This is one heck of a dance. hehe... my mom used to say, one must be graceful & always smile. & to add a note to Saiaopinoi's previous answer, yes, prominent ones are the first on queue so to speak.

Thanks for posting this video Saiaopinoi. Calbayognon ak & nalilipay an pagkita kay nahinumdom ak pag patron sa amon. Bihira nala liwat yna makauli. Damo nga salamat!

  • Hello po...

    If I'm not mistaken,

    you're also the one who

    danced Singkil,

    right?

    Nice folk dance.

  • Kuratsa is a very popular courtship dance! Whenever there is a fiesta or any occassion in our barrio, pirmi jud ni sayawon samga tigulang.

  • Saiaopinoi, i have a question why carinosa is the Philippine's nat'l dance. ans. pls.

  • Yes it is starting 1992, it replaced the once popular tinikling.

  • maganda xa...^^,

  • OK and mga steps. Kulang lang magandang background like the sea, the mountain, the rich view of samar. Buti di rin nahihilo mga mananayaw. Kungrats

  • . . kncha bisaya dri? ? tubag dayun! !

  • same lang ito sila sa GALYO?

  • The Galyo dance youare referring to must be the one from Pangasinan. The "motive",I should say,is lot similar. The music of Galyo is 2/4. Galyo is actually gallo is Spanish which means 'rooster' or 'cockerel '. There is another Layte dance called "Gallo de Jerez", which is a mazurka.

  • Libertad Villanueva Fajardo is from Bago City, Negros Occidental.

  • This is one thing that we should be proud of as a Filipino. Wala nang ibang ganyan sa Asya. Tayo lang.

  • No idea.

  • I never really realized this but was the Phillipines a Spanish colony at some time as this sure looks spanish or mexican.

  • yes, 333 years of spanish colonialism!

  • . . 333? ? are u counting? ?

  • Actually its a very basic knowledge. I dont understand why people make wrong figures. Isnt that easy to memorize?

  • what are filipino folk dances with 3/4 time signature?

  • Mahaba ang listahan, nakakapagod kaya mag-type.

  • Good One ! I suggest you also link this to DynamycDesi - you can win an award for your talent.

  • I'm Jerby Santo an indie Waray musician. I'm making an indie waray album, hopefully you could link me up with our fellow Warays anywhere in the world. I have some songs in my account please check it out and please spread the word if you like it. Thank you.

Peace, Love and Punk Rock from Waray Nation, Philippines!

Maupay nga Bag-o nga Tuig ha imo ngan hit im pamilya,

  • Ang akong nanay sauna maayo kaayong mosayaw aning tukara. Hayyyy maayo unta to ug buhi pa siya hangtud karon!!!

  • Maayo lagi.

  • Kuratsa is one of the best Filipino folk dance including the music...thanks for sharing!!

  • paguli ko sa calbayog, samar yana nga new year, i will be dancing kuratsa again.. hehe.. kinahanglan may balon pan gala...

  • Sige hala, upaya na la an imo baga pagsayaw. Maupay it pagsayaw nga sugad hit nakisas o sino napasikat! Agidaw, pati lugud ako nahihidlaw pagsayaw hini nga Kuratsa. Pag-andami baya iton.

  • hahahaha I used to dance this Kuratsa in high school until my college days the bayanihan version mejo mabilis ang tempo...

  • I can still remember last year when we danced Kuratsa in our Field Demonstration Day. It was just a bit disappointing to see that this dance have different steps from what our instructor told us. Does this dance have any other versions or steps? And ... when we danced it we had almost 25+ pairs. But still, it's a great dance!

  • That's one "out-of-the-box" performance. Pero, one thing is certain: Waray people dance it really as an extemporaneous "amenudo"; that, is "couple dance". Thus, only one pair really perform it in its original context. A recent version of the dance is "Kuratsa kanan Kadam-an" performed by many pairs simply as a "presentation".

  • Hay,nahinumnum la ako pag patron na..kaupay la..thanks to sharing with us..god bless

  • dance of all samarnon... im proud of being a norte samarnon.. magkasarayo kita ngatanan..

  • oi...bigyan mo nman ako ng dance steps nto....

kailangan ko tlaga pra sa presentation nmn....

    ty...

    luv it! wehehehe...

  • No, you're wrong. At first it looks as though that it's easier than our national folk dance, but if you're gonna learn it, you'll be dizzy. The second part of the dance is hard to do. Well, Cariñosa is also hard too, but I think it's really a bit prettier than Kuratsa.

  • KAPAREHAS pala ng SINAKIKI yung STeps NITONG KURATSA! try nyu PANOORIN yung SINAKIKI at LA SIMPLICA kung ano mas magaganda....

  • The Sinakiki also came from Samar introduced to the Bicolanos. BTW,it is also called Sinisiki. The second dance you're referring to must be La Simpatica, not La Simplica.

  • wa ko ganahi..... dili nindot

  • My favorite hahahhah

  • marisyo pag kinitaon..bagan mga tamsi.lol

  • Hello, can you tell me where I can buy the video and music of this version of Kuratsa? please......

  • At any record bar near you. Please ask for this video in their Aquarius Records section.

  • whew..!!! kaupay ig-sayaw lol

    hehe

  • Every Catbaloganon fiesta my family perform the kuratsa and then we put dollar bills in the basket in the middle of the dance stage.....

And everytime I go back to Daram, Samar they force me to dance the Kuradang or kuratsa like an idiot so I can put money in the basket. LOL

Someday I will learn that Bird Dance... LOL

  • I don't think the folk's insistence is meant to make you look IDIOT. The prominent ones are first accorded with the dance because only ONE couple can dance the Kuratsa because it is of the amenudo-type of dance. Commoners are relegated to dancing the Jota or the balse. Do you still remember the Kuradang song? There is is this beautiful line accorded to visitors: "...Ginhahangyo hini an ngatanan, LABI NA an balikbayan. Sayaw nga Kuradang sikat han mga tigurang."

  • I accidentally "removed" you good message about the 5 peso worth of ribbon for the balse. And you story about the Kuradang dance.

Im sleepy. My apologies. Ay' pag-iisug dida.

  • its fine... get some rest u need ur strength so u can keep uploading them great videos.....

  • Damo na la nga salamat. Maupay nga nagkakasinabot kita nga duha.

  • oh god i love this song i remember my grandad who pass away 4 years ago every time there is a fiesta in our brgy. he dance this i miss you a lot grand dad R I p dako nga salamat han nag post hini blees you,,,

  • I like the music. It remember me the significant affairs in our town at Palompon, Leyte, Philippines, most especially during our town fiesta and other spcial occassions.

  • This dance remind me of my vacations in San Jose Northern Samar. Fun! you have to get ready with your money (bills) though! he he! thanks for all the dances you've posted.

  • The money bills you're referring to is of course the one called "gala". During weddings those bills are pasted securely into one long piece and is pinned or draped on the dancing bride an groom. That long piece of bills are called "isarablay" or "igpiringkit" in Eastern Samar.

  • It is also given in fiesta or other special occasions. Thats what we do every year with the Catbaloganon and Villarial fiesta and also the Palo fiesta.....

  • Try typing "Leyte Dance Theatre" in You Tube search bar. Those guys are from Leyte and Samar. Many folk dances originated there. Enjoy the dance.

  • I know that group of MR JESS DE PAZ. Their genre is NOT folk dance. BUT 'dance theater'. It is their choice to make folk-dance based choreo. Have you noticed their pointees and other ballet styles?

  • that's a nice folk dance!!!i have a question does anyone know the title of the music of that dance?i really need it ^-^ Thank You!!

  • It is also entitled Kuratsa. Modern recordings of this version were sung by famous Waray singer Joseph Uy. That's the version used in many dance events in Samar and Leyte.

  • nako po..remember the old times again..ang sarap ng feeling to cherish those beautiful back home..I miss Philippines..I am glad that there are people like you uploaded dances like this. Was home 2 yrs ago and it was great ..

  • Gracias canariolp69.

  • Traduccion:

Damo nga salamat canariol69. An Pilipinas lugar nga daw tuptup an yaman han kultura nga kinatsila . Mahinkikit-an an kinatsila nga tapun ha pagkaun, tuluohan, mga sining, mga kabatasanan, ug anopa sayaw!

  • desde las islas canarias en ESPAÑA¡¡viva la herencia cultural HISPANO-MEXICANA EN FILIPINAS¡ESTA DANZA ES DE ORIGEN HISPANO¡¡MANTENGAN EL IDIOMA ESPAÑOL EN FILIPINAS¡¡SALUDOS HERMANOS FILIPINOS

  • muchas gracias canariolp69.

  • I believe The Canaries is a little damp from the Mediterranean breeze.

  • I don't quite understand what you are saying but if its good, Thank you! Hay 333 and more lenguajes que nosotros tenemos!

  • nice dance..do u have binasuan??or banga?

  • ano an pinagkaiba han kuratsa mayor ngan han kuratsa menur?

  • The music used to accompany the kuratsa determines whether it is mayor or a menor. Those played in a 'minor key' are the menor and the ones in 'major keys' are the mayor. It so happened the many versions of the Kuratsa Menor are a little slower than the mayor.

  • maupay nga panhingandoy

    mahusay nga production

  • This is a nice dance. I've always liked the tinikling the best, but I love this as well. My wife tells me of learning this dance in high school. Me, being American, we have no "native" dances, short of what the native Americans do. So everything is borrowed from all the other cultures that make our country.

  • napapaluha ako kasi my Lola used to dance kuratsa when she was alive. maliit pa ako noon pag dumadalo kami ng kasal o fiesta.

  • ang galing naman...

  • sarap maging pilipino...

  • sa bisayas yong kuratsa...sa leyte mostly

  • There are more versions of the Kuratsa in Panay than in Leyte. However, the Samar-Leyte region is the "home " of the Kuratsa according to Ramon Obusan. Beautiful Panay Kuratsa are the K. Zarraga, K. Hamtic, K. Culasi and K. Pandan.

  • alam niyo I am so happy to see this video kasi, noong 2004, umuwi ako doon sa leyte pinasayaw nila akong kuratsa, naku hindi ako marunong masyado pero ok lang. Appreciated kita.

  • Mas Malanding sumayaw 'yung lalake, Baka Bakla...

  • He hehe. Hmmm parang...

  • That's so cute!! I really like this!!!
