  • Great performance of a great song by a great band. Others have come and gone in a blaze of glory but BSP are still making truly exciting music: Valhalla Dancehall contains some of their best material to date. Their live performances are outstanding, saw them at T in the Park and in Liquid Room Edinburgh this year and both gigs were absolutely amazing. Long live British Sea Power!

  • dude my cousin doesn't have a job, let him be our guitarist or i'm leaving

  • seriously, i swear. can anybody explain the real meaning of this song? its title.. its album's title.. the band's name.. the band's special look+sound...............

I know that i am supposed to do a personal research about it but as it would be too many stuff to read i would like to have it in a few simple words

  • @ufficioinformazioni They're from Brighton. That's the explanation

  • @alriooreo so you're sayin that brighton's people are kinda strange?

im not makin fun of anyone

  • @ufficioinformazioni yes they are kinda strange, and very beautiful. greatest city in england.

  • @alriooreo great.

once i saw a film which told brian cleogh's life... well , dude didnt want to train brighton's fc. he said : "it's france", he was obsessed on his leeds

btw, it must be a really nice town

  • RN is still the world`s second navy. We bow to USN global influence. But we had the idea and ingenuity first. We made the carrier, the global navy. We designed the tasteful uniforms, and the code. And we lost good men. RIP crews of Hood, Sheffield, Indefatible.... only one band remembered them. British Sea Power.

  • Thank you for posting this....it definitely takes the sting out of being 'merican...if only for four minutes...alas....

  • This song genuinely blows my mind. Great tune!

  • Remember watching this live on Jools several years ago and thinking what an awesome song and it just gets greater with age. Stunning tune.

  • Just fucking incredible. No debate.

  • these guys are fucking INCREDIBLE LIVE!!!

  • I clicked on this thinking it was a Parkway Drive cover..

  • One of my favorite band, Brilliant !

  • This song...!!!!

with this song i meet BSP, and it gives me chills every time I hear it, It brings me a live again ^^

and thanks of writihg "the missing part" hehe.... finally... :D

  • BEST BAND IN THE UK.

  • What a voice, it's difficult to define it.

  • Echo and the Bunnymen stage design. Nothing wrong with that.

  • One of my favourite songs ever, it holds it's own amongst classics like Radiohead, REM, Coldplay, Muse, QOTSA in my collection.

Their first album for me is still the best and takes me back to a great time in my life!

  • i feel sorry for people who dont enjoy this

  • One of the best young bands in the world today. These guys are for real. They don't sound like all the rest. Great lead singer. Reminds me of a young Richard Butler.

  • @vintagezigg: I kind of get the Butler comparison (that never occurred to me before) - but that's where it ends. As you say this lot are unique and not a bit like the 'Furs in any other respect (I like them as well though).

    Excellent vid!

  • I believe he's saying "a bitter strain for the Albion" Albion is an ancient name for England.

I would love know what he's saying for sure though.

  • Amazing.

  • I've never seen them preform any songs from Open Season

  • Obviously not been to many of their gigs, then. Seen them loads of times and they've always played stuff off "Open Season". They almost always play "Oily Stage", often play "Larsen B" and "True Adventures" at about half the gigs I've seen since OS came out.

  • Oh When this corpus christie isle became a land of ocean blue

And all across the open plains a lazy voice that shook the sun

I'll be a bitter strait for the audience

Slowly and one by one by one

I will return to haunt you with

    Peculiar piano riffs

I am the sun, I am the one

    Only 2,000 years before

I am the sun, I am the one

"But only in my dreams" he said

  • great!!!

  • @ShortRoundMcFly72

Will be a bitter strait for the Albion!

  • When this Corpus Christie isle became a land of ocean blue

Again she cried you turned my eye at the mention of formaldehyde

And in the end an august sun

And one by one we blew

Until the devil screamed in evermore

In envy of the grace we saw

  • This performance is so good.

  • no it's not

  • well.... i thin kit is. check out the lyrics:

Carry on inside of your heart

Under the brine you won't notice the dark

Can stone and steel and horses heels ever explain the way you feel

From Scapa flow to Rotherhithe, I felt the lapping of an ebbing tide

it would not make sense "Carrion inside your heart" XD

  • check the album sleeve, it's carrion.

think it's meant to a pun, as in a 'carrion' is the dead carcus of an animal.

  • carcass not carcus

  • Ah really... i checked out. sorry. :) But it's still weird.

  • What guitar is that Noble is playing?

  • It's an Epiphone Crestwood

  • Like the album version but the ending is just... incredible. Where can I find a version of this performance?

Greatest performance I've ever seen on TV? I think so.

  • seriously the end of this might be the best thing i've ever heard in music

I am the Son / I am the One / Only two thousand years before / I am the Son / I am the One / But only in my dreams she said'. And then towards the end Be-el, Be-el, Beelzebub.

  • i've wondered about that, i always thought he was just biting the strings

  • anyone know what the lead guitarist is doing when he puts his mouth to his guitar to make the whining, crying type noise? singing into his pickups? is that possible?

    x

  • I thought it was impossible, but when I saw them live it became clear that he was doing something into the pickups. It's ridiculous.

  • He is screaming into the pickups. And it is definitely possible; Isaac Brock has made it a staple of the Modest Mouse live performance.

  • i saw them at roundhouse.

best live band i've ever seen.

actually, best band i've ever heard.

  • So damn amazing.

  • Holy shit that was amazing! They are very captivating! I feel The Walkmen have a similar vibe. And maybe even Interpol.

  • I read All music guide reviews too.

  • Now that was a performance!

  • Hehe guess I'm living your dream harpist, I'll be seeing them for the 3rd time this year at LL lol... Amazing band, better than any other this decade bar maybe Arcade Fire.

  • thats pretty awesome

  • lol foliage

  • i guess this is relatively old. they're shaping up to be a genuinely great band, full of mystery and beauty, and ripe for rediscovery in years to come.

  • sooooo good

  • second that wastedlittleharpist! +1 :D

  • This is brilliant, they´re equal on stage as on the albums! I wish I lived in Great Britain, I would go to every concert they would give

  • Top tune.

  • I love this song,is there any place where the lyrics are avaible? :)

  • he kind of tangents off to some different lyrics int his performance. starts singing a little out of "The Lonely"

  • I like the organ!

  • I bet you think it's all fun and games until my favourite foremost Antarctic Ice Shelf falls on you and desalinates your barren face

  • Huxwaks It's nothing to do with time signatures or chord changes. It's to do with how the music/song makes you feel. Some of the best songs ever recorded have three chords and don't switch from 7/8 to 3/4 time between each verse and chorus to sound clever.

P.S. I don't really like this song compared to ones off the new album.

  • Valid point Doncrof. You speak the truth! However a time change from 7/8 to 3/4 would be nice every once on a while don't you think? The best bands are those who are able to make music which appeals to the masses, yet don't compromise on musicianship.

  • Radiohead writes in 4/4. Creep is three chords. I don't them because of that, I like them. Simplicity isn't a reason for not liking something. Write a song like this.

  • radiohead dont always write in 4/4

the drums are usually 4/4 with everything else doing something else and wonderful over the top like 3/4 or something

  • I love this song so much....

  • modern rock defined. take it to the bank.

  • I will be seeing you in Chicago in March. Genius!!

  • Great new album...I think your missing the point and the relevance of good music by a million miles....get a life :)

  • yea ok mate you go and mash some power chords out and swing your sweaty hair in a circle.. this is real music, its raw talent so if you don't like it, fuck off and listen to your metal.

  • Mmmm, that's why BSP are an internationally successful band and you work in a guitar shop.

Don't give up the day job.

  • You are a funny chap. In a few months BSP will be big in Japan and the States and you will be sitting in a pub moaning about your boring daytime job...

  • Hey well done mate, you knock yourself out with your Heavy Metal.

    Oh.....and get a bath.

  • I should just move to the UK they have my alot of my fav bands, Muse and british sea power, WHY MUCH I LEAVE IN OHIO!!!

  • yeah that's what i meant

  • ive seen this bad so many times live and they never fail to amaze, ive heard the new album already ands its brilliant!! Long Live BSP

  • Been a long time since I've heard un sugar coated sounding rock and this is it-just themselves and noise-no producer inspired B/S just boys bangin instruments and letting it hang out yeehaa rock lives

  • theyre awsome!! got tickets to see em in notts next year!! cant wait!!!!

  • hell yeah this song rocks!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • rock music!

  • Saw them last week in Edinburgh... its crazy you can see a band this good in a 200 person venue still!

  • this song roxxxxxxxxx..........i love this band

  • i like the bowie-face at the end

  • that ending kicked ass lol

  • Mixed in bits from the Lonely.

  • The artists of indie

  • British Sea Power write such beautiful epic songs, all their songs are just stunning. Glad someone put this Jools performance up, i have Remember Me on a Jools dvd but hadn't seen this one since the show was on tv, so thank you :-)x

  • yer your right mate, i saw them live in manchester, was quality. have you heard any songs off the new album?

  • most under rated band in the world

  • better for us mate, we can enjoy them appart of the commercial indie mainstream...

  • Hahahah muy chida rola Mr Loui...me recuerda las pedotas jajaj,

    chido cabron, cuidese...

    Saludos!!

  • There must have been more from this gig. When r u gonna post it "samovargas"?

  • They only did two songs, and that one has been posted already

  • At 3:00, Yan throws in a bit of "The Lonely." Teehee.

  • Yea this a great song and great video.

Also to Rebeca, sometimes they just sing extra stuff to drag out their songs, in a live performance they added like an extra 3 minutes to the song "lately" whihs is already a very long song. So in other words you may not be able to find what the are actually saying.

  • Epic Lyrics...although i cant find anywhere what he sings as the last verse...in this version
