@HippieInACanNYC Ya he's def playing if I only had a brain!! I saw your comment before the vid loaded, and then I got my mind blown!!! like I needed another reason to think he was a genius :)
@isomikieee This was recorded when Jaco was on the decline, during one of his increasingly rarer moments of sobriety and lucidity. He had no bass of his own at the time, so the producers had to borrow/rent one for the session. Obviously, the switch to fretted did not impact his gift of expressiveness in the least. It's hard for me to watch this video for the tragedy of it all, yet the little moments of raw brilliance that shine through keep the true legacy of JP alive.
It doesn't look as worn-in to me as the BOD was, but I've been wrong before. I just remember the borrowed-bass thing being the story behind the video when it was released. At any rate, it was never about the bass - it was all about the man.
HOLY CRAP. I love you Jaco, this performance was off the charts, godly a genius, i love listening to that, it starts good, the middle rocked, ended beautifully

I don't feel so bad now when I mess up playing the fast parts of the solo.

@HippieInACanNYC You're correct! Pretty much a signature lick of Jaco's! A good lick to learn and try in all different modes.
