Are you sure this is not August 1970??? He performed in detroit then. And they mention Janis Joplin just being on the Dick Cavett show and she appeared on Cavett in August 1970. They dont's talk about her in the past tense as if she was dead which she was by 1971.
It's 1970, he's talking about needing something new and exciting. Southern Rock, a'la ZZ Top, Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, Wet Willie, Outlaws, et al, are about 2-3 years away from changing the rock world! This flat out rocks, Johnny is still the man!
Haha I love that what JW said about music in this video is what many people say about the state of music today. Many people don't realize but there's always been bad music and good music, there's still good music today you just have to search for it, and let me give you a clue it's not on the mtv.
It would be nice if the freaking bass player wasn't so busy and maybe in key once in a great while...

This is late summer 1970. Not 1971. Ann Arbor Blues Festival was late July 1970

killer boys,,,where are those days?
Music now is a pale shadow of what it has been in the 60 - 70 's and naturally the pioners from the 50's.
God must bring us some more really cool guys like JW and crew.
