The only reason a Unified Korea will exist is if China sees a re-militarized Japan as a threat, and wants to use Korea as a regional counter-weight against the slightest prospect of Japanese militarism in the wake of U.S. decline in East Asia. The only thing can unite Korea is unfortunately the mutual hatred of Japanese by Koreans and Chinese.
Of course Koreans will unite and pull it through. Why? Because they have a solid built foundation of who they are as a people. They take pride in their identity and culture.
let me just tell you something you dont understand. The first thing getting in the way of reunification is the U.S.A , the LEADERS of North Korea do wants reunification, of course you say "democratic" as in Puppet states of the U.S.A ( south korea ) which in no way North Korea give in to white leaders.
Not Seoul, I think Panmunjom should be the capital and it should be renamed Arirang City. And their anthem should be the Arirang. Seriously listen to it, its really beautiful!!
I just dont see it happening. I truly love your ideas but unification would come at too high of a cost. The U.S. would have to be involved becuase of pressure for obvious reasons such as economic and military interests. Japan and China would also keep pressure on the US so they can protect their interests. War would breakout and I for one just dont think its worth a world war 3.
Kim Jung Eun, just like his father, has enjoyed a life of luxury in which he's been treated practically as the son of a god- all while literally millions of his countrymen are dying. And he probably realizes, just as his father did, that his life of luxury, alongside with his status as a supposedly "great" leader, is almost completely dependant on the maintenance of the current totalitarian system. I wouldn't expect Kim Jung Eun to make "reforms",he probably knows this would be political suicide
@TheTollundWoman Why not? He's also enjoyed a Western education in Switzerland. To be against unification is to be against the Korean people. Look at the comments on here by Koreans. It's clear; they want unification, and so do I. Don't you?
Kim Jung Eun and the Communist regime IS against the Korean people. Thats exactly why they will do everything in their power to prevent even the slightest reforms or liberalization.
I strongly want reunification and support it 100%. And I believe the sole obstacle to reunification is the continuation of the repressive, murderous regime in the north.
He enjoyed a "western education" (and one of the most luxurious standards of living in history) while millions of his countrymen died from starvation and were murdered in concentration camps. What incentive could he possibly have for allowing reforms, when his own life of luxury, and probably his very survival as well (considering the fates of other deposed dictators like Mussolini and Ceacescu) depends on the continuation of a totalitarian system?
I like your suggestions, but we already know the best solution to unification should be something like them. The problem is, it's only possible if NK truly wishes for unification under peaceful means, and accepts them.
Myung Bak, when he became president, already promised to NK that, if NK ends their nuclear research and works to promote peace, SK would give major economic aids to NK.
The previous, liberal presidents: Noh Moo Hyun and Kim Dae Jung, were too tolerant, soft with their policy against North Korea and followed too many of the North's demands. NK used the food supplies they got from SK to finance nuclear weapon research. They had no idea what NK was capable of and acted like "sheep".
In SK, the liberal party is widely trash-talked for their incompetency in this matter. It seems the conservative party's policy against NK will be reigning supreme for many more years.
I can see what you mean by Lee Myung Bak's strategy for unification isn't working very well, but there's no other alternative, and I don't count on the possibility that Kim Jung Eun might have sympathy for his people, starting reforms.
Recently, I heard extravagantly magnificent, expensive mansions, (or should I say "palaces") were built for Jung Eun, although it's unclear whether they were commissioned by Jung Eun himself.
great speech man. you know exactly the situation of n/s korea. whole world it has been changing for good. north korea politic n people never change. i thinks first things need to transformation NK. then people need to understanding each other want to unification for good and big new korea. but i think need a lot's of time for kimchi people . maybe united tomorrow if all the people want it. i believe everything is possible and i hope not to fighting any more. let's make it happen.
china is using n-korea as a buffer area against American influence
I admit S-korea is a satellite of USA and N-korea is a satellite of china
but USA helped S-korea to develope economy and taught S-korea democracy, so S-korea is in the middle of becoming developed country and S-koreas're enjoying high living-standard
but WHAT DIRTY CHINESE DID TO N-KOREA?
they erected puppet regime in N-korea and let the regime abuse and brainwash N-koreans
Aren't the south korea US bases there in the event that north korea were to attack south korea? A peace treaty was never signed, just an armistice. This is a recognition that south korea and north korea do not want to recognize each other as separate member states nor do they want to get tied up with the UN and be limited in any way. It looks like to me that they want unification, but they're too divided. I think the problem lies squarely on china, russia, japan and US.
Another thing that reunification requires is weakening the U.S. & other wealthy, Western powers, so they can't stop a united Korea from becoming a rich, powerful influence in the Far East, which blocks the west from being that rich, powerful influence in the region.
I like this video BundangBear....I hereby nominate you to lead the peace treaties and United Nations talks for the unification of North and South Korea.
I am your peoples too BundangBear and I know you are very busy but could you sub me pleaaase
It'll be hard for teens, cause it'll be an accent war. South accent vs North accent, it'll be a whole nother war lol. Already problems between Daegu and Seoul, there was a fight during my school's graduation trip, one of my friends got in with a Seoul kid.
1973, Korean Unification will be done gradually step by step under Democratic system from South Korea and USA. If massive North Koreans flood Manchuria. Well manchuria was part of Korea anyway China cannot do anything about it. Geographically and culturally Korean peninsula and manchuria is connected along before China ever knew manchuria existed Koreans have been living in that land along before han-chinese began to settle. Don't worry too much about what China thinks.
@MultiKoreanPride Yes, good points. There are still millions of koreans living in China. "Korean is one of the 56 "official" recognized ethnicities of China.
Did you see the latest Wikileaks? It blows your theory that the USA and Chinas wants to keep Korea separated out of the water. Chinese officials are prepared to accept Korean reunification under South Korean leadership. They estimated they could cope with an influx of 300,000 North Korean refugees in the event of instability on the peninsula. The United States and South Korea are planning to reunite the two Koreas, should the North ultimately collapse.
@Tamar1973 Yes, I was also saying China thinks of NK as an embarrassment, which came out in WikiLeaks, too, but you are right, they want unification, too, according to WL. You still think the US wants unification? What about the US bases?
would do well in economy. even though the us knows unification from sk will be beneficial to sk, however the us tries to make sk closer to them ailenating from nk. I see there might be a certain reason behind that why the us still backs up south korea since korean war. if you agree what do you the reason whould be?
@Dreamexplorer92 Yes, the US wants to maintain SK as a strong ally so they can keep US bases there as a balance to perceived Chinese power in the region.
I have a question... I know why the US helped south korea in the korean war back in 1950. For barring korea from becoming a communist country. but now i do not really understand or can not figure out the reason why the US still now try to help South Korea in the field of miltary and keep good relationship in economic issues such as FTA, while as you said 4 of 6party talks including the US have no interest in Unification of Korea. I mean the US is way too anti-north korea and support South korea
@deadmonkeytooth I'm Korean-American, I don't speak Korean, I've never been to Korea, but it seems very unnatural to have a North and South. What other peoples are split like this? NO ONE. SHAME ON ANYONE OPPOSED TO UNIFICATION. And I don't buy the BS the US media puts out about the North being so evil. I love Korean culture, the food, the old instrument,s but I'm not so sure I even like modern Korea. YOU LOST YOUR WAY!
@BroGuyDude@bundangbear BE CAREFUL BEAR THIS GUY JUST WANTS YOUR INFO TO STALK YOU DON'T TELL HIM YEAR ANYTHING YOU ALREADY TOLD HIM TOO MUCH PLEASE BE CAREFUL SIR!
@BroGuyDude Why do you need to know what year? Bear's supporters are watching you closely. You're trying to get his personal information. This is an old trick.
@deadmonkeytooth But won't this implosion ultimately result in a greater, unplanned, unmanageable deluge of NK refugees to SK, as I speak of in this vid?
@deadmonkeytooth That looks like support for the 한나라 party in general. 대통합민주 party looks closer to 37% on Daum.
However, we must remember threats of war raise any leader's approval. Tell me what 2MB's approval was in 2008? 23% Am I right?
I talk to a wide variety of Koreans--businessmen, a pharmacist, a KAL stewardess, a Won Buddhist monk, and a housewife, and only the housewife favors 2MB.
@deadmonkeytooth 감사합니다 I'm not Korean; perhaps you have a better sense of the issue, but I'm just summarizing what real Koreans (in Korea) I deal with every day think. 2MB's support is very low. You must agree with that, right?
Your brother example doesn't seem to fit, as there are more variables: brother, father, mother, kids, when this issue involves only TWO--NK and SK.
I'm not here to troll or debate for kicks. I have a genuine love of Korea. So, your solution is just to attack NK?
@deadmonkeytooth Making life a living hell for any group of people is pure evil. You do realize that by saying this, you're coming across as a very evil person, just like 2MB, right??
That was a really good video. I see that you are using a different reunification model, From the German West and East reunification plan, the Germans moved way too fast and they even said that themselves. I know I visited Germany, Munich and Berlin last year. And that was one of my main questions to the people that I met. Even today 20 years later the German people are still getting used to being one country. Like you say, it takes time. Better to slowly open the doors, Than smash them down.
@TheTruePooka The actual NK and SK people get the biggest benefit, not the ruling elite of either country, and none of the nations involved in the 6 party talks hoax.
@nmssis This strong hand controls all world governments, doesn't it? Each government has its real power behind the scenes and some puppet feigning leadership, right?
@deadmonkeytooth I read Korean. All those sources are mainstream media outlets--Paran, Daum, Nate, Naver, MBC. I don't doubt that the media is pumping that story out; I still don't believe its validity.
So what's the solution? The status quo? That's only good for foreigners looking to exploit Korea and 2MB looking to exploit his own people and further the 한나라당
Let me ask you, are you a 2MB supporter?
Wait 60 years for HIS death? Then HIS son will come to power and it will be the same.
@deadmonkeytooth You are right about KJN. Kim Jong Eun did study in Switzerland, has Western friends, and did travel extensively in Europe under an assumed name. He flies in airplanes. Come on, he's a total break from his father.
What's your source on KJE orchestrating the attacks, please?
No, I don't follow the flawed tautology that the "sins of the father" be passed onto the son, nor "like father, like son." Is it so wrong to be optimistic? Are you against unification?
You, sir, are truely amazing. I am really impressed about your perception and knowledge about my homecountry. Thanks a lot for posting these awesome videos to explain matters to foreigners :)
IT'S SO TRUE BRO!!! Peeps say it's ethnicity, race, BS CRAP LIKE THAT! nO, IT'S human nature, all of us as humans need to grow..Lets face it bro, this fckn country was built on blood, racism and money, go bak to the days of the old testiment, same thing in any origanized civilization..The good thing is, this is only the beginning in R existance, and the peeps that are higher up on the ladder of morality they are going 2 be rewarded in paradise
North Korean Refugees are in South Korea. They are a good indication. Refugees seeking life in S. Korea has increased exponentially past years. They secretly make contact with their families in North Korea through third countries. When the population reaches a threshhold, the need for direct family contact inter Koreas likely and it will eventually open up two koreas down the lines. I bet my two cents.
the big problem is, Humans by their nature (nothing 2 do with race, ethnicity, ect.) are greedy and selffish, and GOVERNMENTS are ran by humans..it's r defect that stems from Adam and Eve, beginning of time..We will fight for property, material objects, land, everything that means NOTHING in the big skim of things..That my dear comrade is the reason this world is a trial for us..Wat we do here, will be judged when our time comes 2 move on..
My question is- why should there actually BE a formation of unification....? Why can't they remain seperated, but north korea openeing their gates to the world; and allowing the south korean citizens to go in and out (and the north koreans to go in and out) the boundaries without needing specific certifications? I mean, similar to the policy of EEU??
@sweentnhot0104 The Korean national mind is stressed over the division. They are truly one people. They see themselves as one. They are historically one, so reunification is their destiny.
@MikeOfKorea I doubt that, I heard many younger- generations in Korea has been developing minds that the unification might not possibly be necessary. The university students I've went with were more disagreeing with that fact that they must be unified. And in university polls, results showed that more people were actually more null towards the subject. Or that's only the younger ones. Because many elder ones truly wish the reunification.
@sweentnhot0104 that's because the young people have been influenced by the media. they don't really know that SK is doomed w/o unification. they can't get jobs as it is. the country is overpopulated and most western world countries still think of Korea as a country in divide, unaware of the great technology and companies that Sk has.. unification is the only for SKoreans like me to go to foreign countries and not get stares and questions "are you from north Korea or south Korean?"
@sweentnhot0104 yea I think for Koreans going abroad one of the most annoying questions ppl ask is about that and "what do you think of NK in general, and KJI their dictator and etc???" esp in Europe they think of us as a country in war, sometimes dangerous to travel to b/c of that... it's all b/c US and even Korea's media are anti-NK and they always post stuff that makes NK so threatening, and don't really post vids about Sk's technology or stuff like that
@sweentnhot0104 i'm just saying generally, there are less asians in Europe than it is in North America, hence they might not have that much exposure to Koreans. Not all people think that way, I know, sorry I did not mean to generalize.
@tokee1234567 It's those ignorant cunts & layabouts who are too lazy to watch news or at least have an insight as to what's going around the world. Why would they want to ask those questions anyway. I wish Korea the best I've went there two times during the summer :D and planning to visit again as an exchange university student haha
@tokee1234567 Yes, when I moved to Japan, everyone in my family strongly supported it and thought I was safe. When I then moved to Bundang, Korea, they thought I was moving into a war zone! Even educated Americans sometimes mistake SK for being dangerous.
@sweentnhot0104 That's a good point. There is a brewing SK national identity that is drifting further and further apart from traditional Korean culture and NK. I'm not sure that's a good thing. What do you think?
@MikeOfKorea They are one people, yes, but what about the 2 million Koreans living north of the Yalu River in China? (They've ALWAYS LIVED THERE AND ALWAYS BEEN KOREAN.) Just curious about what you thought.
@bundangbear That makes me philosophize--> We are a long way as a species from abandoning our "ethnic" groups. I'm a futurist and a globalist. I see no need to protect ethnic or racial divisions. It's a relic of bygone days, bad old days, though there are many who would disagree. North America is struggling through the transition now. Other places will follow in their own time. Man has millennia to go, and I am sure someday we will have given up our need to sanctify these divisions.
@MikeOfKorea Philosophize on! I hear what you're saying, and you have some great ideas, but I still think preserving some aspects of indigenous culture is good for Earth; otherwise, everything will look like a suburban strip of Big Box stores--Erie Blvd. in Syracuse will look just like Tehranno in Seoul. Do you really want that to happen?
@bundangbear Ah, that is cultural! The nice thing about culture is it can transcend ethnicity. Look at us! We behave like Koreans but we're not ethnic Korean! And culture varies a little even within Korea. I bet you there are cultural behaviors in North Korea that would appear odd to South Koreans... I hope we find out. I grieve constantly for the Northern people. And no, I love countrified folk culture. I hate all cities and their boulevards! LOL (not really, but almost)
@MikeOfKorea Speak for yourself; I'm not sure I behave like a Korean. We certainly see aspects of culture transcending ethnicity in people of Jewish heritage, as there's such a wide array of physical features. (I'm of Jewish heritage; do I look it?) Remember, though, this concept runs perpendicular to the traditional East Asian notions of being strongly connected with one's ancestors. How to reconcile this ancestor veneration with your theory of culture transcending ethnicity?
@bundangbear LOL! I guess I don't know how you act off camera, that's true. I guess I was talking more of the social mores we follow when with the Koreans, not our core cultural behavior. Maybe "abandon" ethnicity is a bad word. I've adopted some Korean way of thinking, and they've adopted some of other people's, too. If the whole world does that, we will all become part of each other to a small degree. A greater culture will appear that transcends its parts(?) Good or bad?
@MikeOfKorea You really got me thinking. Is it a greater culture, or just mass culture? Pop culture? Where do we draw the line? IDK. I also believe in the globalization of ideas and concepts to further world knowledge, not when it leads to corporatism run amok that destroys all culture and replaces it with Hollywood back lot made fake culture. And Big Boxes on Erie Blvd. (There's also TWO great Korean markets on Erie Blvd, though, one across from Target and one across from Sam's Club.)
@bundangbear i think those are joseonjoks (Kor immigrants in China, brought there by Japan in colonial times for cheap labour) there are a lot of problems with what to do with them and jae-Il gyopos (Kor immigrants in Japan = zainichi.)
SK won't likely involve them in unification, but they should still support them to preserve their culture/traditions. do you know that NK pays money for NK schools in Japan and help preserve Korean culture there?? SK doesn't do that btw.
@tokee1234567 No, I believe the Koreans in China around the Dandong area are ones that that lived there in the Goguryeo Kingdom, and later in unified Shilla Kingdom, dating to at least 2,000 years ago.
Yes, I'm aware of NK educational ventures in Japan.
@tokee1234567 The Koreans I speak of in China have ancient roots. The Koreans around Dandong lived there in the Goguryeo Kingdom, dating to at least 2,000 years ago, and later in unified Shilla Kingdom, as well as being absorbed into the Tang Dynasty of China, but keeping their ethnicity and language to this day. Dandong, China continues to be a major center of Korean culture. Korean is one of the 56 recognized ethnicities in modern China.
Yes, I'm aware of NK educational ventures in Japan.
@sweentnhot0104 That's an interesting plan, but the countries of the EU SHARE a lot--do you think NK and SK are willing to share that much and remain separate nations?
It's my understanding based on an interview I heard of a Korean-American that was able to visit deep into North Korea, that North Korean society is composed of two strata. Shopping malls and restaurants for a small minority at the top and a vast poor and exploited underclass.
His handlers only showed him what they wanted him to see, but he was able to slip away briefly to see the truth.
My gut feeling is that it will take a near collapse and violent uprising fueled from the outside to unify K.
@citizenkong Sounds a lot like the US in that regard--two strata! Or, at least any 3rd world ally of the US that I've personally visited, like the Philippines or Sri Lanka. I've personally seen more poverty and suffering in the Philippines than on any NK documentary done by Western media.
i agree that the unification will not happen anytime soon- espically with the US meddling around. The US would love for korea to be seperated to keep the bases by what we call ideology plus(starting a war will raise the US $) communisim is dead -but not Corporatism even though the future leader of NK might seem to be the one who will change things to the better for NK. I do not think it will occur due to corporatism. It runs world wide governments today. look at whats happening to Ireland!
as far as I know, NK's been giving all their natural resources to China to maintain their relationship. Doesn't matter. SK relies on technology and other exports anyways. Even if NK is lacking on resources we always welcome our people and land. For the sake of all those crying NK/SK separated families I hope the unification will be done before the end of my generation's time. after 2MB's regime, we'll see what happens bundangbear
SK is running out of land due to its overpopulation and people like me are sick of answering foreigners' questions "are you from the south or the north? what do you think of the recent bombing?" the presence of the continuation of SK and NK conflict hinders SK and Korean's progress b/c it taints their reputation.
NK is stricken with poverty and brainwashed people. the only way to get this thing settled is 1. having Crazy China take it over, which will make a lot of people mad
bundangbear, the towns you've seen on rivers might be for show (fake-made) but yea I agree NK might not be poorer than you think... I mean with a 0.001 chance the media in the entire world that portrayed NK might be false, (b/c esp US and SK media have an extreme anti-NK attitude along with their governmet) and not many people go to NK to tell us what they're really seeing anyways.
but unification is really essential in having a future for Koreans.
@tokee1234567 I agree. Like I said, I've seen poverty so bad in the Philippines and Sri Lanka (NAKED KIDS BEGGING FOR SCRAPS OF FOOD, OLD PEOPLE LEFT TO DIE) that even the poverty I've seen captured in all the documentaries by Western media on North Korea does not compare to what I've seen with my own eyes. And the Philippines is an ally of the US.
2MB just passed a law for having 400 million Korean won for his bodyguards after his presidency is over. the guy's just an idiot who's only interested in his own future and not the people. the 4 crappy river constructions he's doing will take so much money for annual maintenance... with the traps he has set it will make the unification much worse (since the economy will dip more than ever)
@tokee1234567 Yes, his Great Canal plan is a total failure. And remember he's doing it becasue the mouth of the Hangang is too dangerous for shipping. But, it is clearly well south of any disputed line.
@bundangbear of course he is. he's the most biased president I've seen (said that homosexuality is a mental disease, and supports abortion for children with deformities and illneses) and after 2MB came to power, online SK sites have been having ALBAS that get paid 2000won per comment by Han-nara power to track down Minju-dang supporters or Left-wing supporters and call them Commies, or Reds. That has not been very noticeable when No-muhyun the last pres was in power. 2MB supports anti-NK's.
How do you get monetized so f**in FAST?? Unification will be dictated by the international bankers. I know I'm getting tiresome with this but we both know the Money Changers have their hands in everything. People seem to leave them out of the equation. The industrialization of China is totally under the control of private bankers. btw Communism CAN be a democratic Republic with a written Bill of Rights. All we need is pickled cabbage. lol
@BroGuyDude I work as a copy editor for a major South Korean text book publishing house. I have an MFA in Creative Writing from Cornell University. I will gladly make a vid of my degree. Again, when you start making ad hominem attacks like that, it shows your lack of ability to argue, and worse, your lack of maturity.
@TheIrredeemable But nations have unified all the time. Italy was up until the 1860's a mishmash of city-states that unified into one Italy. Germany, too, at that time, unified. Then again after the fall of Communism. Spain unified, as it was also a mix of kingdoms. I don't see why Korea can't do it. But then again, many of those involved ARE war mongers.
Indeed you are right, but given the more recent events. It seems as though all the two nations have in mind is bombarding one another with long range munitions.
In every example you gave there were very strong diplomatic figures whos main interest may not have been peace, but they were at-least able to see the difference peace would make for the nation as a whole.
North and South Korea have these same type of figures, they are just often quickly squelched.
@TheIrredeemable Yes, Garibaldi in Italy, Isabella I and Ferdinand II in Spain, Bismark in Germany, you're right. Could Kim Jong Eun rise to the challenge? It's sad Roh Moo-hyun is dead.
In a closed society like North Korea that type of reason and logic you talk about can not exist as openly as it would in other nations.
NK has one of the largest standing armies on earth, you do not assemble and flaunt an army of that size if the only thing on your mind is to make friends.
@TheIrredeemable But their society is opening. Korean dramas are regularly watched. So is Chinese TV. Have you seen Chinese TV? (It's just like US TV--terrible, but not closed. "Chinese Idol" and their version of "Ugly Betty" have been big hits.) Cell phones are in use.
@bundangbear yes I would say a good one would be a mix of Roman and USA Republic. So that no one man will hold power and the people have the right to veto any unfair law. I also think that there banking system should be controlled by the republic and not privet and that a law that makes interest outlawed.
Along the Yalu the North Koreans put on a show. You don't think North Korea is that backward? Have you seen the pictures of the darkness there at night? They don't even have electricity. They have successive famines, no industry except a military industrial complex. What evidence do you have that a new regime will suddenly capitulate and cooperate with the South? Wishful thinking. The North Koreans are isolated, indoctrinated and controlled, with no access to any outside media.
@disrxt No, that's just not true. They have cell phones and watch South Korean TV dramas. Again, the situation in the Philippines is WORSE, and PI is a US ally. I've spoken with hundreds of North Koreans in Dandong, who speak English well. Quit listening to everything the media says; you're making yourself look like a tape recorder, not a living human. My sources are real experiences with real people; your sources come from a screen.
One prob china won't let go of north Korea. China get money off north Korea.

Phead128 3 months ago
Of course Koreans will unite and pull it through. Why? Because they have a solid built foundation of who they are as a people. They take pride in their identity and culture.

let me just tell you something you dont understand. The first thing getting in the way of reunification is the U.S.A , the LEADERS of North Korea do wants reunification, of course you say "democratic" as in Puppet states of the U.S.A ( south korea ) which in no way North Korea give in to white leaders.

I can see what you mean by Lee Myung Bak's strategy for unification isn't working very well, but there's no other alternative, and I don't count on the possibility that Kim Jung Eun might have sympathy for his people, starting reforms.
Recently, I heard extravagantly magnificent, expensive mansions, (or should I say "palaces") were built for Jung Eun, although it's unclear whether they were commissioned by Jung Eun himself.

china is using n-korea as a buffer area against American influence
I admit S-korea is a satellite of USA and N-korea is a satellite of china
but USA helped S-korea to develope economy and taught S-korea democracy, so S-korea is in the middle of becoming developed country and S-koreas're enjoying high living-standard
but WHAT DIRTY CHINESE DID TO N-KOREA?
they erected puppet regime in N-korea and let the regime abuse and brainwash N-koreans
koreans' tragedy is caused by dirty chinese!

The United States and South Korea are planning to reunite the two Koreas, should the North ultimately collapse.

would do well in economy. even though the us knows unification from sk will be beneficial to sk, however the us tries to make sk closer to them ailenating from nk. I see there might be a certain reason behind that why the us still backs up south korea since korean war. if you agree what do you the reason whould be?
Dreamexplorer92 1 year ago
@Dreamexplorer92 Yes, the US wants to maintain SK as a strong ally so they can keep US bases there as a balance to perceived Chinese power in the region.
bundangbear 1 year ago
I have a question... I know why the US helped south korea in the korean war back in 1950. For barring korea from becoming a communist country. but now i do not really understand or can not figure out the reason why the US still now try to help South Korea in the field of miltary and keep good relationship in economic issues such as FTA, while as you said 4 of 6party talks including the US have no interest in Unification of Korea. I mean the US is way too anti-north korea and support South korea

@Dreamexplorer92 It's ironic most Americans are seeing the FTA as biased against the US.

@deadmonkeytooth That looks like support for the 한나라 party in general. 대통합민주 party looks closer to 37% on Daum.
However, we must remember threats of war raise any leader's approval. Tell me what 2MB's approval was in 2008? 23% Am I right?
I talk to a wide variety of Koreans--businessmen, a pharmacist, a KAL stewardess, a Won Buddhist monk, and a housewife, and only the housewife favors 2MB.
bundangbear 1 year ago
@deadmonkeytooth 감사합니다 I'm not Korean; perhaps you have a better sense of the issue, but I'm just summarizing what real Koreans (in Korea) I deal with every day think. 2MB's support is very low. You must agree with that, right?
Your brother example doesn't seem to fit, as there are more variables: brother, father, mother, kids, when this issue involves only TWO--NK and SK.
I'm not here to troll or debate for kicks. I have a genuine love of Korea. So, your solution is just to attack NK?

@deadmonkeytooth I read Korean. All those sources are mainstream media outlets--Paran, Daum, Nate, Naver, MBC. I don't doubt that the media is pumping that story out; I still don't believe its validity.
So what's the solution? The status quo? That's only good for foreigners looking to exploit Korea and 2MB looking to exploit his own people and further the 한나라당
Let me ask you, are you a 2MB supporter?
Wait 60 years for HIS death? Then HIS son will come to power and it will be the same.

Why can't they remain seperated, but north korea openeing their gates to the world; and allowing the south korean citizens to go in and out (and the north koreans to go in and out) the boundaries without needing specific certifications? I mean, similar to the policy of EEU??
sweentnhot0104 1 year ago
@sweentnhot0104 The Korean national mind is stressed over the division. They are truly one people. They see themselves as one. They are historically one, so reunification is their destiny.
MikeOfKorea 1 year ago
@MikeOfKorea I doubt that, I heard many younger- generations in Korea has been developing minds that the unification might not possibly be necessary. The university students I've went with were more disagreeing with that fact that they must be unified. And in university polls, results showed that more people were actually more null towards the subject. Or that's only the younger ones. Because many elder ones truly wish the reunification.
sweentnhot0104 1 year ago
@sweentnhot0104 The young always change their minds as they grow older. Wisdom takes over from youthful idealism.
MikeOfKorea 1 year ago
@sweentnhot0104 that's because the young people have been influenced by the media. they don't really know that SK is doomed w/o unification. they can't get jobs as it is. the country is overpopulated and most western world countries still think of Korea as a country in divide, unaware of the great technology and companies that Sk has.. unification is the only for SKoreans like me to go to foreign countries and not get stares and questions "are you from north Korea or south Korean?"
tokee1234567 1 year ago
@tokee1234567 hmmmmm......... true. I feel bad when anyone ask "are you from the north or south korea? "
sweentnhot0104 1 year ago
@sweentnhot0104 yea I think for Koreans going abroad one of the most annoying questions ppl ask is about that and "what do you think of NK in general, and KJI their dictator and etc???" esp in Europe they think of us as a country in war, sometimes dangerous to travel to b/c of that... it's all b/c US and even Korea's media are anti-NK and they always post stuff that makes NK so threatening, and don't really post vids about Sk's technology or stuff like that
tokee1234567 1 year ago
@tokee1234567 well, I'm from Europe but I don't say those stuff. Please don't generalize it!
sweentnhot0104 1 year ago
@sweentnhot0104 i'm just saying generally, there are less asians in Europe than it is in North America, hence they might not have that much exposure to Koreans. Not all people think that way, I know, sorry I did not mean to generalize.
tokee1234567 1 year ago
@tokee1234567 It's those ignorant cunts & layabouts who are too lazy to watch news or at least have an insight as to what's going around the world. Why would they want to ask those questions anyway. I wish Korea the best I've went there two times during the summer :D and planning to visit again as an exchange university student haha
sweentnhot0104 1 year ago
@tokee1234567 Yes, when I moved to Japan, everyone in my family strongly supported it and thought I was safe. When I then moved to Bundang, Korea, they thought I was moving into a war zone! Even educated Americans sometimes mistake SK for being dangerous.
bundangbear 1 year ago
@sweentnhot0104 That's a good point. There is a brewing SK national identity that is drifting further and further apart from traditional Korean culture and NK. I'm not sure that's a good thing. What do you think?
bundangbear 1 year ago
@MikeOfKorea They are one people, yes, but what about the 2 million Koreans living north of the Yalu River in China? (They've ALWAYS LIVED THERE AND ALWAYS BEEN KOREAN.) Just curious about what you thought.
bundangbear 1 year ago
@bundangbear That makes me philosophize--> We are a long way as a species from abandoning our "ethnic" groups. I'm a futurist and a globalist. I see no need to protect ethnic or racial divisions. It's a relic of bygone days, bad old days, though there are many who would disagree. North America is struggling through the transition now. Other places will follow in their own time. Man has millennia to go, and I am sure someday we will have given up our need to sanctify these divisions.
MikeOfKorea 1 year ago
@MikeOfKorea Philosophize on! I hear what you're saying, and you have some great ideas, but I still think preserving some aspects of indigenous culture is good for Earth; otherwise, everything will look like a suburban strip of Big Box stores--Erie Blvd. in Syracuse will look just like Tehranno in Seoul. Do you really want that to happen?
bundangbear 1 year ago
@bundangbear Ah, that is cultural! The nice thing about culture is it can transcend ethnicity. Look at us! We behave like Koreans but we're not ethnic Korean! And culture varies a little even within Korea. I bet you there are cultural behaviors in North Korea that would appear odd to South Koreans... I hope we find out. I grieve constantly for the Northern people. And no, I love countrified folk culture. I hate all cities and their boulevards! LOL (not really, but almost)
MikeOfKorea 1 year ago
@MikeOfKorea Speak for yourself; I'm not sure I behave like a Korean. We certainly see aspects of culture transcending ethnicity in people of Jewish heritage, as there's such a wide array of physical features. (I'm of Jewish heritage; do I look it?) Remember, though, this concept runs perpendicular to the traditional East Asian notions of being strongly connected with one's ancestors. How to reconcile this ancestor veneration with your theory of culture transcending ethnicity?
bundangbear 1 year ago
@bundangbear LOL! I guess I don't know how you act off camera, that's true. I guess I was talking more of the social mores we follow when with the Koreans, not our core cultural behavior. Maybe "abandon" ethnicity is a bad word. I've adopted some Korean way of thinking, and they've adopted some of other people's, too. If the whole world does that, we will all become part of each other to a small degree. A greater culture will appear that transcends its parts(?) Good or bad?
MikeOfKorea 1 year ago
@MikeOfKorea You really got me thinking. Is it a greater culture, or just mass culture? Pop culture? Where do we draw the line? IDK. I also believe in the globalization of ideas and concepts to further world knowledge, not when it leads to corporatism run amok that destroys all culture and replaces it with Hollywood back lot made fake culture. And Big Boxes on Erie Blvd. (There's also TWO great Korean markets on Erie Blvd, though, one across from Target and one across from Sam's Club.)
bundangbear 1 year ago
@bundangbear i think those are joseonjoks (Kor immigrants in China, brought there by Japan in colonial times for cheap labour) there are a lot of problems with what to do with them and jae-Il gyopos (Kor immigrants in Japan = zainichi.)
SK won't likely involve them in unification, but they should still support them to preserve their culture/traditions. do you know that NK pays money for NK schools in Japan and help preserve Korean culture there?? SK doesn't do that btw.
tokee1234567 1 year ago
@tokee1234567 No, I believe the Koreans in China around the Dandong area are ones that that lived there in the Goguryeo Kingdom, and later in unified Shilla Kingdom, dating to at least 2,000 years ago.
Yes, I'm aware of NK educational ventures in Japan.
bundangbear 1 year ago
@tokee1234567 The Koreans I speak of in China have ancient roots. The Koreans around Dandong lived there in the Goguryeo Kingdom, dating to at least 2,000 years ago, and later in unified Shilla Kingdom, as well as being absorbed into the Tang Dynasty of China, but keeping their ethnicity and language to this day. Dandong, China continues to be a major center of Korean culture. Korean is one of the 56 recognized ethnicities in modern China.
Yes, I'm aware of NK educational ventures in Japan.
bundangbear 1 year ago
@sweentnhot0104 That's an interesting plan, but the countries of the EU SHARE a lot--do you think NK and SK are willing to share that much and remain separate nations?
bundangbear 1 year ago
It's my understanding based on an interview I heard of a Korean-American that was able to visit deep into North Korea, that North Korean society is composed of two strata. Shopping malls and restaurants for a small minority at the top and a vast poor and exploited underclass.
His handlers only showed him what they wanted him to see, but he was able to slip away briefly to see the truth.
My gut feeling is that it will take a near collapse and violent uprising fueled from the outside to unify K.
citizenkong 1 year ago
@citizenkong Sounds a lot like the US in that regard--two strata! Or, at least any 3rd world ally of the US that I've personally visited, like the Philippines or Sri Lanka. I've personally seen more poverty and suffering in the Philippines than on any NK documentary done by Western media.
bundangbear 1 year ago
i agree that the unification will not happen anytime soon- espically with the US meddling around.

@denzelswifey86 Corporatism has indeed proven the most detrimental system to humankind, yes, I agree.

as far as I know, NK's been giving all their natural resources to China to maintain their relationship. Doesn't matter. SK relies on technology and other exports anyways. Even if NK is lacking on resources we always welcome our people and land. For the sake of all those crying NK/SK separated families I hope the unification will be done before the end of my generation's time. after 2MB's regime, we'll see what happens bundangbear
tokee1234567 1 year ago
SK is running out of land due to its overpopulation and people like me are sick of answering foreigners' questions "are you from the south or the north? what do you think of the recent bombing?" the presence of the continuation of SK and NK conflict hinders SK and Korean's progress b/c it taints their reputation.
NK is stricken with poverty and brainwashed people. the only way to get this thing settled is 1. having Crazy China take it over, which will make a lot of people mad
2. having SK + NK.
tokee1234567 1 year ago
bundangbear, the towns you've seen on rivers might be for show (fake-made) but yea I agree NK might not be poorer than you think... I mean with a 0.001 chance the media in the entire world that portrayed NK might be false, (b/c esp US and SK media have an extreme anti-NK attitude along with their governmet) and not many people go to NK to tell us what they're really seeing anyways.
but unification is really essential in having a future for Koreans.
tokee1234567 1 year ago
@tokee1234567 I agree. Like I said, I've seen poverty so bad in the Philippines and Sri Lanka (NAKED KIDS BEGGING FOR SCRAPS OF FOOD, OLD PEOPLE LEFT TO DIE) that even the poverty I've seen captured in all the documentaries by Western media on North Korea does not compare to what I've seen with my own eyes. And the Philippines is an ally of the US.
bundangbear 1 year ago
2MB just passed a law for having 400 million Korean won for his bodyguards after his presidency is over. the guy's just an idiot who's only interested in his own future and not the people. the 4 crappy river constructions he's doing will take so much money for annual maintenance... with the traps he has set it will make the unification much worse (since the economy will dip more than ever)
tokee1234567 1 year ago
@tokee1234567 Yes, his Great Canal plan is a total failure. And remember he's doing it becasue the mouth of the Hangang is too dangerous for shipping. But, it is clearly well south of any disputed line.
So you agree 2MB is against unification?
bundangbear 1 year ago
@bundangbear of course he is. he's the most biased president I've seen (said that homosexuality is a mental disease, and supports abortion for children with deformities and illneses) and after 2MB came to power, online SK sites have been having ALBAS that get paid 2000won per comment by Han-nara power to track down Minju-dang supporters or Left-wing supporters and call them Commies, or Reds. That has not been very noticeable when No-muhyun the last pres was in power. 2MB supports anti-NK's.

It would be lovely to see the two nations unify under one banner.......but that just not likely to happen.
TheIrredeemable 1 year ago
@TheIrredeemable It will happen. Mark my words!
bundangbear 1 year ago
@bundangbear
Consider them marked.
Mark my words, there is no peace amongst war-mongers.
TheIrredeemable 1 year ago
@TheIrredeemable Then there's no peace. We got some real warmongers wrapped up in this.
bundangbear 1 year ago
@bundangbear
My point exactly, nations wont put aside agression and differences to hold hands just because we say it is the right thing to do.
Even though it is.
TheIrredeemable 1 year ago
@TheIrredeemable But nations have unified all the time. Italy was up until the 1860's a mishmash of city-states that unified into one Italy. Germany, too, at that time, unified. Then again after the fall of Communism. Spain unified, as it was also a mix of kingdoms. I don't see why Korea can't do it. But then again, many of those involved ARE war mongers.

@bundangbear
TheIrredeemable 1 year ago
@TheIrredeemable Yes, Garibaldi in Italy, Isabella I and Ferdinand II in Spain, Bismark in Germany, you're right. Could Kim Jong Eun rise to the challenge? It's sad Roh Moo-hyun is dead.

@bundangbear
In a closed society like North Korea that type of reason and logic you talk about can not exist as openly as it would in other nations.
NK has one of the largest standing armies on earth, you do not assemble and flaunt an army of that size if the only thing on your mind is to make friends.
TheIrredeemable 1 year ago
@TheIrredeemable But their society is opening. Korean dramas are regularly watched. So is Chinese TV. Have you seen Chinese TV? (It's just like US TV--terrible, but not closed. "Chinese Idol" and their version of "Ugly Betty" have been big hits.) Cell phones are in use.
bundangbear 1 year ago
@bundangbear
I actually did not know that, please forgive my ignorance regarding their progression.
But even so, to say that simply because they have cell phones and Ugly Betty they can achieve peace is a bit hastey.
But it is a start.
TheIrredeemable 1 year ago
@TheIrredeemable You're right, it doesn't equal freedom, but it is a start, and much more than most Western people brainwashed by the media think.

@bundangbear
Agreed

democracy is not always good as it is a trick if abused
narsplace 1 year ago
@narsplace That's true, too. But we need one unified nation, right?
bundangbear 1 year ago
@bundangbear yes I would say a good one would be a mix of Roman and USA Republic. So that no one man will hold power and the people have the right to veto any unfair law. I also think that there banking system should be controlled by the republic and not privet and that a law that makes interest outlawed.

@davescraziervideos Thanks for watching!

The North Koreans are isolated, indoctrinated and controlled, with no access to any outside media.
disrxt 1 year ago
@disrxt No, that's just not true. They have cell phones and watch South Korean TV dramas. Again, the situation in the Philippines is WORSE, and PI is a US ally. I've spoken with hundreds of North Koreans in Dandong, who speak English well. Quit listening to everything the media says; you're making yourself look like a tape recorder, not a living human. My sources are real experiences with real people; your sources come from a screen.
