As much as I admired Reagan (I voted for him twice) he was wrong on healthcare. Maggie Thatcher who was more conservative than President Reagan believed in and supported England National Healthcare system for the simple reason that it worked and that affordable healthcare is a basic Christian obligation and right. President Reagan never proposed getting rid of medicare or medicaid so I guess it was not that bad of a program.

You can see spending goes up every year the amount of the yearly deficit changes because of revenue based on gdp, but the actual money spent by the fed govt goes up every year. Reagon didn't increase the size of government he increased the size of the military which during the cold war drove Russia into bankruptcy trying to keep up. (1) He did increase the size of the government by increasing spending. I don't care which programs. Despite popular conservative conception, the military is a massive government program.
