Over the past 100 years, earth's average climate rose by .6 degrees Celsius globally, the trends between CO2 and temperature are correlating. Corporations just aren't willing to pay for their actions so they make a cover that it's a myth so they won't have to follow or get new regulations.. It's not just global warming, but global climate change. There are several odd things happening in different climates. Even if global warming didn't exist, we still shouldn't be polluting the Earth because we're breathing poisonous gases that can harm us. We should also take care of our planet that we live on.
Did you know that Greenland used to have a warm weather with plants and trees growing instead of ice? that's why it was called GREENland.
There were even viking villages there, right now Greenland is covered with snow and ice so I think it's safe to say that 2010 is NOT the hottest year ever, especially considering that scientists have only been keeping record of the Earth climate since the early 20th century.
Considering that the Greenland ice sheet dates back 400,000 - 800,000 years, it's very doubtful that Greenland was mostly green at any time in the past 400,000 years. Naming it "Greenland" was probably due to wanting to get people to settle the land than to actually name the location based on it's physical characteristics.

If you happen to pick a good orange, it doesn't mean all the oranges in basket are good. Actually it depends on what research group you ask. NASA states 2005 is the hottest, but they're losing credibility after a dataset mixup showing the 1990's were the hottest in the U.S. and it was really the 1930's.

@hesteaeble 2010 is only the joint hottest year, and even then only by taking averages. 1998 has the highest peak temp, when averaged to around 5 months or so the two are about the same. therefore your statement is at best inaccurate and at worst wrong in and of itself. to say that 2010 was hotter than 1998 isnt really true, it was a bit cooler than the warmest part of 1998 but the warm bit lasted a bit longer. maybe im just splitting hairs but with 8 thumbs up i felt it needed mentioning.
sorry for the late reply. 2010 is not the warmest year on record, it is only the joint warmest when averaging things out over longer periods, but the highest peak is not in 2010. really its kinda irrelevant tho. the fact is that the world is warming, its hard to know why, it could well be due to CO2 concentrations but it seems doubtfull to me that it will become a big problem. its not warming at the pace claimed by the ipcc and so we will probaly have time to adapt or prevent it.

It's not just global warming, but global climate change. There are several odd things happening in different climates. Even if global warming didn't exist, we still shouldn't be polluting the Earth because we're breathing poisonous gases that can harm us. We should also take care of our planet that we live on.

Did you know that Greenland used to have a warm weather with plants and trees growing instead of ice? that's why it was called GREENland.
There were even viking villages there, right now Greenland is covered with snow and ice so I think it's safe to say that 2010 is NOT the hottest year ever, especially considering that scientists have only been keeping record of the Earth climate since the early 20th century.

Considering that the Greenland ice sheet dates back 400,000 - 800,000 years, it's very doubtful that Greenland was mostly green at any time in the past 400,000 years. Naming it "Greenland" was probably due to wanting to get people to settle the land than to actually name the location based on it's physical characteristics.

No. A theory is something that a scientist tested and proved--then another scientist did the same--and another and another and so on. When the vast majority of scientists agree, it's a theory.

Volcanoes spew giant amounts of carbon dioxide. Humanity has been producing carbon dioxide in large amounts since the Industrial Revolution. That was about 200 years ago. There is no way we could have so affected the environment in that short of time. It took millions of years for the environment and ecosystem to be formed. We could not have fucked it up so fast. Someone like Al Gore is just wanting attention, and he is using this stupid theory with fake data to get ahead. That makes me sick.

I used to be supportive of fighting against global warming, especially after Al Gore's movie, but as time passed on, I've realized that the effects are fairly small... I do fight for a better environment, I save electricity, use energy saving light bulbs, turn off unneeded electrical devices... But I no longer do it to fight global warming..
Right now in Poland the temperatures range from -9 to -18 celsius (-18 is about 0 Fahrenheit) so don't try to tell me it's boiling hot...

The historical temperature ('hockeystick' graph), for how long CO2 stays in the atmosphere, where all scientists before said 10 years but IPCC 200 years with no explanation why 30+ studies (incl Revelle, Bolin etc) are wrong, ignoring ocean absorption.

Actually it depends on what research group you ask. NASA states 2005 is the hottest, but they're losing credibility after a dataset mixup showing the 1990's were the hottest in the U.S. and it was really the 1930's.

@hesteaeble 2010 is only the joint hottest year, and even then only by taking averages. 1998 has the highest peak temp, when averaged to around 5 months or so the two are about the same. therefore your statement is at best inaccurate and at worst wrong in and of itself. to say that 2010 was hotter than 1998 isnt really true, it was a bit cooler than the warmest part of 1998 but the warm bit lasted a bit longer. maybe im just splitting hairs but with 8 thumbs up i felt it needed mentioning.

sorry for the late reply. 2010 is not the warmest year on record, it is only the joint warmest when averaging things out over longer periods, but the highest peak is not in 2010. really its kinda irrelevant tho. the fact is that the world is warming, its hard to know why, it could well be due to CO2 concentrations but it seems doubtfull to me that it will become a big problem. its not warming at the pace claimed by the ipcc and so we will probaly have time to adapt or prevent it.

@hesteaeble ...the point is that 1998 is the statistically significant year. a hot few days does not make a year the warmest. thats why people get annoyed when a few cold days (or months) in winter dont mean that we are experiencing cooling. 2010 was not the hottest year, and ur last statement totaly ignores basic logic. the hottest day is as irrelevant as the coldest day. the fact is that 1998 was hotter than 2010, picking a few days that were freakish isnt scientific. 1998 was much warmer!

@hesteaeble now of course u may think im following double standards, 1998 is only hotter than 2010 when looking at shorter periods but closely examining the graphs one sees that really they are roughly the same but that 1998 has the highest peak and it lasts a while whereas 2010 is close but never really peaks, to make the two seem similar they are averaged out over periods which make them seem similar, if u average it out over any other time scale they stop being similar and 1998 is warmer.

@hesteaeble hey, i know my last set of comments lacked all forms of logic, and i appologise for that but no, 2010 isnt by even a large stretch the warmest year on record. i know the skeptic side of the popular discussion is full of crap but really when the real science is added up the fact is both sides are wrong. global warming is real, but the fact is its not really gona become a problem, not that i expect u to believe me. even tho im a scientist, ps, even scientists drink ;)

The concept is really simple: 1) CO2 and methane reflect atmospheric heat back to earth
2) We create huge amounts of CO2 (by burning fossil fuels/gas)
3) We reflect heat back to earth.
4) Globe warms
5) Measure it's effects

And how do you produce hydrogen? In order to extract hydrogen from water, you need energy. Where do you get energy? Electricity. Where do you get electricity? Fossil fuel. Okay, there are geothermal power plants but the point here is that you need energy to do anything. Just b/c you get hydrogen fueled cars, doesn't mean you can now drive more.

they won't go back to their normal habits 100%. if you can just walk once instead of driving in a year, it helps. For me the scariest part is that we don't know what's going to happen.

Global Warming is REAL. Look around. Can't you feel the heat when you go outside. Sure, you can't in some places. We're only at about 2 degrees this year or so. We screw up the planet in the past. Global warming is just another thing to give this nation a scare kinda like that Chicken disease that had everyone on the rise for like a year then it died I haven't heard a thing about it since if global warming is such an issue how did we (I live in Wisconsin) have the coldest winter since the 1970's? if everything is getting so warm how come its still snowing? if your wondering about the ice caps melting stop looking at polar bears and take a vacation to the ice caps and see for yourself...

can you explain to me what the correct temp for the planet is? The planet has warmed slightly yet it has been both much colder and much warmer in the past - so how do you know the planet isn't still recovering from the mini ice age?
