While I was Wiking off, I found something extremely hilarious.
"It's very hard to gulp down an entire bottle of Coca-Cola, and then speak clearly. The first three takes we did, when I finished the bottle, I looked at the kid and said, 'Hey, kid...Urrrp!' It wasn't intentional. I just couldn't say the line without burping."
you people who dont understand the connection from the article are just stupid. how do you not know who mean joe green is? probably because you're stupid.
Me too. Although this video doesn't make sense in regards to his column. He was talking about the 1976 Steelers. Not sure why there was a link to this.
Pure Class....Unlike the cheesy corporate bullshit commercials of today...Not to mention half of the players we have in the NFL are more worried about their appearnce than playing football,,,I.E. Tom Brady!!!
MAN!!!!!!!!!! I haven't seen this in a whole life age. I would have rung out the sweat of Mean Joe's jock strap and enjoyed his salty manhood juice HAHA. STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everytime I view this old stuff I read that Family Guy did a parody of this and that. Obviously the show isn't original enough to sustain itself on its own material.
One of the Best Coke Comm. I'm looking for the Original "I'd Like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmaony... I'd like to buy the world a Coke and keep it company! Coke comm.
how funny they have the EXACT same commercial, well same script and everything but in spanish and instead of green it's futbol star Maradona. VERY cute concept
Thanks Mean Joe....Go away kid and take that smelly t-shirt with you....Those lyrics were from a R&B song in the 80's poking fun at this commercial. Can't remember the song though.
I also remember a Sesame Street segment in which Gordon (Roscoe Orman) played a football player, and a kid offered him a number 7 big enough for him to stick on his jersey, which he did. And before the kid left, Gordon tossed him his towel, which ironically had a number 7 on IT. Anyone remember that?
If memory serves me well, both Greene and that kid later starred in a TV movie that aired on NBC. And one of the early scenes was similar to this ad. And when Greene tossed his jersey, there was a slow-motion shot of it in mid-air before the kid finally caught it. Not sure I remember the movie's title though.
Thank you so much for this BEST commercial ever...I still remember it vividly. I wish it were a lot clearer...as it was then. But, it's great...as is!
Joe Green was a cool guy: and I like his history. After the Steel Curtain Fame, he coached for the Steelers and then became a scout for them. Today I think he lives in Texas, (or Miami,) and he's a Grampa!
The "Mean" in his nickname "Mean Joe" Green didn't refer to his general nature: just his aggressive playing style on the field. Gotta' love him!

If I had to pick one person to be my hero, I would probably go with Jim Henson. Winston Churchill would be a close second.

It has been ranked #1 by fans every year CBS airs the Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials TV special.

The 1979 Super Bowl, I believe.

Pretty good defense they had, Greene, Lambert, Ham, Blount, Greenwood, White, Edwards, Wagner, Russell.
And then throw in Franco Harris, Bleier, Swann, Stallworth...my goodness what a team.
Even Rex Grossman would have won at least 2 super bowls with that team, maybe 3 or 4.
