Simple Simon Revolution Fighters Sugar Minott Have You Ever Found A Love Welton Irie Put It Down Willie Williams Jah Righteuous Reign
this is huuuuggggeeeee !!! where can i find this version of have you ever been in love from D.brown ( maybe it's i'm not crazy) I want this version it's too heavy please help
This is the 80's! I initially thought it was late 70's but upon further research; it is almost impossible for this recording in this format and quality to have happened in the 70's. If it were the 70's we would be looking at different people maybe Dillinger or Big Youth but even then the venue probably would have looked more like a traditional concert with one person at a time on a stage with a backing band. This is early mid 80's
damnn !! where can i find the version of the riddim playing at 25 min. I think it is the "have you ever been " riddim or maybe the "i'm not crazy" can someone help ? amaaaazzzzzzing video anyway.

Just because the copyrights states 1986 does not mean it was made that date. Copyright and date created are two different things.
Jah77forever 2 years ago
Indeed. Ideally Creation date and Copyight should tie in together but they usually don't. Hence why so many 'rights' are 'stolen'.
