  • this song is number 1

  • Look at the cute little old men! Awwwwwwwwww...

  • for some reason this song reminds me of world war 2 and the loss in life it caused. but that might be because i just watched saving private ryan. :S

  • i dont understand what the song means......

  • why would they name it major tom when space oddysey-david bowie(?) gad the same character or why would david have a charcter in a song

  • @cjlaw100 This song is somewhat and unofficial sequel to David Bowie's song,

  • this is a great song wish i knew more bands from other parts of our planet music soooo much more to explore

  • esta musica es una de los mejores yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • Interesting, the first time I heard the English version. The beginning of the chorus sounds pretty strange, but otherwise I like it this way, too. And the lyrics are as good as the German ones. Too bad Peter Schilling only had this one single hit.

  • Planet earth is blue, and there is always something Peter Schilling can do.

  • Ahhhhh back in the day when drugs were good for you

  • Excelente canciòn :)

  • MAJOR TOM DIDNT MAKE IT HOME.8(

  • que vergona esa rola si la andaba buscando

  • sorry but in german it sound better ;)

  • Lindo tema lo mejor de lo mejor vivan aquellas épocas .

  • i don't ever want to meet the sick individual who doesn't love this song.

  • @DanGoguen i don;t want to meet the sick man who got rid of the VH1 classic channel

  • I think this song would go great with footage from the movie 'Appollo 13' with Tom Hanks.

  • the only way that this video would be way better would be showing the story as it is sung...to me it feels like everything went perfect and while in orbit a giant ominous alien mother ship appeared right above the orbiter, opened the hatch communications started failing as well as the rockets and then it got suck into the alien ship...that is what pictured in my mind anyways

  • PETER TOU ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST, LOVE YOUUUUUUUUUUU.

  • GALE IS BETTER!!!!!!!

  • Heard the shiny toy guns is ok. but not as good as this. Peter has a haunting voice and the syth and guitar is better sounding here. Shiny Toys is like a watered down teenie bopper version. but if it brings people here then I guess that is a positive. When I first heard this song it stopped me in my tracks and searched for this song. Had to sing the chorus at the record store cause I didn't know the name ..LOL

  • @Tfmusicmaker Gale brought me here... but I've fallen in love with this song regardless now I've heard the original. Great song. I miss the 80's. :)

  • good song!!!!!!!!!

  • shiny toy guns brought me here! :D

  • This was a homage to David Bowie's Space Oddity song in which an astronaut called Major Tom is drifted to space and lost there. God bless him, he really loved his wife.

The most recent reference was used in Pet Shop Boys' David Bowie remix "Hello Spaceboy"

"Ground to major, bye bye Tom"

Check out that remix. It is awesome as is always with everything from the Pet Shop Boys....

  • I lived in Florida at the time that the Challenger exploded. I watched on TV until just before the launch, then I went outside. I watched as the shuttle took off and began it's ascent. I could see the light from the shuttle. Then it suddenly flashed brightly and was gone. I stood there thinking "This isn't happening." I ran back inside and the news was replaying the crash over and over. Until 9/11, it was the most dramatic and heart wrenching thing I ever saw.

  • Musica Perfeita!!!!!!!!!!

  • Challenger was '86

  • Does this song have anything to do with the explosion of the Challenger in 1984?

  • @Metalchris36 It's not likely. Peter Schilling's German original of "Major Tom" was released in 1982.

  • @tlatosmd oh okay, well thanks for the information

  • @Tfmusicmaker oh well a lot of people are telling me different things so I don't know anymore

  • @Metalchris36 Oh wait. I was wrong I looked it up. However the song reminds me of the Tom Hanks flick. The original Davie bowie version is a fictional character Astronaut that is in space. a metaphor for David Bowie being stung out on drugs. it's like you are in outerspace lost and trying to get clean is him coming home. This song is a spin off and is a literal account of an astronaunt who is in outerspace for rehab but fakes his death and decides space is home.

  • duran durans lil brothers ??

  • Shiny Toy Guns did this song justice!

  • @TBEffect that wrong! The song was made by Peter Schilling in 1982. Shiny Toy Guns made only a cover of it.

  • @flobse0103 Uh... What? That's why I said did it justice! Good cover.

  • @TBEffect oh im sorry XD

  • jeesh im 11 and i love this song wtf is wrong with me!?

  • @kennakis09 You have a good taste in music. xD

  • @kennakis09

    good music never ages.

  • muito bom! inesquecíveis...

  • I was listening to 105.9 radio station in Orlando, FL. on January 28th and I heard a song that I Ioved and that I remembered from the 80's. The station contributed the song to the Challenger disaster. It is a beautiful song and I am glad I rediscovered it. I am an 80's gal and I am a linguist and I've heard both versions, German and English. I believe both have beautiful qualities but I have to say that the rounded vowels of Vollig Losgelost have a natural and beautiful sound.
