@welbyskinner Yes, thanks for the reminder — I've been meaning to upload more from it, that's track 10. If you click on my Notes above there's a link to the site where you can buy this album on CD. :)
Jeannie Lewis is a goddess who has never been properly recognised in Australia- so typical of Aus if its a bit off centre- always loved her concerts and music- the Australian Piaf is not a good enough description- so many styles of voice and octaves! may you live for ever!!!!!- Charles Berry
@malcolmcberry Too right, mate! I know all about that, I'm an Aussie too (& why my hubby & I moved to the US in the 90s). They call it the "Tall Poppy Syndrome" — grow too tall, get cut down to size.
But I think Jeannie just didn't get the recording contracts & proper promotion she deserved — whether that was by choice or bad management, who knows.
@malcolmcberry No, I know there was a hell of a lot of sabotage of Aus artists at this time by local promoters andvenue owners- just talk to some of the people in the bands at places like- TF Much Ballroom in Brunswick St.- She is still really amazing and at her concerts electric. My wife and I should have stayed in the US when we had the chance in NYC. Regards Charles
Ah yes! That ex-church in Surry Hills-the Kirk Gallery, may 1975.Wore this album ot,also had it on casette. Some guys brought out the top 100 albums from Australia recently. In an interview, they said this one just missed..they were arguing the toss whether it should be included.I remember having 2 other JL albums, one with Musee de Beaux arts and Celluloid heroes, if anyone can post! Sharing flats in your 20s(1970s) gave flatmates amnesia.Theyd leave with your lps forgetting they didnt buy them!!!
Can anyone upload "Do Not Go Gentle into That Goodnight" off this same Album? I had it, years ago but lost it now - best version I reckon.
