Secondly, I am not condoning the actions of that man who killed the boy...not at ALL~ My initial comment was in regards to what the mother says in this interview about "wanting to know why he was chased in the 1st place" and to that the answer is simple....he was doing something illegal by defacing someone else's property. Its funny how people that aint from these areas like to sit back and criticise.Look at country music for example people do it all over NZ what do u say about them.The only thing smashproof are doing is using hiphop culture (an international artform) to express something going on in there neighbourhood....who cares if they are speaking chinese, heavy metal whatever if it inspires people to think about these issues im all for it.

Im actually from West Auckland & have family and friends all over South Auckland , That I visit often . And although Im not from there I have some idea of what it is like there .
Not so much criticising but more asking questions ? Why are people acting like gangsters and the rest of it ?

The woman says "Still wanna know why he was chased"...He was chased cos he was tagging on someone elses property...Tagging is illegal.. I'm not condoning the murder...but that is why he was chased! I agree to a point. I like his music. Nice to see someone that actually has talent in this genre getting some recognition. As for growing out of tagging...I never felt the need to tag anything. the kid did not deserve to die for it and the murderer should feel the full extent of the law. There are rules that you must abide by if you want to live in this country. Respecting others property is part of that. End of story.

You must realise that not everyone is like you and some kids didn't have the oppurtunities you might've had in your life, you must also realise there is over 2000 people employed in the graffiti removal sector across new zealand, do you want another 2000 new zealanders to lose their fucking jobs? Graffiti is a part of any big city and it'll never go away, dull walls look good when those taggers grow up and became outstanding graffiti artists which make auckland the uniqueness it is.

Did you stop to think that the things you consider to be 'dull walls' may not actually be dull walls to the person that owns them? If the funds used to pay your 2000 graffiti removers was directed towards erecting 'dull walls' for the purpose of being tagged, I doubt many would have a problem.

That's correct. So why aren't taggers using those instead of private fences which are the property of someone else? Your argument is rubbish. Let's say for example your car which you worked hard for is stolen by some selfish little prick who wants to take it for a joy ride. Should you just get used to it because 'half the population breaks the law'? Or would you rather the offender was punished and taught how to participate in their community?

ok i agree that tagging is ILLEGAL but i was it really worth it for the guy to chase him down the street? look at the outcome i live in south auckland and hav done so all my life and i know how frustrating it is have your property tagged but if he had let the boy go yes he would have a tagged fence but he would also have freedom i believe he let his anger take control of the situation which lead to a childs death and a mans conviction sad really

I think TV3 had a far more balanced, non judgemental reporting angle on this story than tv1 did...strange coz tv3 is a commercially owned tv station... tvone is suppose to be pretty balanced. Kia ora for sharing this one... Hope we can learn from this and instead of kill our kids take care of them and tautoko them even when they do things such as tagging like sid said...let them grow up and grow out of that... with support n love not perpetuated violence
