  • Actually, I was there and I thought the crowd was 'speechless' (in awe) too. It was so bad during the second cadence that the band started to resort to all kinds of tomfoolery (that we agreed not to do before the challenge and the reason we left) to distract the crowd from the fact that on that day, TWO Drum Sections (that's right the active students and the alumni drummers that also participated in the challenge) took a major L! But of course I am biased.....

  • I'll assume that you appreciated Howard and that's fine. They had good equipment and nice uniforms. This was from an era when you saw true variance in styles with minimal influence from other schools. Our (Morehouse) intent was to create a manly, poly-rhythmic, aggressive sound augmented by the existing rudiments of the era (Hybrids had not yet been introduced) and enhanced by duplicated visual elements. Howard played simpler parts (compare the two) more uniformly because that was their goal.
