@MMOTotal I believe it shouldn't exist to begin with. I can understand Fallen Earth's system for crafting but by making it so that SW:ToR doesn't require any input bar "[a] go to [b] and get me [c] stacks of [d], then turn it into [e]." will devastate the in-game economy.
Even better is that you will have AI companions that fight alongside you - aren't MMORPGs supposed to be social games? - Difficulty is a key factor in "fun", and turning it to easy-modo makes the experience entirely banal.
@dystopianlover The whole point of TOR is to make your character feel HEROIC - take wow as a example - you defeat the Lich King yet you still do the dull boring tasks like farming etc - SWTOR fixes this
Companions are a great addition imo - they are not allowed in Raid so difficulty will still be "fun" -
also look at the films - does Han Solo travel alone ? - no - he travels with his companions, TOR re-invents the films moments because of this system - Everyone gets there own companion
@dystopianlover Now - companions are a OPTION to use - you could kill them off if you wanted to - you have to remember a lot of elements from KOTOR is being related here which is why i will like TOR - there will be a lot of social interaction but also with NPC's aswell
@MMOTotal A. They're achieving 'heroism' via their methodology of MMO combat, or so they say. That doesn't require a comapnion, in fact a companion is detrimental to that feeling of heroism - which is great for a single-player game!
Companions are just a way to make the game 'accessible' [idiot-proofed for Call of Duty fans; Bioware's second-favourite audience], whilst providing the neckbeards [Bioware's main audience] some virtual ass to fuck.
@MMOTotal Cont. ... I can't see how companions make the game more fun, exciting or 'lore-relevant', unless you're 'soloing' the game [also known as 'completely missing the point.']
It seems to me that Bioware's making a half-assed WoW-clone with their signature gimmicks involved. It seems really fucking irrelevant to the average MMO player, after all, I seriously doubt that the gameplay is deep enough to hold the PVP'er [GW 2], or the PVE long enough or rewarding enough for the WoW-addicts.
i went and pre ordered the game from gamestop and they said that it is jan. 3 and they wont move the release date again because the orignal release date was october 2010...
@darknorris2 Bioware's slated the game for a Q3 2011 release date. However, being an MMO, I wouldn't consider it odd for the date to change multiple times.
wish we could get a concrete release date, I wants it.....play.com says release date is 25th March, but the official forums says release will be some time after EA's fiscal year ends. Which isn't until 31st March, and considering there doesn't seem to be any hint of an Open Beta as of yet, I can't see Play.com being right about the release date
what an ingenious way to stop bot hacks from occurring... they allow you to use bots IF and WHEN you earn the NPCs to do your work for you... such a good idea
It seems like it might be too easy to actually get all of the skills and stuff that you would want or need. I mean I know it's shitty having to go out and get all of the materials for something you may want to make yourself although with this it seems like everyone could easily get the same crafted items which makes them that much less special
This is one of the reason why i must buy this when this comes out for aus......

@dystopianlover this is a option you know - it also helps you to do more "fun" stuff if you wish -

Then graphics can always be improved as the game goes along, much like wow has. The core gameplay and mechanics are what matter more for release.
