C'mon regarding not using your arm or elbow, is up to the guitar player's comfort, look at Rusty Cooley he uses a combination of elbow and wrist, what you have to keep in mind more thatn that is to be relaxed, i think one of the most important ways to see if you're having a right and proper technique for yourself is that you can change strings correctly without too much effort and play equally fast on all 6 strings if you can do that and change succesfully from fast picking to slow and viceversa
THE ORIGINAL ROCKHOUSE GUITAR SERIES WAS ON VHS TAPES AND IS TWENTY YEARS OLD. IT IS A SET OF SIX TAPES WHICH I STILL HAVE. I WANT TO THANK JOHN McCARTHY FOR TEACHING ME HOW TO SHRED!
@Smittybob99 At least Mr. Rodgers takes the time to teach people how to play instead of being an arrogant ass who thinks they can play better then everyone. Grow up.
@Smittybob99 Shut up, this is just one exercise from the beginner dvd/video. If you watch the different videos, you will see he is actually a ok instructor. Also I think this video is over 20 years old now lol

yo you guys are great but i have a favor to ask. can you guys please post lessons on through the fire and flames by dragon force, and the solo for iron man.
DF sucks man- Don't learn any of their crap. if your just getting into metal riff's and cool rock'n songs then learn some KillSwitch Engage or some of the more simple Daath riff's. There is plenty of great music out there but DF just doesnt produce any of it.
Good exercise."Don't move your whole arm." Tell that to Vinnie Moore. "You should rest at least one finger on the body of the guitar." Tell that to Paul Gilbert and Shawn Lane. Bottom line, whatever is most comfortable is right for you.
I pick that way (two fingers on the body) but im worried that there are many great players who dont have any fingers on the fretboard, are there any drawbacks from puttin fingers from your right hand on the body of the guitar?
i play with my fingers on the body as well...we do that to let us know where were at with our picking hand...ive worried about the same thing, but just said fuck it, thats the way ive always done it, and ive overcome obstacles about it....plus WE ARE TIGHTER......
@shredmaster47 I also play with my fingers on the body. I don't see how you can play without resting your hand on something, just free floating doesnt seem like it would work.
@krelbar Agreed, to get going really fast in the picking I tend to vibrate my whole arm. I also rest my fingers on the guitar usually pinky and ring finger.

It's funny, he says that it is important to think of it as 1 2 3 4
but he at first struggles with keeping up with the picking!
lol!
don't mind me though, he's really good.
