I ownn a VE SSV ATM and have had 4 and 6 banger turbo's before. While i enjoyed the turbo's i got sick of constantly spending the cash on repairs, when you work an engine shit breaks continually. The 8 is a good compramise where you get a decent amount of performance with out the constant cash outlay.

If you enjoy being common, averaging 18L/100km in traffic, having sub par handling and not fussed about driving something fun then the commo is a good choice

In the end its all about how much money you put into the car, that being said though if you take it to the extreme, the majority of top fuelers, which are the fastest non-jet engine cars in the world run supercharged small blocks and they are pumping out 8 to 9 thousand horsepower or there abouts no one knows for sure coz they cant be dyno'd. The most ive ever seen out of a turbo'd inline 6 is 3 thousand. So really with all the money in the world a v8 will win hands down.

yea mate your VX is only 220kw which is Fuck all i have in my VX engine from GTS which is 300KW flywheel so dont tell me which is faster i had both i still have VX HSV and its faster all the way and its converted to Auto because car was automatic but engine is from manual so it was easier to convert engine than to get the manual gearbox
Maybe, but even so they've only been able to hold the title for five years - when the R35 came out in 2007 that spelled doom for HSV in this issue. Besides, GT-Rs have been better for more years than Holden/HSV has. It'll be a while until HSV/Holden can come up with a superior car, but by then Nissan would have released the R36 to stick it to the Commos... Again!
i dont know what makes you to think that HSV and Fords are competing with skyline i know for sure that HSv doesnt have turbo cars only Astra so i think that Nissan doesnt have any N/A car which will compete with HSV.Any way GTR is semi racing car and HSV is family sedan which runs low 13sec 1/4 to high 12s so i think they doing a good job same as Ford look at their F6 they only run 8 or 9 PSI 310kw or 420hp 565N-M and 1/4 12.7 Skyline 18psi 485hp 580N-m.F6 with 17psi runs low 11 all day
Well, you're making a rather significant point about HSVs being faster than skylines. And if you;re going to put it that way then it comes down to who has the most money to spend on their cars. Therefore a fair comparison is to race them stock - which the HSV will lose. Badly. BTW Nissan has an N/A R35 up its sleeve, the GTR LM.
I dont know where you get your stats from, but a stock BF F6 w/ 420hp runs at low 13s, according to an official test on the quarter mile. The R35 on the other hand (which came out around the same time period) does mid to high 11s. It also goes from 0-100 in 3.9 seconds, next to your F6s 5.2 and the Walrus427s 4.7. They're doing a good job? Maybe, but they still have a long ways to go if they want to call their products 'performance cars'. And the Coupe 60 was/still is a joke.
@igorristic1982 Nissan have a 370Z V6 NA. It is competative, but not really a HSV to compare it too. And what do you mean the GTR is a semi race car? How isnt HSV comparable to a GTR? GTRs have a full interior, LCDs in R34 and r35 , its a raod car. Stock Holden is like a GTS, HSV is like a GTR. The fact the GTR has a lot more going for it doesnt mean its not in the same class. Its just better.

Yeah, the old GT-Rs. Your precious HSVs are 10 or so years newer. Be realistic about it and compare them with GT-Rs that came out around the same time period, i.e. the R35 which absolutely annihilates anything with the words 'Holden' and 'HSV' on it. Notice how GT-Rs were always faster than the SAME YEAR Commodores/HSVs.
The power you can pull out of an RB26 is fucking brutal. 5.7l vs a 2.6l... Your holden got nothing. Why not race the same sized engine, holden barina 2.4l vs a nissan skyline 2.5l and see what happens.

Nice try, but you're forgetting that Skyline GTRs have about 280hp, your 'clubbies' average 350hp or more. A stock turbo GTR will send a stock 'clubby' to the bottom even though the latter has alot more power in the engine.

that why i got my self V8 cheap to modified and parts everywhere.I have raced with GTR my friends VX GTS and tell you what side by side very impressive from 10 years old engine but if you want to race turbo engine it will cost you but you can allways beet them with NA V8 you just need to spend money at the wright place and thats it not some fancy paint or some oversize rims and etc.I have vx hsv vith c4b semi race engine and i can take down on 1/4 mile run 12.4 and drive it home easy

BTW most turbo engines don't 'blow up'. For example, the RB26 on Skyline GT-Rs can be modded to 500bhp without touching the engine internals, on top of still being fairly reliable.
you can get them even more than 500hp but they wont last long like i sad i had one and i had about 400hp and that was only at 13psi and that safe but if you go over 450hp its not safe something will go wrong in next 20.000 km for sure that why all mechanics and tuner they dont want to fit the bigger turbos on stock internals because internals are not strong enough.Like i sad i have HSV vx with just over 400hp and if i do some more work i can get over 500hp but its not safe any more
@igorristic1982 , HSV's are in-efficient.. A 2000cc 4 cylinder SR20 with bolt on's makes 400hp with a stock bottom end and is reliable.. and that's safe..
That means the SR20 is making 200hp per litre... your HSV is making 70hp per litre..

@AceWombatZero I recently bought my Skyline and the guy I got it from had a friend who had a worked R34 GTR. Stock internals just new turbos, injectors and what not. The blew the motor because the PowerFC ran the engine too lean.

DEAFNR what use is a dyno queen. 420rwhp is solid indeed but the problem is there is still no bottem end grunt - no true torque. My good mate has a VEgts with cam, OTR CA, pipes, tune etc and makes 309rwkw. My other mate has an XR6T with injectors, pump, tune and 14psi for 303rwkw. We put them both in 4th gear at 2000 rpm and the Ford just walks way after another 500rpms or so - torque wins races, HP is for racers!! Grab a wipple and feel the truth!!

In the end its all about how much money you put into the car, that being said though if you take it to the extreme, the majority of top fuelers, which are the fastest non-jet engine cars in the world run supercharged small blocks and they are pumping out 8 to 9 thousand horsepower or there abouts no one knows for sure coz they cant be dyno'd. The most ive ever seen out of a turbo'd inline 6 is 3 thousand. So really with all the money in the world a v8 will win hands down.

why is it every time i race a commodore driver they always have excuses? I had a 5.7 litre VX, it was a great car, loads of space, but I got chomped by any GTR.
The only Skylines I could beat were GTS-t's.

yea mate your VX is only 220kw which is Fuck all i have in my VX engine from GTS which is 300KW flywheel so dont tell me which is faster i had both i still have VX HSV and its faster all the way and its converted to Auto because car was automatic but engine is from manual so it was easier to convert engine than to get the manual gearbox

Maybe, but even so they've only been able to hold the title for five years - when the R35 came out in 2007 that spelled doom for HSV in this issue. Besides, GT-Rs have been better for more years than Holden/HSV has. It'll be a while until HSV/Holden can come up with a superior car, but by then Nissan would have released the R36 to stick it to the Commos... Again!

i dont know what makes you to think that HSV and Fords are competing with skyline i know for sure that HSv doesnt have turbo cars only Astra so i think that Nissan doesnt have any N/A car which will compete with HSV.Any way GTR is semi racing car and HSV is family sedan which runs low 13sec 1/4 to high 12s so i think they doing a good job same as Ford look at their F6 they only run 8 or 9 PSI 310kw or 420hp 565N-M and 1/4 12.7 Skyline 18psi 485hp 580N-m.F6 with 17psi runs low 11 all day

Well, you're making a rather significant point about HSVs being faster than skylines. And if you;re going to put it that way then it comes down to who has the most money to spend on their cars. Therefore a fair comparison is to race them stock - which the HSV will lose. Badly. BTW Nissan has an N/A R35 up its sleeve, the GTR LM.

I dont know where you get your stats from, but a stock BF F6 w/ 420hp runs at low 13s, according to an official test on the quarter mile. The R35 on the other hand (which came out around the same time period) does mid to high 11s. It also goes from 0-100 in 3.9 seconds, next to your F6s 5.2 and the Walrus427s 4.7. They're doing a good job? Maybe, but they still have a long ways to go if they want to call their products 'performance cars'. And the Coupe 60 was/still is a joke.

@igorristic1982 Nissan have a 370Z V6 NA. It is competative, but not really a HSV to compare it too. And what do you mean the GTR is a semi race car? How isnt HSV comparable to a GTR? GTRs have a full interior, LCDs in R34 and r35 , its a raod car. Stock Holden is like a GTS, HSV is like a GTR. The fact the GTR has a lot more going for it doesnt mean its not in the same class. Its just better.

Yeah, the old GT-Rs. Your precious HSVs are 10 or so years newer. Be realistic about it and compare them with GT-Rs that came out around the same time period, i.e. the R35 which absolutely annihilates anything with the words 'Holden' and 'HSV' on it. Notice how GT-Rs were always faster than the SAME YEAR Commodores/HSVs.

wat r u on about... a stock clubby will beat a stock skyline... non turbo charged.... but the skylines dont go for shit without a turbo so therefore they have to have one.. its nissans fault for not making an engine any size bigger than there shitbox 2 litres which i dnt think they know how so its holden who wins again because they have the bigger engine... so comparing them together put a stock skyline (without a turbo) up against a stock clubby and the skyline has pretty much no chance at all

that why i got my self V8 cheap to modified and parts everywhere.I have raced with GTR my friends VX GTS and tell you what side by side very impressive from 10 years old engine but if you want to race turbo engine it will cost you but you can allways beet them with NA V8 you just need to spend money at the wright place and thats it not some fancy paint or some oversize rims and etc.I have vx hsv vith c4b semi race engine and i can take down on 1/4 mile run 12.4 and drive it home easy

BTW most turbo engines don't 'blow up'. For example, the RB26 on Skyline GT-Rs can be modded to 500bhp without touching the engine internals, on top of still being fairly reliable.

you can get them even more than 500hp but they wont last long like i sad i had one and i had about 400hp and that was only at 13psi and that safe but if you go over 450hp its not safe something will go wrong in next 20.000 km for sure that why all mechanics and tuner they dont want to fit the bigger turbos on stock internals because internals are not strong enough.Like i sad i have HSV vx with just over 400hp and if i do some more work i can get over 500hp but its not safe any more

@igorristic1982 , HSV's are in-efficient.. A 2000cc 4 cylinder SR20 with bolt on's makes 400hp with a stock bottom end and is reliable.. and that's safe..
That means the SR20 is making 200hp per litre... your HSV is making 70hp per litre..

DEAFNR what use is a dyno queen. 420rwhp is solid indeed but the problem is there is still no bottem end grunt - no true torque. My good mate has a VEgts with cam, OTR CA, pipes, tune etc and makes 309rwkw. My other mate has an XR6T with injectors, pump, tune and 14psi for 303rwkw. We put them both in 4th gear at 2000 rpm and the Ford just walks way after another 500rpms or so - torque wins races, HP is for racers!! Grab a wipple and feel the truth!!

too true brother.. too true.. I have once read, "the greater the number on the dyno the greater the expectation.. the lesser the number on the 1/4 mile the greater the success!!"...
