There is a lot that can be cut. It just takes balls to do it. Medicare and social security need to go. Then, we can cut out Dept of Ag, Dept of Energy, and gut the Dept of the Interior. We can eliminate duplicity in every single facet of government, and cut spending 75%. Even if tax receipts fell 25% in that same time, we'd still make progress on paying the debt, mathematically.It's possible, just takes balls.
@grlockett - If we cut everything else, we will not need to cut defense. Defense is only 23% of the budget. Social Security is larger. Medicare is larger. I am not opposed to going after waste, fraud, and abuse in the military, and the renegotiation of contracts with defense contractors. We can cut back some there.
However, the real cuts need to be elsewhere as the deficit is twice the size of the military budget.

Third, the Department of Energy has failed to meet its goal. The Dept of Agriculture has become corporate welfare for large-scale corporate farms. The Dept of the Interior has overstepped its scope. The dept of ed has failed to meet its objective. These programs either need the axe, or privatization.
@goldenthoth (2) If you took all these programs and gave tax cuts to account for 75% of these budgets, it would be an injection of over 1.5 trillion into the economy. This would be a non-keynesian, non-corporatist injection that would create bottom-up results. It would, at minimum, cut unemployment in half. Assuming 8% growth per year, the return would approach 20 trillion in economic benefit by the year 2020.

Maybe because poor - middle class families pay their fair share of the tax burden relative to their incomes but rich people get to have cuts because the number amount they pay is higher but relatively smaller in percentage to their overall income? Maybe because they see nothing wrong with that? It's disgusting, poor- middle class families are starving and yet they pay their fair share still. Even in this recession the rich are getting richer, DISGUSTING!

They put their kids in private schools, Whereas poor people take advantage of the system any way they can, public school system, welfare, unemployment and now healthcare. Yes, it sure makes for a nice wedge issue now, as it will in another 2 years when it's up for renewal again... but specifically, the CBO has a rule that says that if they wanted to make the BUSH cuts (or any tax changes permanent) that they had to be budget neutral over 10 years.
At the time, Republicans weren't paying for ANY of the legislation they passed (medicare part D anyone?) so it had to be temporary. This fact is missing from most current arguments re: Bust Tax Cuts

I personally believe the premise of our poor times can be pinpointed towards the agendas, decisions, and greed of the rich. Not too long ago, just a few decades the amount of money the rich held is not nearly what they own now. The proportion of wealth was distributed much fairly than what it is today.

There is a lot that can be cut. It just takes balls to do it. Medicare and social security need to go. Then, we can cut out Dept of Ag, Dept of Energy, and gut the Dept of the Interior. We can eliminate duplicity in every single facet of government, and cut spending 75%. Even if tax receipts fell 25% in that same time, we'd still make progress on paying the debt, mathematically.It's possible, just takes balls.

@grlockett - If we cut everything else, we will not need to cut defense. Defense is only 23% of the budget. Social Security is larger. Medicare is larger. I am not opposed to going after waste, fraud, and abuse in the military, and the renegotiation of contracts with defense contractors. We can cut back some there.
However, the real cuts need to be elsewhere as the deficit is twice the size of the military budget.

The dept of ed has failed to meet its objective. These programs either need the axe, or privatization.

This would be a non-keynesian, non-corporatist injection that would create bottom-up results. It would, at minimum, cut unemployment in half. Assuming 8% growth per year, the return would approach 20 trillion in economic benefit by the year 2020.

How bout less spending on the military? The 800 billion a year budget is nearly as much as the entire rest of the world combined (23 of the top 25 armies are allied with the US). The empire is where the real out of control spending lies, but the monopolized media won't talk about that.
And yes, corporations create jobs, but unfortunately those jobs are in the 3rd world exploiting the poorest people on the planet because the government stopped regulating business and trade.

You do realize that the corporations are the reason why the middle class is failing? Why would a corporation pay American workers when they can outsource their jobs to China for a few cents? We have this nonpartisan system where people get fairly taxed relatively to what they earn, why should families who earn less have to pay more in taxes in terms of how much they make? Your other examples are also inaccurate, but let me ask this: When was the last time Obama lied about nukes so he could invade sovereign nation?

Maybe because poor - middle class families pay their fair share of the tax burden relative to their incomes but rich people get to have cuts because the number amount they pay is higher but relatively smaller in percentage to their overall income?
