This is an ACTUAL breakdown from 4/22/10 for a UNION spot advertising the already popular Apple iPad that will earn a union actor a TOTAL of $98 for a year of unlimited use:
Union Status SAG
Conflicts None
Run(Usage) Web & New Media including viral, iPhone & iPad
Rate *$88 for 10 hour day (min. wage) + $10 buyout for 1 year
Yesterday KFWB news radio reported their Entertainment Financial Analysts released a new report that there would be "an immediate temporary surge of new production as the studios & networks begin STOCKPILING product before the impending 2011 MegaStrike" Exactly what a number of us were predicting would happen. Now it is even MORE vital that we as union members PRESSURE our administration for cohesive preparatory measures to regain what was given up with the ratification of this contract.
Where's all of the work we were promised? Oh, well I guess the problem really was the ECONOMY and not our damn Contract that was the problem. But after all of the lies promising the Golden Age of Work for us, WHERE IS IT? Now we've signed away what little we DID have FOR NOTHING. Oh, wait, I forgot--for a small percentage of the union to get their 3% standard pay raise on the series they are lucky enough to be on right now. Wow. Honorable men are turning over in their graves. Very sad era.
In a SAG Board meeting tonight, David White "informed" the room that he pretty much has no plan of action for the future, and is doing nothing to achieve for the members what forcing this contract through was "supposed to" gain. And he took about 800 words to say nothing, as well, leaving the entire room baffled as to what his response actually was. So that's where we're at now folks-YEAH! a 3 percent (standard gain) increase for the loss of the control of your image & likeness in perpetuity!ya!
What we are looking at is essentially the same contract that was put before us months ago...the same contract the board UNANIMOUSLY voted down. UNANIMOUSLY! A BAD contract is still a BAD contract. AMPTP is stonewalling, but they will hear us when we vote NO. Vote NO before the June 9th deadline and take a stand for our FUTURE...for ACTORS.

We've been at this for ocer 18 months and ever y step of the way the plan of the Vote No group has failed. 8 contracts languished and the agency franchised disappeared. A majority is a majority. Membership as a "slim majoriy" has not made one gain for us. The contract is good - every is focused on what we didn't get and not what we did. going it alone failed, and voting no leaves us alone in negotiations forever. Vote YES for the future.

I forgot to add one other thing. Mr. Bakula is taking the low road, following the MF pattern, and attacking fellow actors. He himself may be a good actor, but he has no respect for the rest of us. Be wary of what he has to say to you.

actors took the low road. Waited till the last minute. Melissa is right. Actors need to stand together. so why did the MF yahoos on the board attack AFTRA and any actors that disagreed with them? You sow what you reap. Accept responsibility for the disaster the previous board lead us to. voting yes gets us back on track.

Scott and Melissa are fine actors and I respect their work. But I'm not interested in sending a message to the board as Scott says. That won't get me anything, just more contract limbo. Scott is calling anyone who would "vote yes" spineless, with no self-worth, and worse. He said it nicely but he's still a bully. And "Vote no" = STRIKE. That simple. Melissa wants us to take time to figure out how to get a good deal. I agree. VOTE YES gets us that time to get unified and get a better deal.
Blue: Ask yourself. If you were the Studios (AMPTP) and you agreed to SAG's demand that they're able to line up with the other Unions to garner more "strength" and "leverage", then what would be your reason? Because you want to help SAG strike in two years? Because you want all the other Unions to strike in two years? Sorry, Blue, but you're naive to think the AMPTP gave term to SAG for any other reason other than for show. They will bargain with the Unions one at a time... Guaranteed.
Let's make this point also.. in the 80s, a "short offer" was made on DVD residuals, just in case it panned out... in 25 years, has that formula changed? Nope. Once the AMPTP gets the terms they want, why would they offer to change. So, despite the claim "well, this figure is only for two years" in results to the terrible new media portion, I'd remind them the same horse manure was put forward 25 years ago.. and two years has turned into 25.
HELL NO! VOTE NO!

right on. This vid gets it.
SAG is supposed to protect the actors.
other unions did not have to take the deal offered to them, they could have decided differently instead of giving into scare tactics of the moment.

VOTE NO. Let's get the best deal we can, not merely acquiesce to the lousy deal we were handed months ago. Agreed. Thanks for stating it clearly.

So a Yes vote "gives us time to get
unified"?
2 years to get unified with WHOM?
AFTRA? You mean AFTRA which deserted us and undercut us with a sweetheart deal?
AFTRA which deserted us on a false pretext? Falsely accusing us of poaching jurisdiction over "The Bold & the Beautiful"?
Good luck "unifying" with AFTRA. Too many of us will remember their treachery, too many for any merger scheme to pass.
What other union shall we "unify" with? DGA? The DGA that sold us ALL out? Hm.
