  • wow that was deep.

  • What is a good way to train so i can hold my breath longer on deeper dives? or just holding your breath for a long time underwater

  • @bigbuggas you need to do things such as meditation to completly relax your body when underwater and simply practice getting into a perfectly relaxed zone.

  • Man... i heared you balancing the pressure in your ears :)))

    insane...

  • I love it!

  • But I have to add that I love this video. So much respect for what you do. I wish I had money to visit Hawaii. Beautiful waters.

  • Cool video, but you state "those who require bottled air (scuba) to explore those depths." as if they wouldn't be able to freedive like you: that is obviously not necessarily true. They just like to stay underwater; or they dived at greater depths to begin with. Just sayin', it sounded a bit cocky.

    thumbed up anyway!

  • i dont understand how you can hold your breath that long i would pass out

  • Hahahha that was a really coool video thanks for posting , and good to see you havung fun and enjoying your dive , in this video all the scuba seem like workers and your out t

  • you couldnt here it... but he said "oh shit"

  • i hope these scuba-diver don't have spear-gun :p

  • wow

  • It only sucks if you are not able to freedive like that! @blessum: Keep up the good stuff, I enjoy your videos very much! Wish we could freedive like that here in Germany!

  • You sir, are a legend!

  • 2:52 Honk!

  • Although i enjoy your tricks played on the scuba guys but nevertheless i consider them to be dangerous. if one of the scuba divers gets really scared and inhales water it could become a very ugly situation.

but to be honest sometimes i feel tempted to do the same.

  • im running out of breath watching this!

  • Cool! But you had to go up while "the bubblers" enjoyed themselves down there :)

  • Awsome freediving my friend..! You may be deaf , but hearing is not a great asset needed in experiencing our beautiful underwater world. You are a great inspiration to us all....!

  • You might be deaf, but you sure ain't dumb..!! Great video, technique and relaxation strategies my friend..

  • AWESOME!!!

  • Are you using the flatlens replacement on your GoPro ?

  • Awesome video dude, love seeing people so comfortable in the water. Me and my friend went on a free diving trip in Asia last year, and at one of the resorts some overweight 50yo mid life crisis scuba divers gave us shit - we just dropped down to their 20m's on their leaner dives, checked their air pressure gauges, and told their instructor to take them up haha. Best trick ever :p

  • Great video. I hope to meet you one day when I'm out making bubbles. Too many people take scuba and freediving too serious, why not relax and have fun?!

  • im 12 and i can hold my breathe as long as you because im a free diver as well but my maximum depth it 45ft. I know how to pop my ears to equalize the pressure but i can fight the headache once i break the 45feet mark any tips

  • Haha I love the one where you dive through the wreck and he screams :D I do scuba diving myself and omg that'd probably have scared the heck out of me too, just nothing you'd expect.

  • I like people with sense of humor :)

  • oh, i finished your video.... born deaf? Although most people might see this at a lose, you get to enjoy something (the ocean) that most people never get to enjoy to your extent! that's awesome! btw....epic last trick....i will tell you that you could definitely hear their yelps! hahaha

  • I read your comment about the surgery? What exactly does that do to you/can you still hear & balance?

  • @MRjAvellaneda Removing the ear canals and ear drums eliminates the weakest points in the human ear when dealing with extreme pressure changes. I no longer need to worry about rupturing my ear drums again, and ear infections. No, I cannot hear anything at all anymore but it was not a great loss as I could only barely hear before the surgery (born profoundly deaf). I still have my balance and still do need to clear my ears but less frequently.

  • @blessumm therefore it is a lot easier for you to dive to extreme depths! that's pretty sic! I have a personal interest in amateur free-diving, although i've only gone to depths of 6-8 meters. the ocean around Seattle is frigid so i've only gone once or twice....but I grew up in the water- rivers, oceans, lakes, and pools! hope to enjoy it more when i move to Hawaii in a half week!

any tips you could personally recommend to increase lung capacity?

  • how do u hold ur breath so long

  • What kind of training do you do, and how often. Do you practice yoga, cardio when not diving? You sure are very comfortable in the water.

I'm a freediver also but now in my fifties and just dive mostly in the summertime down the south shore of oahu when the surf is dow, any training tips for me?

  • @LovingLifewithWife

I race in triathlons, run marathons, lift weights, and do some occasional pool training. Those activities probably only contribute to about 10-20% of my breath holding ability though. Like you pointed out, I look comfortable in the water. That's the key thing - It's pretty much all mental.

  • i would not want to go against you in a 'hold your breath competition!!!' lol

  • What kind of watch are you wearing?

  • legend! I really wanna start free diving...gotta be a good reason to quit smoking! (other than the obvious lol)

  • You got mad skills and it's an awesome video. Ty for good laugh and inspiration ;-)

  • Ah..... poor scuba divers. They were tricked XD

  • How do you like that Riffe wetsuit?

  • as a bubbler free divers just amaze me and i respect them for being able to hold their breath like that

  • cool wish i could hold my breth 4 as long as u guys im working on it any tps?

  • @LORDPUFFDADDY

Main tip: TTake a freediver course. Easiest way to improve your breath hold quickly. A luxury that I could not take to my deafness.

  • @blessumm How much are freediving courses, and what age do you have to be?

  • @LORDPUFFDADDY Learn to relax everything, think of nothing & lower your heart rate to around 40 bpm. You have to be comfortable at the depth you are diving.....then slowly extend your ability.

  • Your a idiot i am a diver and i have been to 123 feet with fins mask snorkle and a skin only but i like to scuba dive to stay down for a while not to just go down their for 4 min

  • I did this in Honduras right after I learned to free dive well. I had a blast acting like I was out of breath...all the divers handing me their seconds....and then I refused...and went inside the wreck and went out on the other side...they didn't know where I went or what happened to me!!

  • LOL @2:40

  • PIMP!!! i would take a pony with me though :)

  • where is this wreck?

  • Excellent videos. You make me miss freediving. About to take first SCUBA dive in two days on the big island. I used to pull your trick #4 in a freshwater spring, where I could traverse through a short but very narrow cave and come out where a bubbler would not expect it. I don't understand trick #2 though... explain please? :-)

  • The "head shake" @ around 2:15.....priceless lol....(and I'm a "bubbler")

  • I'm going to start learning both, to see which one i prefer, btw I can DNF 50 metres and hold my breath for 3-4 minutes already, i've been teaching myself, and i even do 25-30 metres backstroke, and I can do the stuff without legs or arms for 40-50 metres each as well..no fin swimming yet, please answer, I am very curious as to how one dives recreationally as opposed to scuba-ing recreationally..I am not referring or asking about the bubbing or noise/freedom elements..quesiton posted in oth post

  • Hey, I had an important question from the viewpoint of freediving recreationally. If you go down, unlike a scuba diver, you have to keep coming up for air every 2/3/4 minutes or so, so my questions/s are, how long are you up for before you can go down again and how many times cna you do that?

Unlike a scuba you have to go in and out, so the trip isn't seamless, but yeah, it's less bubbly, but I am curious how a session of freediving 100 feet and going up and down/in and out every time works

  • does freediving screw up your hearing? I know it can sure hurt my ears :(

  • @xPowerofwillx you have to equalize air pressure on your ears, yawning, holding your nose and blowing...) every time your ears start to hurt or feel pressurized, if you don't it probably will. If it still hurts, you should go to a doctor. (or search online) good luck..

  • what brand of wet suit do you have? I cant seem to find many that are open cell.

  • I scuba dive, I just got certified. but then again, I'm only 15 and I suck at free diving. I believe that they are two different experiences. free diving you get to swim down, you get the adrenaline rush and then you feel calm. I like Scuba Diving because you get to go down, and experience the underwater world for long periods of time.

  • @kingmiller30 When you freedive you live a quiet trip with the sea and with yourself. You get lost on your thoughts and you get emotions that you don't get with scuba. Plus you can make fun of those scubadivers

  • @ch1ghit4 you can get the same experiences Scuba Diving and Free Diving.

  • pulled the Who-me ? shoulder tap off today in Grand Cayman in spectacular fashion cheers for the inspiration - really good vid, shown it to as many friends as possible :)

  • Wow! Is there any kind of exercises you can do to be able to hold your breath longer?

  • Awesome video!!! Wich brand is your camera???????

  • haha bubblers. i like that one. we surf too me and my other friend who freedives. damn flail-goons. they look so awkward in the water.anyways, awesome video. keep it up!

  • Are you a Wizard?

  • That is very impressive. How long can you hold your breath??

  • @agent88afk

    A few minutes, yeah? :-)

  • Mate, i honestly hope you could hear yourself equalizing on the last part of the video. It really sounds like something is whistling in there! hehehe

Excellent work mate. very nice skills. You may have lost one of your senses but truly you seem to be at your best when submerged.

  • @Menegroth1

I whistle? Damn, I always wanted to learn how to whistle and it turns out I was already doing it?!? :-) I actually had a surgery done about 2 years ago to remove my ear drums and seal up my ear canals for good. I didn't need what little hearing I had, and I was tired of blowing out my ear drums while equalizing, or bursting it while big-wave surfing. So this whistling thing is rather odd... :-/

  • @blessumm blowing out your ear drums while equalizing? You're supposed to equalize every 2-3 feet.

  • @blessumm Soooooo are you def? im exteremly new to this... i practice in my community pool :/

  • @blessumm wait so if i understood what you wrote, then you dont have to eaqualize?

  • Nice tricks on "bubblers" and very good skills :).

    Bubblers hahaha

  • Man you are awesome ! ;D Freediving is really better, thera are more freedom !

  • 3:52 "OOOOoooh Shit"..... Great prank man!

  • nice lungs bro!! and excelent video! xD! :D!

  • Where is this dive spot?

  • hahaha listen to him equalizing at 3:04 and 3:12

  • I have just ordered one with the flat lens! do you have the flat lens to

  • What camera are you using bro?? the quality is incredible !

  • @aaron8314 go pro hero HD

  • Dude that's awesome your diving videos! How'd you get started in free diving?

  • sick

  • Freediver going into wreck?

Have your fun - it ain't going to last.

  • hahaha wow didnt know that another person did that to. i live in cali and mess with the divers that are getting the schooling done with instructors. sometimes when there not paying attention ill glide under them looking up at them, i got one to scream to

  • Cool Video man.

  • are you rely deaf

  • @almostalways803 Yep, why?

  • @blessumm dose being deaf affect equalizing

  • @blessumm I don't want to sound insulting or stupid but have you never heard any sound? ever? Your obviously used to it, i couldn't imagine what it must be like.

Anyway i'm a diver too and thanks for the weight tip. i only use 6kg.

  • @outerpol I used to have around 100db hearing loss which means I used to be able to hear jets taking off if I was nearby, cars without mufflers driving by or my guns when hunting or at the shooting range. Ever since last year when I had my middle ear removed to make diving more simple for me, I have not been able to hear anything at all. I don't really notice it. The only challenge is that I have to visually check on my newborn triplets very often to make sure one of them is not crying.

  • @blessumm LOL, now that would be a funny prank. Walk into a shooting range without ear protection and watch the astonished looks on peoples face. One of my dive buddies is deaf so I learned sign language ( who needs an underwater comunication mask?) we can talk as well underwater as most people on dry land. Did the surgery eliminate the need to manually equalize?

  • @blessumm I admire you and admire ur skills and ur strong heart..and above all ur videos, God Bless you and keep u in good health... Ur fellow freediver..

  • i love your work guys, im a bubbler and freediver. this has given me some ideas for when i go to vanuatu next year.. thanks

  • i really admire your work here man... how do you control your buoyancy if your holding your full breath im assuming? and also how do you last that long underwater... im truly amazed... im just a regular bubble blower but i do feel free-er underwater without all that equipment. plz plz plz teach me...

  • @RALYur3k I do need to kick hard for the first few dozen feet, but it gets easy after that once my lungs become compressed due to the water pressure at these depths. Most free divers don't go deep enough to figure this out. Once I'm past 60 or so feet, I start sinking and usually stop kicking. I put up a video about this called "FreeDiving With No Weights Clip.wmv" - Youtube won't let me post the link in this comment for some reason. Enjoy!

  • cut the anchor rope

  • i love freediving but i dont have many deep places to dive :(. i live near a natural spring tho thats bout twnty feet deep and pumps out about 68 degrees F water. beautiful and cold!! but sadly no scuba divers to prank.

  • Aaaawesome Vid!

  • best thing I've seen in ages, bar my reflection........

  • Awesome videos! You make me miss Oahu and almost, make me want to abandon my bubbles...almost :P

  • I've seen quite a few of your videos since getting my HD Hero and wondered a few times why you didn't add music to your videos as it would add an artistic element. It wasn't until seeing this video that I found out you were deaf, and it makes sense. Anyway, at least you were able to have your ears fixed so you could enjoy what you love without sacrafice to your hearing. I admire your abilities and thoroughly enjoy your videos, with or without music.

  • hahahahaha that is the way to teach them hahahahaha

  • lawl

  • I love it !!! Im scuba zombie and already grand daddy. However, early this year started to learn free diving... hahaaa.. and now I love to catch tourist scuba divers at depths they dont expect to see a fat old man. (cant wait to try that tap the shoulder *oh, was not me* trick). My favorite is to look serious author while asking them using hand signs that how much they have air left (normally the dive leader does this for tourist divers every now and then).

  • I'm sorry I don't know anything about this, but do you use weights here? and what are you doing when you press on your nose or something going down? I would love to be able to do this! Looks incredible!

  • @F8H I rarely use weights because I don't have much fat, and because I'm trying to set an example for all the other divers out there who load up with too much weights and use it as a crutch to go deep rather than depending on technique. Freediving is more dangerous than most people realize (we lose a few people each year on this island alone to freediving) and using excess weights compounds the danger. The nose thing is me clearing my ears via the Frenzel Method. :-)

  • @blessumm Interesting. I can imagine it being dangerous though.

  • Paul,

You forgot the "turn off his air for a second" while he reads your slate which says "let's be dive buddies, cause now you're breath hold, just like me. . . he he". HMMMM on second thought. . .

  • @rtdean Hilarious! Seriously, that's an good idea. The slate part at least! I gotta start carrying around a slate with me anyhow. I'd love to score some photos from inside of the submarine when it comes around with all the tourists in them. "Yo! Email me some of those photos willcha?!? My email is... XXXX@XXXX.com" I might need to write it out in Japanese though... Anybody know Japanese?!?

  • @rtdean

do you have any idea how dangerous is for scuba divers to hold their breath?

  • The way i equalize most of the time is open up my jaw kind of like a yawn. it saves me from having to use my hand to close my nose. every once in a while i have to use my hands. Nice freediving, i can only go about 50 feet now.

  • @LiveCanon Not many can equalize that way sadly. A lot depends on an individual's ear physiology. I have been able to equalize by jutting out my jaw, almost as if yawning a few times, but only when I was on medication that dried out/shortened my eustachian tubes for a few days, but as soon as I came off, it stopped working and I had to go back to the Frenzel method for clearing my ears. I envy guys like you!

  • blessum i have another question. sometimes my right ear won't even pop out of the water. any ideas? my sinuses are clear. and i just learned the technique. but my left ear won't pop sometimes.

  • @Maui808SkinDiver

You most likely have some blockage issues. Typical solution is to cut out all dairy in your diet. This will reduce any mucus production which is what usually gets plugged up in the eustachian tube and causes clearing issues. If that doesn't do the trick, see an ENT doctor and get a nasal spray that clears this.

  • As a diver here is my favourite trick to play on freedivers: I totally ignore them. They have to leave in a couple of seconds anyway...

  • @azazelnor Ha! That one does work - sort of. I do typically hang down there for longer than just a couple of seconds though. ;-)

  • haha, i always mess with bubble blowers when i see them. the last trick was hilarious!

  • Great skill! Looks like you have alot of fun down there. I'll stick to making bubbles myself ;)

  • My fav trick is to go down and "play dead" where you know the bubble blowers will find you...

  • @SDlobsterman Ha! Maybe I should give that one a try! Maybe not as that would be truly frightful for a bubble maker...

  • really cool footage !

  • i really admire your videos. i love the ocean and respect what it offers for us. your freediving skills are amazing. i'm nearly a year into this sport and have improved quite a bit. but i still have problems equalizing once in awhile. i know about sinus and the occasional (snot) but once in awhile around 20ft + i have pressure in my ears. i used to be able to dive 30ft but its harder to equalize. any tips?

  • @Maui808SkinDiver

I used to have to clear my ears at only 5 feet and would break my ear drums. I then had my ear drums surgically removed and my ear canals removed/sealed up for good. I was born deaf and don't need my residual hearing anyways. Now I only need to clear every 15 feet. I use the Frenzel Technique. Google it and click on the pfi document by eric Fattah. The only problem is that I can't clear past 170' yet. I run out of air to put into my ears due to the pressure.

  • @blessumm thanks paul. i can't wait to start using this technique. took me awhile to do it correctly (at least i think i'm doing it correctly) i'll let you know if it works for me on the next dive. but might not be for awhile because my way of equalizing before was not good so i think i have a ear infection and will have to wait to dive until its healed =(

    mahalo dive safe
