Before people start to comment retarded questions like "WHERES THE HELMET", These sand rails are built with a strong and wide roll cage that are very safe during a big crash. So to hell with the helmets.

You don't go anywhere the car won't twist up because there is nothing hard to hit its just sand.

Look at it there is nothing to hit their heads on and they are in sand infact your far better off without a helmet ramping it like that simply because the extra wieght on your neck. And I've worn a neck brace they don't stop everything.

yes, i have. and it hurts like hell. no matter how much restraints you have on or how much rollcage you have, you're still going to be violently shakin' about during flip.

what if one of those harnesses breaks from a tiny defect in the material? what if they hit a jump so hard, they either get whiplash or injured spin? there's so many "what ifs" that you would need a helmet.

show me one person who races on the Dakar or Baja that doesn't wear a helmet.

I've rolled one at 40mph over a hill end over end and bent the frame bend and I didn't begin to need a helmet

Dakar and Baja wear helmets, yet they get violently shaken WHILE racing. they've never complained about the extra weight the helmet gives, nor have they complained about neck pain from the weight.

and yes, in an 80-90mph violent end over end roll, a harness will snap if it has a tiny defect. JUST because you build "mini baja" cars for your little college, DOESN'T MEAN you know all about this type of stuff.

and why does it matter if i'm comparing this to Dakar and Baja? they're both offroading either way. and no, Dakar drivers go about the same speed and go across the same terrain as they were doing in this video.

a helmet prevents a LOT of things from happening in a wreck. since the helmet is quite large, it stops your neck from moving too much. therefore, it'll prevent serious neck injuries. note that i said "serious". you'll get a neck injury, but it won't be as serious without a helmet.

i've driven and ridden in plenty to know what types of dangers there are without a helmet, even at low speeds.

this is a SANDRAIL. it is meant to do high speed runs, hence the powerful V8 sitting in the rear. how do you know its not going to do 80mph end over ends? how do you know they're not eBay crap? you never get a close-up of the harnesses.

Dakar does double the speed in some stages during the race, but there are stages where the vehicles have to go over large and elevated terrain. so yes, they do about the same speed they were doing in this sandrail.

One of my friends has a rail buggy thats my experience with that I've ridden+ driven + repaired them. They are friggen awesoem and wearing a helmet is stupid. Last year we built mini baja which isn't much slower since you have a 400lb vehicle with one passenger.  I know what kinda straps those are because that was part of our requirements.

We actually were expected to go over piles of logs + fall off 5 and 6 foot concrete ledges and we did it all full throttle.

Dakar doubles the speed in the desert they easily do 130mph in the dessert in much heavier vehicles meaning any impact is far greater because you are multiplying not adding.

Even if they do 80mph and Dakar does 100mph there is no comparison in impact force. even if the wieght was the same.

The kind of straps they are using in this rail buggy cost $150 a piece atleast where I shopped I know wtf I'm looking at. Ebay look like crappy weak little straps they are this wide/thick

Your comparing Dakar or Baja which travel at a much higher speed and have special made safety equipment tailored to the individual drivers.

And how is a helmet going to prevent either whiplash or injured spin? Thats what a proper seat and seatbelt prevent. Besides that the way the suspension is set and the vehicle is so light thats not really a worry.

i didnt mean to make a fat arguement about the weakness of youngsters nowadays. btw, elmo, i love sarcasm, that stuff gets old quicker that rabbits reproduce. anyway, the point is, personal responsibility...... a person should know when and when not to wear a helmet. if safety was the concern then EVERYONE should walk around with a helmet on ALL THE TIME because you never know when you could get hit by a car or slip and fall and hit your head.
