  • One of my favorite battles. It was an authentic battle over who was the better MC. No violence, and it didn't hurt either of their careers. LL Cool J vs Canibus was damn good too.

  • kool moe ee killed it

  • I still don't believe Kool Moe Dee never had a drink of alcohol, drug or puff of weed or dope. Even Krayzie Bone shook his head like "..whatever, this ninja is trippin' like a futhamucka..." when they were on that ignorant gossip show on BET a few years ago. As many hits as he's had just from spittin' some of the most simplest and easy to remember lyrics in history, you can't tell me he wasn't high off of at least a few puffs of sherm or good hydro. I don't respect women. Fuck bitches. :)

  • You missed the part about the crushed Kangol on the cover of the album.

  • Kool Mo Dee.. better words. new jack swing beat was catchy at the time.

LL Cool J better delivery, beats, voice, rhymes, more advanced style.. Kool Mo WHO???

  • LL def ripped the track but truth be told and only real heads recognize, BOBCAT was his ace in the hole and really brought the jiggy to this track if you take a close listen if it wasn't for Bobcat's scratches and cutz this song wouldn't be as much of a classic as it is.

Can't take nothin from L, he for sure brought the growl like only he can but Bobcat killed this joint!!

  • @Laceiba1983 naw thats mainstream thats many underground albums that got thier own style

    tonedeff

    k rino

    street military

    insane

    etc

  • The funny thing is, they were friends the entire time. Promoting each other off so called 'dis' records. Brilliant.

  • You can tell each rappers style by the track they rapped to. I remember liking how you like me know. Then I remember the DJ saying that was a LL diss and LL had a comback. When I heard Jack the Rapper, How You Like Me Know just seemed so tamed. Brings back cool hip hop memories for me... Oh and no one died.

  • kool moe dee sounds like ice t lol

  • Verbally both killed LL(Moe D &Canibus)but L kept it hype.

  • listen to the difference between the flows. Kool Moe Dee sounds like an ABC rapper (even though i liked him back then) and LL is EATING or should i say RIPPING the beat!!! LL Hands down

  • Moe dee trash LL ate him up!

  • @Laceiba1983 L.L. admitted he learned from Kool Moe Dee After the battle at the Apollo, there was an interview with both MCs and L.L. admitted he learned from Kool Moe Dee. I'm not dissing L.L. at all, but I perfer Moe Dee.

  • To me it's a draw, Cool J came heavy as fuck, but Moe Dee just came smooth

  • Ok, L.L. borrowed from Moe Dee. Let's be real.

  • how u like me now is cool. Nice little Teddy Riley track , good for dancing. But The ripper is that raw street hip hop. Thug niggs can't do how you like me now!

  • ll took the commercial path, loving the buck. mohandes dewese kept it real. he had the lyrics, ll had the...the...the...????

  • LL retired cool slow d. lmao everybody challange LL he destroyed them cause He can freestyle, He dont need to go write it down to create a song. Thats why LL kills them all and they career be over. BIG UP LL. you the MJ OF RAP> period.

  • Let's also not forget the most important thing, in this rap battle, both warriors are still alive.

  • Who won?? Well, just check out "Death Blow". Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of both. But LL's response, non existent.

  • Who won?? Well, just check out "Death Blow". LL's response, non existent.

  • LL lost the war or words, but Moe lost the financial battle.

  • @FDR1945 kool moe dee never won a war of words waat! he trash he dumpster juice!

  • @FDR1945 That is about the size of it....

  • This was when rap was good. Just the beat and the rapper and everything in time. Who won? Depends on what you're looking for. Moe Dee's is smooth as silk and Cool J's is heavy as fuck. Both deliver.

  • Kool Moe Dee killed LL cool j no offense to L but he got lyricily bitch slapped

  • Kool won this man, no doubt about it. Just compare the lyrics.

  • LL won even tho moe dee went hard

  • @jmaal2345 LL GOT LYRICILY BITCH SLAPPED

  • Moe Dee destroyed him man.

  • I love the original old school - but nobody beats the L - LL slayed him on every level.

  • Honestly regardless of who you support, the fact that this issue still lights people's fires make me very happy inside. It is a testament to the awesomeness of these artists and speaks to its relevancy. After watching this and reading the comments I am a little less likely to go insane when radio hip hop is played because I know that somewhere out there, someone feels the same way I do. Argue if you must, but never stop calling out the garbage spewing from your city's most popular station.

  • Does anyone see LL Cool J's signature hat under the cars tire ? LOL XD

  • NO VULGER LANGUAGE & still rocked the mic, we wasn't wit all that cursing & obscenities. It's like rap took a UGLY turn to destroy our youth & it's working

  • the rap of the 80's and 90's was good....even a rocker agrees

but todays shit has MADE me become more of a rocker...rappers cant rap 2 day

  • What's the name of the track in the beginning?

The first that play before the diss...

    Thanx .. i need it :)

  • @1987blaze1987 scratch by marly marl

  • Kool Moe Dee trashed LL. It wasn't even close: LL yells at a certain point "I am double platinum!", but that was totally irrelevant! If being a great battle MC was just about the number of records you sold, then MC Hammer was probably the greatest of all time!!! LOL

  • On this song KMD straight word fucked LL. But Jack The Ripper, Mama said Knock You Out, To Da Break Of Dawn, & the 3rd Verse of the Original Rock The Bells bludgeoned Moe Dee. Let's Go was good but Death Blow was weak and desperate. He just ran out of ammo against LL.

The 3rd verse of the Original Rock The Bells absolutely annihilated Moe Dee.

  • @Chauncey1966 it was close...I never felt like this battle could be called. Kool Moe Dee outrapped LL with the "living in limbo lyrical lapse, low life with the loud raps" but LL had harder delivery with more updated production at the time.

I would pick Moe Dee if it was word for word, but LL wins on overall presentation

  • kool moe dee is a legend

  • Bad

Mama said knock ya out - classic

    ripper

  • @musiclover77able U SERIOUS CHECK OUT DEATHBLOW THEN SAY IT'S A TIE

  • HOW DID LL WIN THE WAR PLEASE LL GOT HIS ASS ATE UP BUT HE WON THE THE WAR

  • na na na the shear speed of LL's rap an power of his lyrics chopps this washed up rapper into smitherenes! yeh koemoe had better background music and a funkyer sound to it, but on the basis of MC'ing LL wins hands down. Period.

  • @danzcer WHAT ARE YOU LISTENIN TO KMD ATE LL ASS

  • LL's song is better than Moe Dee's. Truthfully the rhymes in both are pretty even, but LL excels on riding the beat and putting a certain amount of angst in the rhymes. His sounds like a battle rap. Moe Dee's is a real good song but LL handles it.

  • hell no ll is the king!!! \

  • Hahha kool moe Dee killed this punk !

  • Haahahhaah kook moe Dee killed this punk ! Cool j is a jocker that cAn't rap to good the beat over crowds him !

  • sry but Kool Moe Dee won to me

  • Kool Mo Dee is Good, But LL Rocked him and will rock anyone talking that BS. Including all the new rappers. Do not doubt LL......

  • @jcarrasq2002 SO WHY DIDN'T LL BATTLE KMD IN FRONT OF A MILLION AND PLUS TO SEE WHO WAS BETTER

  • MOE DEE IS THE BEATS OF THE EAST IN THIS BATTLE LYRICALLY BETTER EACH SONG BUT JACK THE RIPPERS BEAT WERE JUS MORE CATCHY BUT MOE DEE HIT EM WIT THE DEATH BLOW

  • Kool Moe Dee is the lyrical champ in this battle. Those saying LL had better rhymes obviously don't know rap. Plus, rap is lyrical. If it were about a instrumental then that would mean Marley Marl / Rick Rubin and Teddy Riley were in the beef. They're not. Rap = Lyrical. :-

  • Ive had this debate for years. SONG TO SONG L.L. WON!! KMD music was terrible in this battle. But as much as i defended LL, a friend of mine said, WRITE DOWN EVERY WORD TO EACH RECORD!! MOE DEE KILLED LL. He was right. JACK THE RIPPER is just an ILL record regardless, but I think its more LL energy and The RICK RUBIN production that made me jump on it, BUT rhyme for rhyme ( and i hate saying this 20 years later) I THINK MOE OUT RHYMED HIM

  • @REGINALD0205 Now, that was a smart review. Lyrics is what it's all about. Marley Marl and Teddy Riley are not battling. LL & KMD were. Yep, LL lost. LOL!

  • @REGINALD0205 thank you

  • Kool won. not shure whyz everyones iz hatin

  • Also, this line was sick;

""Immaculate styles I use to abuse, MC's, so light the fuse

And spread the news, you lose.

    To the damager, microphone manager

Cold crush and bruise and bandage a amateur"

Just so much versatility in this track, kinda mirrors G Raps style of rhyming.

  • This was a great battle, but I'd say LL won. LL lyrically killed it on "To Da Break of Dawn". The rhyme schemes he used were the sickest he's ever done. Cadences and patterns galore.

His versatility was ill. Check the pattern switch ups in the first verse.

"The rep I keep, the MC's I peep, sweep, play cheap

And freak with a chic unique technique"

  • out of all the diss kool moe dee won this war death blow was so f***ing cool

  • Jack the Ripper effectively ended this beef. Moe Dee was nice lyrically, but LL dropped a nuclear bomb on his ass with

  • KOOL MOE DEE took this shit!!!!!

  • L.L. all the way. Kool Moe Dee is a Kurtis Blow wanna be. L.L. more style and tight lyrics.

  • Let's Go was better.

  • If you were alive back then to witness this battle, everyone knows LL came out on top. Kool Moe Dee was good, but LL was great. This is one of the great battles from old school rap. LL won, and is still rockin' the mic

  • @dablaqueguy - Connoisseurs know better, it was Kool Moe Dee 100%.

  • @OnlineCommercialsNet Not in this case!

  • LL lost because he didn't understand how to battle. Inexplicable, really, he was (and is) so damn good. Really knew how to make a record, lyrics tight and raw as hell, and all that, but somehow thot a battle was record sells and bragging bout himself. I wish someone had shown him how to battle, he mighta won.

  • i definitely know whos sexier....LL of course!!!!!!!!

  • it was no contest, LL is not in the same league:)

  • did they ever battle..

  • lll killed it with jack the ripper love that beat how you like me now im getting busier im d platium watching you get dizzer

  • Moe Dee killed LL with Let's Go

  • they are voth sweet great rivalry but moe dee owned em...KMD won no doubt ll had some good runs tho :)

  • let,s keep it REAL LL,COOL J DONE HIM!

  • Man anyone who thinks Moe Dee won this Battle is smokin' crack!! LL manhandled him. The original Rock The Bells 3rd verse saw to that. Plus Moe Dee went too far with I'll rock those L's wackness. DeathBlow was weak as hell. Ta da break of dawn, Mama said knock you out killed him.

Btw Canibus Got destroyed completely by LL. Anytime you try to diss some other rapper while steal their beats and flow (You're Dead on Rip The Jacker) shows non battle skills.

  • @Chauncey1966 oooohhhhh nooooooo ll got his kangol served to him by canabis 2nd round knockout im the bigest ll supporter out here but that can i bust shit did not fuck with 2nd rnd ko

  • Yeah, Kool Moe Dee definitely took the win with this one. LL has a more freaked up beat to back him up.

  • kool moe dee won the battle all the people sayin l won don't know shit bout hip hop moe dee career didn't end cause of this moe dee ended with all the first gengeration mcs like melle mell grandmaster caz etc...

  • Kool moe dee killed him with "The death Blow"

  • moe dee had cool j reaching and bringing the best out and jack the ripper was a ill joint the way he flowed to ashley's roachclip

  • Kool Moe Dee won the battle but LL won the war

  • Yeah there are alot of youngsters on here. Anyone who said LL ate Kool Moe Dee up don't know sh*t. I liked both but I always said KMD won this battle!

  • the people tht pick LL r probably lil kids or some chicks

  • Moe Dee's flow was outdated. LL was fresh.

  • @curr3ncy86 But Moe Dee had better lyrics!

Not like LL saying "ME ME ME" all the time

  • @yakuzamadddogg "Back for the payback, I must say that

I heard your new jam, I don't play that

It ain't loud enough punk, it ain't hitting

This year you tried, next year you're quitting". That pretty much sums up the battle. Just accept it man.

  • Round 1 goes to LL Cool J

  • @hypnyxx LOL.... CoolJ is still jumping up and down on Moes throat, 22 years later!!

Round 1, 2, 3 fuck it... over and out!!

"How you like me now?" - Well... remembering back... I'm still laughing at ya, Moldy!!! hahaha

  • LL over Moe dee all day.

  • LL all the way

  • uk rapper chek out my disses

  • I used to love all the James Brown samples in this song. Loved it.

  • Moe d was an ill mc, but LL is the goat.

  • 11 minutes of music? Holy Shit. And I thought Grandmaster Flash's songs were long.

  • How you like me now im gettin bizzier Im double platnum im watchin u get dizzier. Man please LL is the GOAT

  • LL over moe D any day you prick!!!

  • One of the best hits of Kool Moe Dee

To the uninitiated, who do not enjoy the best of Funk Music, unfortunately do not know what they say, what they write, what you hear, much less say about what you do not understand and ready!

  • HipHop had a good run, the people gotta make a new genre again "The Man" has taken another form of our music :-\

  • Kool Moe Dee ripped LL. go find Let's Go by Kool Moe Dee. If you think LL won you cant be judging by battle lyrics.

  • LL killed this guy.

  • oh yeah !!!!

  • Kool Moe Dee's flow was wack and dated. LL was the future back then.

  • kOOL mOE DEE WAS Horrible! LL murdered him and his career! His style was lame! He was like phonetically challenged...LL G.O.A.T

  • which Kool Moe Dee's lyric did LL took ?

  • L.L. didn't bite lyrics, he stole style.

  • Yup, just like R Kelly stole Aaron Hall's

  • I have respect for both but ll ended kool moe dees career. For those who say kmd killed ll you must be joking.

  • Comin' back like return of the Jedi,

Sucker MC's in the place that said I,

    Could only rock rhymes,

    And only rock crowds,

    But never rock records,

    HOW YA LIKE ME NOW!!!

  • Whether LL or KMD won, one thing's 4 sho:

Soulja Beeotch, Lil' Gayne, or any rapper out now can't touch or even get close to either one of them

  • well put

  • @PeekaBooo08 yes they can dummy

  • @girlkaboom14 99.9% of all rappers today on the radio SUCK and can NEVER TOUCH LL OR KMD. That's why you're even on this channel you stupid Soulja Beeotch groupie. Now git yo' lil' ignant micro ass home befo I give you a whoopin'!!

X-D ROFL!! make sure your lil' titties fill your training bra before you get at me, little girl. Respect your elders and take it.

  • @PeekaBooo08 i can

  • @PeekaBooo08 KMD got'em with the "death blow"

  • @PeekaBooo08 You aint Lyin

  • Where I'm from [SouthSide Chi] cat's was loving kool Moe back then !!!!!!!!! I didn't really hear a lot of people hollering LL too much. Now when LL came out with "I'm Bad" people was on that but that's the only time I heard anything. I think kool Moe was far better than LL !!!

  • I think "Let's Go" crushed LL.

  • lets go was the most under rated diss track around

  • true dat!

  • 1 of alltime greats,.im lukin4the insrto,,i wrote a diss called@just go!@

i dida version calld "just go" but i need the instro,,,so i recorded it witha diff beat :( check my page for the track

  • u guys notice LL's Kangol hat is under the tire of the jeep???

  • LL killed it for sure!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

    Rap is the jungle!

    LL is rabbit!

  • ok as a listner and a hip hop head ll won the battle and this is the straight truth

  • I love SHUT 'EM DOWN. by LL I listen to this and I remember someone said that LL did it so bad he was left stuttering the L.

Whatever... I liked both LL and Kool but I really, REALLY like LL's Shut em Down.

I only listen to the old stuff but someone mentioned it so I checked it out and I liked it.

  • Comment removed

  • yeah he way better with his lyrics

  • LL is sure Jack the ripper when he is in a batttle

  • i love l.l. hes the best brag rapper ever...but moe dee beat him.. 2-0 !!! LETS GO AND DEATH BLOW FOR THOSE "L.L" LABELS- A BRILLIANT USE OF L-ANGUAGE..A BRILLIANT ERA OF RAP

  • youngsters once you listen to Jack the Ripper by L.L.,,you will understand who was better! L.L.s best song ever!!

  • LL came back strong on that joint -- But Kool Moe had a tighter lyrical style. Kool Moe captures Hip Hop in his style -- LL was the Godfather of the 2nd Generation and from him and few others "Rap" was inspired. This can be seen on some of LL's more "cross over" tracks (girly songs whatnot).

LL is both hip hop and rap and is the longest surving artist (bar none).

Kool G and Bambataa were always my fav

  • Moe never rock records only crowds??? Waz tha' jive!

    He can rock anything!

BTW check his Death blow diss of LL !!!!

Moe is the oen who started MC battles so LL bit out of his league on that one! Heheheheehehe!

Peace 2 all you ol' skewlers!!

  • Lyrics are ass

  • and you're how old? this is WAY before your time young Blood. things have changed.

  • this is like 86 88' nigga u don't know nothin about hip hop boi. better than that trash that's on today

  • Damn Youtube is mad funny. You can basically manipulate people into typing whatever you want. Anyway. I'd listen to this before the majority of the shit that's out now to be clear, but even for its day the lyrics were kinda wack. Thats why when L came back with JTR it was a wrap.

  • aHH, THe MeMorieS....

  • To me,Kool Moe Dee had the tightest lyrics but his instrumentals were whack. And I think that's what help sink his career.

  • WOW!! You are one young, dumb_fuck!!!

Just shut the_fuck up while grown folks are talking!!!!!.......Nas and Jigga?!?

    NIGGA PLEASE!!!!

  • Yep, Nas and Jigga would kill these slow ass rappers!

  • you sound DUMB this is real rap NOT THAT SHOOT'EM SHIT NOW

  • If it wasn't for these .."slow ass rappers", there wouldn't be a Nas or a Jigga!!!

You sound real young right now...

  • Hey, you prison cigarette fag! Nas and jigga wouldn't EXIST w/o these guys. Moe Dee was 1 of Hip Hop's Early MCs. Besides, Jay-Z is garbage. Why do you think it took him so long to blow up? Besides, Jay used nothing but pop hooks in his rhymes and barely rhymed at all. He's one of the morons that helped kill Hip Hop. W/the exception of a few MCs, most rappers after '96 sucked. R.I.P. Hip Hop (1974-1996)!

  • i agree hip hop died after 96'

  • You forget the Wu-Tang Forever Album ...

  • Hip -Hop ain't dead,it just left the industry! True R&B as well!!

  • Well..I know that we still have our classics & all that, but I just don't see any change happening any time soon. Even the underground rappers are on that kick, where they repeat each bar 6,7,8 times. A lot of them have gritty production (which I like) but their rhymes are very basic. W/ the exception of a few Wu-related Killa Bees, there are hardy any MCs that try anything original rhyme wise or lyrics/message wise. I'm waiting for the day, when it comes back strong. I hear ya on the R & B as

  • (continued) well. They've done interesting things w/it here & there, (I liked Omarion's music for a while) but most R & B now, sounds like Snap. I think Music in general went down hill..alternative turned to sappy, whiney pop around 96 (which was a bad time for music in general), the Nu-metal style got old & lousy (limp bizkit,), U had some interesting things going on w/ real metal (metalcore styles), but that didn't last long. Now the only rock U hear, is wanna-be regurgitated emo-pop.

  • They stole most of their styles from these dudes! Nas bit Rakim,Jay bit Big Daddy Kane and a few others and B.I.G even got a style and feel from Kool G Rap! Please know your history or don't speak on it. They didn't need to talk about Simply kinnlin, hoes and money, they were versatile.

  • Kool Moe Dee without a doubt won the lyrical battle. LL won the longevity battle, Kool's biggest mistake was under estimating LL's promotion team, and his selling power at that time.

  • Give me Mc Shan and LL ANY DAY! kool please no moe dee compares himself to James Brown?!?

  • LL Cool J was the best in the 80s/90s, but 2000s just another Jay Z/ 50 cent even his album just came out is even worser. I HATE 2000s.

  • Kool moe dee hands down had the better lyrics but Double L had the production behind his rhymes. unlike today nothing but good jams came out these battles. Now a battle ends up in deaths.

  • I have the HOW YOU LIKE ME album and if the notice the diss continues on the cover (picture above). It is a parody of LL's BIGGER & DEFFER cover with a car on the cover and also notice the red Kangol under the front wheel.

  • Man LL was and still is commercial. He had a bigger label behind him. Solja Boy sold hella albums too, and he has NO word play whatsoever!

  • even martin lawrence said it in def jam comedy...he felt bad seeing moe dee a year after this bcos he was finished lol. You dont step to the GOAT

  • KMD killed him just like Canibus did..

  • only thing Canibus killed was his own career

    nobody messes with the G.O.A.T.

  • canibus' career didnt get killed. what have you been missing? cus he's not on t.v. with soldier boy and them? Canibus is legendary....RIGHT NOW...go check him out homie.....wow....LL cool J can't rhyme with canibus

  • Look at where Canibus was before and look where he was after that battle

Canibus is a good mc don't get me wrong

    I'm talking about their battle

Canibbus was supposed to be that next great rapper

    NEVER HAPPENED

    that battle hurt him

having mike tyson in the video made it worse

L murder him on the same track

that was the first time that ever happened

of luda did it to t.i. on that young buck track

  • Look where he was? Where? Signed with WyClef? Where is that? On tv? where is that? Canibus is doing better than he was THEN homie. turn off the radio...ur NOT hip hop...ur industry standard, obviously.....

  • Thats no place

How many classics did canibus put out?

That team-up with clef was a disaster

I don't listen to radio, too much talking

    and who's talking about tv

Any rapper smart enough to diversify their career good for them, but we ain't talking about tv

You diss me becuase i don't agree with you?

It cool dog i didn't realize you was a canibus groupee

Tell your man to put out a classic

  • i'm with you..canibus lost to russell simons, not to LL. canibus is legendary with his skills.

  • ll cool j baby that how he do. no one can beat him baby will jack the riper mama said knock u out and all his other video

  • wow thats crazzy kool moe dee's rhymes is so much more bettah den ll cool j's yea he may luk gud but kool moe dee really knows how to wear the mic out.. Sorry :~[

  • moe dee killin it once again

  • LL Won da shit so giv da fuck

  • The fact that it's recorded means it will be around for ever. Kool Moe Dee is very relevant today, as face the involvement of cults and secret societies in hiphop.
