  • While I was Wiking off, I found something extremely hilarious.

"It's very hard to gulp down an entire bottle of Coca-Cola, and then speak clearly. The first three takes we did, when I finished the bottle, I looked at the kid and said, 'Hey, kid...Urrrp!' It wasn't intentional. I just couldn't say the line without burping."

  • Deadpool.....He sent me.

I must sound pretty sad for saying that.

  • This commercial was parodied with House, MD during Super Bowl XLV, Feb 6, 2011.

  • I was A kid when this aired. I still remember it it like it was yesterday. Mean Joe was my fucking hero!

  • @7briguy

If I had to pick one person to be my hero, I would probably go with Jim Henson. Winston Churchill would be a close second.

  • Featured in 2004 Disney's "Miracle" movie

  • "Well he's not really that mean at all."

"No, no, he's a good guy."

anyone know of what i speak?

  • Family Guy?

  • @Ravenkliff

  • It was a great commercial, this won a CLEO, which is the ad industrys top award.

  • someone smart please help me

  • you people who dont understand the connection from the article are just stupid. how do you not know who mean joe green is? probably because you're stupid.

  • its not that complicated, theres a kid in the tunnel, and joe greene was the anchor of that defense

  • yeah, i got sent here too... strange link...

  • This is in reference to his comment about three rivers security keeping that kid out of the player's tunnel

  • gallo sent me

  • Me too. Although this video doesn't make sense in regards to his column. He was talking about the 1976 Steelers. Not sure why there was a link to this.

  • hahah gallo must be drunk.. i mean, the title of the article IS "Gallo: NFL Hangover"..

  • he was talking about the terrible three rivers stadium security and how theres just some random kid able to get into the player tunnel

  • i wish i was that goddamn kid!!!!!

  • they just did a family guy episode with this lol

  • lol, yeah, one was with stewie and the uraniam, lol and other one was with the kid being peter

  • I remember this commercial. Coke is better than Pepsi.

  • amen

  • so this is where that secene comes from

  • ditto

  • naked! 0

  • I was in high school when this commercial aired. This was in the days when the Steelers were becoming a dynasty at the time. Great to remember.

  • I think the commercial would have been better and more memorable if Mean Joe Greene had thrown the empty coke can at the kid.

  • agreed

  • la version argentina con el diego es mucho mejor

  • Aww. A young Billy Beane makes his first trade.

  • Hey that little boy is Jay-Jay i know him he's a nice person,we grew up around the same area.and yes he still has the jersey!

  • classic stuff. picture and audio quality pretty bad. mike.

  • that little boy is my cousin!

Im not lying I met him he still has that jersey

  • that little boy is my cousin too! im not lying i met him and he still has that jersey!!!!!

  • hey, he is mine too!!!11

  • mine too!!!!!1!!11!

  • lol family guy hahaha

  • YAY!!! :D

  • A game worn Joe Greene jersey from the 70's is now worth a whole lot of moolah!

  • Pure Class....Unlike the cheesy corporate bullshit commercials of today...Not to mention half of the players we have in the NFL are more worried about their appearnce than playing football,,,I.E. Tom Brady!!!

  • Advertising at its finest-> still one of the greatest commercials ever.

  • lol i studied this commercial in school and they pulled it becasue it wasn't producing any sales.

  • funny how everyone remembers this commercial. go figure.

  • Classic -

  • OH DEAR GOD NOW I WANT A COCA COLA!

  • MAN!!!!!!!!!! I haven't seen this in a whole life age. I would have rung out the sweat of Mean Joe's jock strap and enjoyed his salty manhood juice HAHA. STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LoL - now THAT was funny

  • Was this Mean Joe Greene Coca-Cola ad even aired in the 1980 Super Bowl?

It has been ranked #1 by fans every year CBS airs the Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials TV special.

  • The 1979 Super Bowl, I believe.

  • No, Coca-Cola introduced the "Have a Coke and a Smile" campaign in Summer 1979 replacing the "Coke adds Life" campaign.

  • It was a jersey not a towel

  • what if mean joe said.."hey kid,get the fuck outta here and bring me another damn coke"! hahaha

  • it's his game jersey, not a towel

  • shutup and drink whatever you want

  • oh they both suck...

this is just a good commercial

  • their was a parady of this on family guy and its hilarious

  • Everytime I view this old stuff I read that Family Guy did a parody of this and that. Obviously the show isn't original enough to sustain itself on its own material.

  • I agree with you!

  • you realize pretty much every comedy does a parody of everything.... look at the simpsons... case in point

  • wow thanks mean joe

  • What a sweet, melodic jingle - even with that goofy disco beat!

  • There was GHB in htta bottle. A a guy paid the kid to give him that bottle and then Joe got drug-raped.

  • One of the Best Coke Comm. I'm looking for the Original "I'd Like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmaony... I'd like to buy the world a Coke and keep it company! Coke comm.

    Duets Dreams

  • God.that really brings back memories.i was about 8 years old when that commercial came out.thannk you for bringin back fond memories:)

  • Still one of my favorites!

  • I love Coca Cola!!!

  • is there a clip of him accutally playing?

  • how funny they have the EXACT same commercial, well same script and everything but in spanish and instead of green it's futbol star Maradona. VERY cute concept

    -AGUANTE MARADONA!

  • Pretty good defense they had, Greene, Lambert, Ham, Blount, Greenwood, White, Edwards, Wagner, Russell.

And then throw in Franco Harris, Bleier, Swann, Stallworth...my goodness what a team.

Even Rex Grossman would have won at least 2 super bowls with that team, maybe 3 or 4.

  • I remember this commercial. Reeeeeeeaaaaaaaal famous.

  • this could be the most retarded video even dumber than numa numa i dont get it its de de dee

  • Not Indian. Native American.

  • its the same commercial of Zico and Maradona in 1982

  • BEAUTIFUL COMMERICAL!!!

  • is Diego Maradona?

  • Thanks Mean Joe....Go away kid and take that smelly t-shirt with you....Those lyrics were from a R&B song in the 80's poking fun at this commercial. Can't remember the song though.

  • I also remember a Sesame Street segment in which Gordon (Roscoe Orman) played a football player, and a kid offered him a number 7 big enough for him to stick on his jersey, which he did. And before the kid left, Gordon tossed him his towel, which ironically had a number 7 on IT. Anyone remember that?

  • i remember that. i saw the sesame street copy before i ever saw the coke commercial, so i didn't get it.

  • If memory serves me well, both Greene and that kid later starred in a TV movie that aired on NBC. And one of the early scenes was similar to this ad. And when Greene tossed his jersey, there was a slow-motion shot of it in mid-air before the kid finally caught it. Not sure I remember the movie's title though.

  • And wow! He drank that coke fast!

  • One of my favorites.

  • i dont get why it is funny i think it is the stupidest video ever

  • Cause you sir are dumb.

  • i dont get why it is funny at all

he just has a coke and gives a towel to an indian kid

  • It is not supposed to be funny. It was not an Indian kid and it was his game jersey. Worth a few hundred then, thousands now!

  • He gies the kid his Jersey..

  • I dont get why people like YOU even enter these sites....No Sense what so ever...Go Away!

  • I agree - This is the BEST ever and almost the only one I have remembered over the years.

  • Thank you so much for this BEST commercial ever...I still remember it vividly. I wish it were a lot clearer...as it was then. But, it's great...as is!

    Again,

    Thanks Much!! :) :)

  • greatest commercial of all time!!!!

  • This was an ad during Super Bowl XIII.

  • Correction - SBXIV (Steelers over Rams)

  • I am same age as that kids rougher always loved this spot/

  • its awesome how the kid says "see you around" .... cool commerical

  • I still remember seeing this when I was just a kid...now that's a commercial that sticks in your memory. Best commercial ever!

  • definately best commercial ever. still get the goosebumps

  • Joe Green was a cool guy: and I like his history. After the Steel Curtain Fame, he coached for the Steelers and then became a scout for them. Today I think he lives in Texas, (or Miami,) and he's a Grampa!

The "Mean" in his nickname "Mean Joe" Green didn't refer to his general nature: just his aggressive playing style on the field. Gotta' love him!

  • I remember this commercial very well, even if I was about six years old.

  • now i see....1979....guess i was older than i thought

  • the best. i'm feeling nostalgic. i was just a little older than the kid when this came out. early 70's??

  • Ditto - the best commercial ever. Although the full 60 second version makes it even better.

  • Ditto on that! I didn't really see what was so great about the commercial until I saw the 60 second version. It deserves all of the praise.

  • Never made me buy Coke, but it was a good commercial anyway. I couldn't even remember whether it was Coke, Pepsi, RC, or whatever. Jolt?

  • Definately one of the best commercials ever.
