@1997FordProbeGT I can't remember since it's been a while, but I imagine I shifted at redline for all shifts, or the later shifts might have occurred 500rpm before redline.
Edelbrock (the aftermarket performance parts manufacturer) makes a Short Throw Shifter (STS) for the Honda Civic, and I think the years are '88-00 if I'm not mistaken. Since STSs for Probes are a fair amount more expensive than Civic ones, the Probe community tried using a Civic one instead and it fits like a charm.
I think with what you have there, you'll be pretty close to $500. If there's some breathing room, I would add a short throw shifter, not so much for performance, but more for improving the quality of driving the car. It's so night and day, it's not even funny. Save some bucks and buy a Honda Civic shifter ('88-2000) from Ebay. Virtually the same as the Probe ones available, but far cheaper, and installs just the same.
Hotshot as a brand no longer exists, as I think they went bust after the knockoff designs of their products ate up their customer base. First, understand what Hotshot headers look like (main characteristic: short primaries), then search for that style on Ebay. Virtually the same design as the actual Hotshots, close to as good build quality, hundreds of dollars less in value.
Some things could have been purchased used to keep costs down, but: CAI $50, flywheel $200, clutch $600 (w install), testpipe $70, borla $800, STS $100, headers $300, mounts $200, IM $250, tokico struts/springs $800, chip $75, TB $200. So roughly $3650, not including some labour that I couldn't do myself (other than above noted clutch value)
If all you have is a stock MX3 Flywheel in there they weigh 20 lbs. the probes stock fly wheel is 17 lbs.and both are allot cheaper then 200 correct me if im wrong
MX3 Flywheels weigh 5-7 pounds less than a Probe flywheel, hence the whole reason of putting one in there. Also, at the time of purchase, MX3 flywheels were not common, especially in Canada.
1. Autozone says that the MX6 and Probe have 17lb flywheels(2.5L V6), while the MX3 (1.8L V6) hasa 20lb flywheel. Why the hell would a smaller engine need a heavier flywheel? That's beyond dense and shows the credibility of Autozone (no fault on your part).
2. Probetalk states in their "what should I do next?" thread that the Probe flywheel is 23lbs, while the MX3 flywheel is 16-17 lbs. This is widely supported, and a reason why people swap out the Probe/MX6 flywheel for the MX3 one.
Tats a Good Question. you see what i'm saying though??? thats messed up well see if you can find out whats real and i will do the same. Here is something else to think about the probe calls for a slightly bigger in diameter Clutch Disc then the mx3 Because i tryed to use my mx3 clutch kit warranty on my probe (which i did swapping the to clutch kits because i had to pull some strings) dont know exact specs and dont feel like looking them up. anyways would a probe disc line up to a mx3's flywheel
The real deal is that the Probe/MX6 flywheel is heavier than the MX3 one. If you know anything about flywheels and their purpose, it would make sense that the MX3 one would be at least the same, but most likely less in weight than the Probe/MX6 flywheel. I've driven my car before and after install, and I've been in another Probe with the Probe flywheel, and I can tell you for 100% sure the MX3 one is lighter and better. And yes, a Probe clutch disc will work with an MX3 flywheel.
A flywheel is connected to the end of the crankshaft, and acts as a weight to smooth out the pulses and also determines momentum (disconnected from the driveline) as the engine spools up and down. So basically, when you press the gas and get off of it, the engine revs faster with less weight if you have a lighter flywheel. More weight, slower revs. The opposite is true, get off the gas, revs fall faster than a heavier flywheel.
craiger, would you advice the ZE IM on a DE (with portmatched spacers and chip)? Or did you really notice a drop in tq down low? I'm asking you this since there's so much going on over at Probetalk at the moment concerning the ZE IM.
Well to be honest, I have a ZE IM on a non-portmatched DE head, and the chip. If there is a drop in torque down low, it's negligible, or at least pales in comparison to the difference in top end power. I haven't noticed any difference driving the car around town. Maybe that's because of the MX3 flywheel, I can't be sure. But it's certainly nothing to make-or-break your buying decision.
i would go with whatever header sounds better to you. worst case scenario, they can always be bent or recreated by a machine shop to get them into place (notably the Pacesetters). as for exhaust, i love my Borla, and i have no interest in getting rid of it.

I think this header sounds alot better than the pacesetter header that you have a vid of.

I really dont see how you can feel the difference do you like feel it through clutch pedal or like through performance or what but anyways: ok
