It goes up to 150MILES not km/h ;) On top of that, this is an ELECTRIC car and it isn't fully developed to its full potential. Would this be an ideal vehicle for cross-country driving? Gets 244 miles per charge but how would you be able to charge it while you're on the road and how much electricity does it costs to charge the battery?
@StrayDogStrut Ok, this question is too frequent. If you're planning a long trip, take a train it's easier but still. Fast chargers are quite cheap to set up, it can charge a Tesla from FLAT to 80-90% in 30 minuets approximately, cost can be a €5 or €7 for a 750v charge which is alot. Perfect to charge over a meal. Staying in a motel it can charge 15hrs from FLAT in the US and Japan with 110v socket for €3.60. Batteries are rarely flat when plugged in so charging time will be significantly less.
@StrayDogStrut - I've ridden in one of these before and I can assure you charging it would be the least of your worries on a cross-country trip. The car is very small and not very comfortable for a long trip. Still cool, though.

The reality is under the business, after the FED incentive and MACRS deprication we spend 160k$ for the PV installed + 130K$ for the car= 290. we get ten years of driving $4833 month We own everything 100%
Fact:DC to DC charging from Solar Panels has its own unique math. Where you live, the weather and the storage (dc)batteries or AC grid will determine the yield per day. With a big system 50KWdc, the cost before Fed tax incentives is less than $4.75 per watt installed, 237K$ US. SO, 130K for the CAR plus Tax Insurance etc..327K $ US.
With a ten year lifespan on the batteries, Some repairs are expected... lets say $ 345K US+ interest over ten years...for a total of 5,750 per month plus interest!

I really like what Tesla is doing. If you do crunch those numbers, be sure to subtract the cost of 10 yrs worth of normal batteries, oil changes, spark plugs, tune-ups, air filters, fuel filters, transmission maintenance, powertrain repairs, alternators, exhaust replacements, etc, etc.

I have run the math for PV Tesla direct: in Montreal for 50kw solar system in a field mount, best panels seasonably tilted we get; 83,966kwh annually, Willimington Del. 92,961, Chicago 88,422, Boulder 113,520, Austin, 102,799, Atlanta 80,595, Phoenix 126,383, LA,109,345 San Fran 110,298. The reality is under the business, after the FED incentive and MACRS deprication we spend 160k$ for the PV installed + 130K$ for the car= 290. we get ten years of driving $4833 month We own everything 100%

Fact:DC to DC charging from Solar Panels has its own unique math. Where you live, the weather and the storage (dc)batteries or AC grid will determine the yield per day. With a big system 50KWdc, the cost before Fed tax incentives is less than $4.75 per watt installed, 237K$ US. SO, 130K for the CAR plus Tax Insurance etc..327K $ US.
With a ten year lifespan on the batteries, Some repairs are expected... lets say $ 345K US+ interest over ten years...for a total of 5,750 per month plus interest!

@womanizerg Think about maintenance costs. A ferrari tune up can easily cost $3000 per time. And thats just a tune up. Without the tune up it doesn't run like a ferrari should. By that I mean you have to do it pretty often. Plus you need to gas up the ferrari with premium. I don't blame FruityLoopsas. I'd take the tesla too.

I really like what Tesla is doing. I know there are downsides (the electricity still comes from a plant somewhere) but I can't imagine a better way of presenting an alternative, clean-energy to the masses than through a full-blooded, sleek and attractive American sports car.I saw a quote that one of the chief engineers realizes that "people don;t want to sacrifice anything" when they shop for a clean-energy car. He was right and he deserves the hype that his company is getting!
