Your bassist and drummer are playing it wrong! It's a rumba feel! Check Jimi doin it right with Curtis Night on the famous Boxing Day boot, recorded at a bar in NJ in '65. Jimi's later versions with the Englishmen backing him is slightly in the rumba vein, although they couldn't cop the feel either.
