I loved my '82 C70, I picked it over my '82 CB750F all of the time. FUN bike, and beautiful too. Classy, fun to ride with my Honey on the back. Takes a lot of balls to ride a bike like this to it's limits, by which I mean cat-walks, jumps, weaving in free-way traffic, etc. Bulletproof engine. When I got mine, I had it for years before I realized I had to change the oil! And I rode it probably a 100km a day for that entire time, broken speedo then so I dunno how far, but tens of thousands of Kms
@SoyBoySigh Exactly. All we can do is simply pity those of a close-minded nature who choose to look down on the bike instead of just riding it and finding out how much fun it is for themselves.
Then again, maybe it's better they don't find out. ;)
@lucky51762 What money? Who's got money? Not me. And according to you, I have no brains, either. So it's a good thing there's life experts like you around to show us all how to live, eh? Lol!
Just think how much money you are keeping out of the hands of DIRTY, GRUBBY oil and insurance companies, not to mention auto manufacturers as well as auto parts suppliers. A Cub costs about 3 cents per mile to run, while a car, with all it's peripheral expenses is EASILLY in the 30 to 50 cent per mile range. Nice bike...
I loved my Honda -a 72 and was mint, crashed it into a dirt pile, still ran , bent the shifter, fr. forks and still sold it for 1045.00! Bought an ST90 and now it belongs to my daughter, Inow just purchased a 78 CT90 and will ride that 'til I die- these are the best bikes in the world
@hiyadroogs yeah and it PISSES ME OFF how they stopped selling them here! i instead we get the ruckus and metropolitan. WTF???? why not sell this in the wave version? it's a bit more modern but has the same bulletproof principles?
@EpiDemic117 They sell em' , just not under the Honda name. From what I have read. The same company that originally built the Cub for Honda is building them (I think in Taiwan) and exporting them to the US under the brand name of SYM and model name Symba. Same exact bike...
@umaxen01 I'm afraid you are mistaken. Honda does not have any company besides Honda make their signature product, The Super Cub. The SYM is a Taiwanese knock-off. A good bike from what I hear, but not a Honda, not made by Honda, not made with any Honda parts or anything to do with Honda. Trust me, it is NOT the exact same bike. Not even close. But, still it's not a bad bike and if that's all you can get, go for it. There is only one Honda Super Cub, though.
@humbleradio the SuperCub is no longer made by Honda from what I've read, they sold the design to SYM, which released it in the US in 2009 as the SYMBA, keeping the retro design but making some modifications such as telescopic front suspension
@EpiDemic117 Good question. The Wave is not bulletproof like the Cub. The Super Cub was and is designed and marketed as a 'Business Bike' by Honda. Not a leisure bike, not a mini bike, not a sport bike, not an off road bike and definitely not a scooter. It is designed to withstand the rigors of the merciless delivery service all over Japan carrying heavy loads of newspapers, noodles, etc. and to be fitted with an assortment of carrier type contraptions which are all very heavy and cumbersome.
@humbleradio well i think the wave is even more durable. It uses steel tube frames instead of stamped sheetmetal. The old cub reminds me alot of the AK47.
@EpiDemic117 Well, actually, tubular frame or not, waves don't last very long here in Tokyo. It's not unusual to see Cubs with 50k + on their odometers doing the same work they were doing when new. And usually with the same chain, rims, drive train, and everything else original, except maybe tires - and sometimes even those, too. Waves rarely make it half that long before they're junked. And almost never driven as carelessly or in all kinds of weather as Cubs are.
@humbleradio the wave has the SAME engine as the cub. only slightly more updated. it's pretty much the SAME thing, how are you gonna tell me that when it is. the newer cubs and waves now have fuel injection and alot of them do have over 100k miles on them. Even if the break before that. they are very simple engines to repair. Takes less than a day to break one down and rebuild it.
Honda released new Cub with 110cc motor and she has a round head lamp. 8.2 ps at 7500 rpm. 0.86 kgf-m at 5500. Injection motor achieves 66.2 km/L. And more. Honda has so called "110 professional model" which comes with rigid front and rear carriers with a big front basket behind the low-mounted head lamp on the front and rear 14" wheels. Mates, rush to Tokyo and grab one of them!
I don't usually warn people about other sites, but since this involves the Super Cub I had to make an exception.
Here's my advice: Avoid ScooterNews. If you are looking for accurate info about the Cub ( and I have to assume other bikes as well) Stay away from ScooterNews. He gets it wrong and then deletes opposing views. Well, it's really my fault, since I should have known better from the start when I saw he was calling the Cub a scooter. Gotta stick up for the Little Honda!
Japan, it's a Super Cub "Street" model that I customized. You can see how it looked originally at Wikipedia under Super Cub. The yellow one there is the very same bike.
Whoops. Also, green too. Bourguignor54 is tokyodo still selling this same type? Because I've seen a newer type, which I don't care for as much, being sold online.
Cool! Actually, if you like, you can go to my site linked above (i think?), there you can see my email and post the pics if you like. I try not to put emails on YT, due to the marked increase in spambot activity here.
Thanks. UMG has identified the rights to Look of Love by Dusty Springfield, but are allowing it to stay up with the addition of advertisements. Ah, capitalism. Gotta love it. I wonder if Dusty would mind?
Yes, my fellow 2-wheeled rider in Japan (I'm in Chiba), it would be lovely if you could tell me about that tank or storage case forward of your seat. Aftermarket? Honda accessory? In any case it adds a touch of classic elegance to that bike. I'm thinking of getting one; loads of fun, as I understand. A few summers ago I met a couple of university students who were touring Hokkaido with a pair of Super Cubs. Not surprisingly, no problems to report.
A shop in Tokyo called Tokyodo has all the stuff for Honda Cubs...that's where that 'storage tank' comes from (11,000 JPY). Thay also have seat, Triumph-like mufflers, white-wall tires...name it, they've got it. And they have a website too!
Be advised, their markup is a bit high. Most of their stuff comes from SE Asia. And is not Honda OEM. But, other than that, they are nice folks, family business, and I recommend them for some things. But Honda itself can supply you with all that the Cub ever came with. So, check out the Honda site, too. Also, there is a chap on honda 70 passport yahoo group that runs a business from SE Asia. He's very reliable and trustworthy.
Cool! There were those guys who went from Alaska all the way down to South America in two 50s. But upgraded them to 90 engines. (good idea) and large boxy extra fuel cells. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to take a very long journey on a cub. I love them dearly (obviously), but they are not designed for comfort over long periods. Made for hopping on quickly, getting off quickly, zipping around neighborhoods, city blocks, etc.
The posture position of the rider is not conducive to long periods of constant riding. Lower back issues, leg muscle fatigue, etc. For longer rides, the pegs would have to be moved forward a bit, a small back support added to the seat (the sport seat in Cubra's have this kind of seat, very nice) and of course, higher displacement and/or a 4th gear (especially for the 50)
@birdman404 Yes, I have no doubt of that. After one hour of consecutive riding, I need a rest for my legs and butt. And I know how to ride in order to reduce fatigue, but still the measurements of the bike were not designed for long periods but lots of stop and go, short trips.
The longest I've gone is about 200 miles in one trip. My 2004 (seen above) has 20k on it now. That's a lot, a heck of a lot, for a little bike that has never seen the highway! ;)
This song: I tried the Diana Krall, ysabellabrave, ABC, Ronld Isley/Burt Bacharach versions of this song out and none of them did it for me. The ysabellabrave recording sounded like it was made in the spider hole they found Saddam Hussein hiding out in. Very bad quality. It is what it is. That's all it ever is.
