I don't think they even export their best ERA (reactive armor) for export tanks. In addition Egypt recieves the finest training from the U.S. military who has proven many times capable of defeating armies using Russian equipment and Russian tactics. A mix of Western & Eastern military technologies is actually very smart as they become much harder to defeat with ECM

And this was not "take anthing back", this was an attempt to encircle the Second Army. The 3rd Army's encirclement seems to have been victory enough, though.

In the 1973 war Egypt wanted to get back the Sinai peninsula and more and the Syrians wanted to get back the Golan heights and more from Israel who captured these territories in the 6 day war. In addition Egypt would lose all American military support (key components of the egyptian made M1A1 tanks and other US designed vehicles are made in the US). @MultiElkoko The Russian export weapons are also not the latest systems with the most advanced ECM. They save that for themselves. I don't think they even export their best ERA (reactive armor) for export tanks. In addition Egypt recieves the finest training from the U.S. military who has proven many times capable of defeating armies using Russian equipment and Russian tactics. A mix of Western & Eastern military technologies is actually very smart as they become much harder to defeat with ECM

The Egyptian Army was FULLY Russian equipment and included very modern SAM systems that Egypt could NOT have trained themselves on even if they had wanted to. Algerian Airforce? The Mig-29, SU-30, and Su-24 are all nice planes, but they are export models. Even the US does not export it's best technology. But yes, the threat of a jet/tank parts embargo is a strong deterant to war with Israel.

@MultiElkoko Israel would not be harmed much from radioactive fallout following the usage of Nuclear weapons. They would get some radiation but relatively minor. Also, every Israeli believes that they will be slaughtered by Arab forces. So they believe that they have nothing to lose by a massive nuclear strike if they are being overrun. There would also be NO doubt that America would quickly enter the war to drive out any invader (ask Saddam. Oh he's dead). Russia no-longer protects Egypt.

@wigon look it seems like ur information isnt true the only time soviet union threatned to send troops to egypt was in 1956 when israel ,britain ,france invaded egypt in the same time and eerybody including the usa failed to make them stop what they r doing,, the other thing is that all soviet experts were fired from egypt by a dicicion from president anwar el sadat in the year 1971 and he told them to leave egypt within two weeks from the dicicion

Also like Israel, under the Camp David Accord, Egypt's military is HEAVILY subsidized by America. and for the history, only 1 battlion was at 101 KM from cairo and the rest were in sinai and it was under sharon command...we still had our 3rd army around the capital ( every war there should be an army protecting the capital like in berlin )....and sadat and sadat agreed on peace cuz USA was joining israel war, cuz you cant fight your own war also for late regaining of sinai cuz you had to prepare of your broken army return and take your weapons and destroy wht you built there

We shall admitt that the Egyptian army had had the upper hand in Operation Badr on the 1st 3 days of the war, due to the element of surprise and a good incomplete initial plan (just till the 1st 10 Km to the east of the canal, but by the launching of Operation Gazelle on a week after the course came in favour of Israel as the Israeli army took firm hold till 101 Km from Cairo in Africa while the Egyptian third Army was starving untill it had its supplies from the victorious IDF.

The egyptian army was never pushed back?the IDF went trough a hole in the defence, between the 2nd and 3rd army, There was no battle or defence in that area, IDF broke a ceaseFire and went through undefended land, and took the 3rd army, The Egyptians never fell back :S and SADAT gave israel a choise, Peace or it will all continue, Israel said no, US PRES, asked the knesset to vote, and they accepted, they fell to egyptian demands, and Egypt won all its goals
