The original video is really awesome. But Youtube took it down!!! Reason being nudity or sexual content.. Come on!! It was a real decent video. This sensorship I find sickening.
@YoussefFishere Same thing happened to me tonite - I heard this on Vanilla Sky and I figured it was the Stones but they don't get credit for it on the VS soundtrack so I caught the title at the end in the credits. Yeau, it's beautiful isn't it? Don't know if Mick Taylor is on it (will have to do some googling to find out if that's the case) but I can somehow see him in my mind's eye. It's got that Mick Taylor guitar sound to it. And thanks to the person who uploaded it :))
I can't believe this album is 30 years now. This song has turned out to be one of those overlooked gems for me. These guys did a lot of good tunes that weren't hits.
@savmandril Bien amigo(a),ya habia escuchado varias cosas respecto a esta estupenda cancion...pero galopar las estrellas...me parece la mejor descripcion.
thank you I shall check out that group. I never said I did not listen to new sounds, I do. and I respectfully thank you for the suggestion, I will probably like it. in your critique you have discribed it as "INCREDIBLE noise-pop music" I like those adjuctives. My point was I have not heard anything with "catchy" (the stuff that stays in your head. or melody ( a music theory term). New music can have those things. and is it timeless, alot of old stuff is not that and some new stuff is.
also, and I was a paid music critic so I can say this, pop music is not what it used to be. sad as a catchy song with melody and lyrics is timeless and keeps paying the artist and family. what on the radio right now, do you think could stand the test of time, in a nightclub ten years from now, or around a campfire. or like miss boyle doing wild horses???
@thepixieful You can say it whether you're a music critic or not. It's your opinion dude. But I'm really tired of the whole music ain't what it was schtick. your parents said that about your music, you say it about this gen, and people from my generation will criticize the next gen's music of choice.. there is plenty of ood music made today. animal collective is a band that makes INCREDIBLE noise-pop music. and though they aren't on the radio, they're immensely popular and critically acclaimed.
@thepixieful I'd say the last time the average for the charts (pop, soul, country, etc.) was better than mediocre was the 1960s. By '81, mainstream music was atrocious and getting worse. Even from Tattoo You (their last great album?) the tedious "Start Me Up" got the most airplay. "Heaven" was odd, even by Stones standards, reminding me of some kind of Tango (you're probably better versed than I am on that).
PS: Checked out Animal Collective: some brilliance cluttered with a lot of weirdness.
@dlyncottn1960 I think they were ahead of their time, some of this seems better than it originally did. things that used to seem disjointed, now seem like the great musicianship it is. but it was not all commerical. radio play stuff. mick is on Larry King this coming Tuesday.
@thepixieful I agree totally and so do a lot of people. Some of those songs back then sounded kind of like filler and pointless, now you look back and they were damn good. They were ahead of their time.
heard this for the first time today - blown away!!! This is why love the Stones. You think you've heard all class tunes only to find this tucked away on Tattoo you. Amazing stuff
Tattoo You is an ok album, Start Me Up is the biggest hit on it. If you ask me (and yes, I realize no one is asking. Shut up.) the entire side B is GREAT all the way through:
1. Worried About You
2. Tops (Fantastic song!)
3. Heaven (You might already know this one)
4. No Use In Crying (weakest song on side 2, but still good)
5. Waiting On A Friend (You might already know that one, too, but a great song to close the album to).
Song is a little weird but overlooked. It grows on you. The lineup has Wyman, Watts, Jagger on guitar/vocals and producer Chris Kimsey on piano. No Woods or Richards!
that's right ! and i've read that Mick jagger did the guitar part. if so, i'm even more admirative for this genius, lucky guy to have such voice.
i can get close to this tone with a Saw wave chorus effect, but virtual one. i'd loooove to discover the rig he used. or at least, among all the chorus effects, one that has a nice linear saw waveform, not a sine. it gives a lot of power, without being a flanger. there's also a little echo, maybe a tape echo, but it's too short.
Negative! "Tattoo You" was their last great record, and that was because a lot of "Tattoo You" was written along with Mick Taylor or it was written in the 1970's when they were at their creative peak.
This song is in Vanilla Sky (the movie) it goes amazingly good with the movie and the exact scene it was used ot. And just as good by itself actually.
In my opinion their last great album, They successfully pulled together all their great sounds of the then previous 19 years and melded into Tattoo You. Too bad they got mucked up into the later "80's and 90's pop. Although I did like Mixed Emotions.
i really love this song i remember when i first heard the album i didnt know that song and it blew me away... i heard for weeks on and on again... it became a drug to me ;-)
