Actually i am not sure if this is a glitch because i also saw him throw a spear when i fought him. unless he does that anyway, it might not be a glitch.
I had a similar glitch when I fought Reptile on the bottom of the pit in his secret battle, the character was Reptile with all the pit Reptiles moves, except it looked like Smoke from his secret battle.
