what i like about obama is that he is more intelligent than bush by far the reason he cant do the good he said he would do is because of all the rascist republican he has to deal with they just cant stand that theres a "nigger" in the white house and they will say whatever and do whatever to stop him in his tracks those rascist basturds
@icychillgrill3 also remember he has had to deal with racist republicans a war and a horrible economy if you think you can do better work and be president otherwise shut the fuck up
@icychillgrill3 bull shit I dont agree obama is trying to stop people from going into the military and thats not fair he siad he was going ot make changes where is the damn change I dont see anything he wont be in the office the next time if he is god help us all he went to bush for help to turn things around hope I can see some changes but I have not seen any yet.
@elisabethmiller20004 No i dont think he is trying to stop people going into the military. I know some guys in the military and believe for the people that want to be in the military they will be. Im just saying he is smarter than bush. Even a retired Navy SEAL by the name of Jesse Ventura said so. Im not saying he is like the savior from above and gonna fix the whole country but give him a break he cant do worse than bush.
He also bragged about saving $15 billion dollars by cutting their pay raises in half, after he voted to give the banks $700 BILLION, for being corrupt.
Actions speak louder than words.
For what they're putting up with, they deserve 5% annual pay raises and the banks should have TARP taken away. Actions speak louder than words.
Tempted7707 Nixon did the same thing promise an end to the war and gave something else . You're probably too young to remember-- I'm not --- I'm tried of war.
@clint525fuller : You're a delusional fool... How did he lie? Iraq was a lie and we loss alot lives and for what? And on who's watch? He can't pull those soliders out of Iraq immediately it takes times but you rather spur divsion to help you helpless cause. Either you're a r@cist teabagger or insane progressive.....good luck in life.
Of course he's a liar...he's a chciago politician. He is in bed with the rich than George Bush. Think of it...big oil gets us viable products..The Obama crowd is just a bunch of billinonare financiers that influence monetary policy. Obama is THE LARGEST CROOK PRESIDENT OF ALL TIME. (again...he's part of the Chicago Machine)
How much of the proven truth is the Obama followers getting..? Do they know that two Muslims are now in charge of Homeland security? Do they know that one of the many Czars is an admitted communist? Do they know that he is going to appoint many of the Czars over the civilian armies and give them power over the people here just as they did in Germany before WW2? .. Are those that believe Obama out of their minds!!??
Its' so great that obama is visting the troops in ira.....fuck that, all he is visiting are the POGs and desk jockys. Why are there no front-line soldiers, I see. Shit all those people in the back-ground are POGs gathered for a photo-op....it sickens me....
@TheSirAlexthefirst You're statement was very dumb, "Why are there no front line soldiers?" BECAUSE THEY ARE ON THE FRONT LINES YOU IDIOT! You think every single soldier is going to come see fucking Obama and just give up their posts and defenses and strongholds to see Obama? No, the higher up soldiers and "desk jocky's" went because they aren't currently shooting people.
Zionist Jews are the main reasons of financial meltdown of USA since they put USA into unfair war just for Israel security and destroy 600b$.Why and how suddenly the poor India getting rich the Zionist Jews stealing all USA money and investing in India they are fearing that American mind open now and they may kicked out them at anytime. Nationalism growing in USA and peace lover American now doesn't want to support the children killer Zionist Israel after looking the Gaza barbarism
Screw Him!! He said he was going to get us out of there!! I am going back for the second time! And everyone behind him here in this video is air force, prolly in kuwait!! he sucks ass and lied to the whole country!!
haha, good one LiarLama. I,m prior service also and its very easy to tell rmet3 is exactly what you called him trailer trash! Most x-soldiers like my self have more Pride to who ever the Commander-in-Cheif is ...unlike this idiot(rmet)
I am most definitely in the service! Have any bit of evidence you would like to see to prove myself! I got back last year and my father went back in 2004! Don't tell me that I don't know what I am talking about in my post! I live in a country where Freedom of Speech is my right! I went over there last time under Bush and didn't complain one time!
I think we need to Impeach Obama.. He doesnt care about the military... They know it, we know it, the world knows it. How do they feel about the 1 million man force he wants to create? "THE PLAN" this man is not a true American.. He doesnt deserve to be called President. STOP SPENDING OUR MONEY OBAMA!
Offensive forces are not the necessary tools we need to improove this world or this nation. Leadership haven't been evolved for a while, but mass of people of this world had already made those evolution, government can't handle people like animals anymore. We are all in your military already and watching you very closly that you may not know how it is possible but we are there already.
true true. but our objectives changed. we started off as an attack force that moved extremely fast. its not like military planning was ineffective. now we are their in an effort to stabilize the government as best as we can. If we simply ditch then it will crumble, but we cant get rid of all of the insurgents. The whole middle eastern situation is severely screwed up. and conflict will probably never be entirely resolved. that doesnt mean we shouldnt do what we can.
"If we simply ditch then it will crumble, but we cant get rid of all of the insurgents. " Nobody, anywhere, except a few cloistered far lefties and far right libertarians (Ron Paul), is suggesting we ditch Iraq. Nobody. We are bound to their success, probably for decades to come. There is no way out of it. This does not mean we should continue involvement at these levels, and we won't. It's not really much of a choice. Our involvement there is at the whim of both Iraq and American polls.
it would be nice to advance to a point where there is no war ,yeah, but its never gonna happen. in the meantime we have to support our troops and thier cause.
What I'm saying is we should be civilized to the point where "supporting our troops and our cause" does not mean we have to continue a fucking war forever for the sake of "supporting troops and their cause." Do you understand this? Do you see why this philosophy was not sustainable, not only politically, but for the families you are talking about?
"political profit" honestly? bush is out of the office. Obama is the one that just deployed 30,000 extra troops to iraq. we are over there as peace keepers and liberaters to the iraqi people. tell me what political profit that the gop has gained from this war.
It worked for a while, didn't it? Of course the failure of Rumsfeld and the GOP was that they thought we could solve all these problems, on the cheap, with little human sacrifice, and they were wrong. We will slowly phase our involvement out in Iraq and let them duke it out. It will always be messy. With luck, Obama can use his apparent gift at building coalitions to take the burden off of our armed forces. He is increasing troop levels in Afgh., he wants 50K total in Iraq for short term..
im not saying that everything in this war was perfect. It just pisses me off hearing people like you sayin shit when we have people that have died over there for what you say is a "failure".
While you may be right that there are "minds" in the military who disagree with the war and see it as a failure, there are also many that dont. I have a friend whose dad is commander of the entire
82nd airborne, and it would be impossible to convince him that what he does is in vain.
Read what you wrote man.Yea your being honest to yourself. We dont like Obama for many reasons and you dont like republicans for many reasons cant we all agree that all we have is our opinions? Its good that we can sit in front of our computers and disagree and talk shit to each other and still be Americans. We all want the same thing right?
Your the biggest hypocrite piece of crap America has to offer. " Based on what? I love America and I'm happy we aren't being governed by the worst and most deluded fake Christian cultists\corporate cronies in the country. Republicans murdered over 4,000 American soldiers so they could feel better about themselves, which is really terrible. Republicans will be remembered in the same way the Nazi party is remembered in Germany long after you're dead.
Yes, because Bush's track record is worthy of anger and disgust. He created numerous messes that we, the Democrats, have to figure out. The only input we are getting from the Right is anger, religious intolerance, disingenuous "Christian" hypocrisy, and other outdated and unneeded rhetoric. It's almost like the Right wants America to suffer, wants people to hurt more, just so they can be winners again. It's disgusting and pathetic.
Obama doent have a track record he was only a senator for three years and never voted on shit. What National Disaster and two wars ?Thats because hes bailing out failed buss and giving our children over 10 trillion dollars of debt . THATS THE SAME SHIT YOUR CRYING ABOUT NOW. Give me a break your a hypocrite.
We aren't giving our children 10 trillion in debt. Do a little research please. Develop a remote understanding of macroeconomics. I'm not whining at all, it's tough and many things make me angry, but I feel confident.
You have problems conveying your thoughts in written form, don't you? Are you saying that Bush should be commended for his incompetence in dealing with two wars and a national disaster(s)? And he was the one who railroaded the first stimulus package through, btw.
i hate it when i hear people talking about a "failed war". they dont know what they are talking about. We are over there training iraqi troops so that they can defend themselves. Its not like you kill and leave. I highly doubt that you even know anyone in the military and i can guarantee that you dont have the balls to say that what they are doing is a failure, to their faces.
"I highly doubt that you even know anyone in the military" I come from a military family. My brother served in both the 1st and 2nd Iraq wars. My father and uncle served in combat in Vietnam. My grandfather was a tank sergeant in WWI who saw his entire crew burn before his eyes, so fuck you. You don't own the fucking war just because you wrap yourself in the fucking flag and cry during John Wayne movies. Many military minds have said this war was prosecuted terribly and can't "succeed."
well good for you; you are from a military family. I live in a town of military families. My towns home to FORT BRAGG. Most families in this town arent even allowed to know what their parents do. i know kids who have lost their parents. Youll also never here anyone refer to the red white and blue as a "fucking flag" you unpatriotic piece of shit.
"the red white and blue as a "fucking flag" you unpatriotic piece of shit. " It's you who are soiling the flag, it's you that has cheapened it. You hide beneath it and pray that things get worse because you don't want to be proved wrong. Everybody thinks WWI was wrong, but my grandfather didn't want to hear it-- It would be nice if maybe we could advance as a culture enough that a politician couldn't get people like the families in your town to die for the sake of his own political profit.
Just because we are doing some good things in Iraq does not mean the war was a net waste and that the peace is Iraq cannot be sustained with the current political climate in the middle east. Mark my words (I've been right so far) when we leave the Kurds will do exactly what they did when the British left, start a blood revolution and declare independence after murdering every ethnic Turk in their country. Meanwhile the militias (backed by their neighbors) will continue to hold real power.
remember Obama Was in the Senate Sighning On all the Crap that Bush ..Ohh No he wasnt he was absent Doing Crap insted of reading his Books.. There Both to Blame VOTE CONSTITUTION PARTY get rid of Republicans and Dems....Please wake up and Smell the Communism in the air People its happening wether youre republican or Dem its happening this is about Crooked Politicians all together we need to fire em all and Start over
It's about time we have a president that's compassionate enough to recognized our soliders who put their lives on the line for this country. Thank you President Obama!
president that's compassionate enough to recognized our soliders.
I guess it doesn't matter to you that he lied to them as well as us about bringing them home and now instead is increasing their # by 30,000 or that he is trying to cut military spending. Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. You would think Bush would have been enough to open everyones eyes. WAKE UP PEOPLE
lol all blame bush, when congress downed him, well whatever, and i agree those troops, look fed up and pissed, well i would 2, this person is not our savor....
I remember when the internet in 1988. Great time to be a smart left winger, because we built the internet. :)
In those days, we would just insult you and you'd try to figure out out to use a mouse and a keyboard and blame everybody else for your stupidity, as usual.
Did you all notice how his speech was to make these heros feel like victims. A few bought his lie about improved benefits, but do the facts bear this out? Wasn't it just a few weeks ago he said they must use their private insurance first for military injuries? I agree time to come home from both Afg. and Iraq. 7 years of training doped up goat humpers is more than enough. They can't stay sober from hash long enough to form a military to stand up for themselves. Next fight here.
"I don't know how Obama can truthfully pay tribute to the same people he thought should have been there in the first place. He's a hypocrite."
Why is he a hypocrite? Most of the troops who are there don't think we they should be there, which is why they horded around him and gave him hugs. So he supports the troops. Bush on the other hand had every soldier sign statement of non-protest each time he visited them and he cut benefits for vets. That's hypocrisy.
Obama tells EVERYBODY what they want to hear.Have you been watching him on his tour around Europe?Hes an ass kisser and spineless coward.Hes so worried someone will look down on him or say something negative. He wants to be liked way to much and its gonna come back to bite us all in the ass.
McCain lost cause of Palin is all. He was depending on she-votes, but women dont really vote so that was a bad bet. He shouldve gotten a mexican running mate, that way he wouldve gotten the spic vote. Now we know what to do fer 2012, with Govt.Jindal we'll get the curry-vote and maybe even the coon-vote. That way we can take back are country from this liberal idiots, talkin to the turkeys and what not!
"McCain lost cause of Palin is all." No, because he said the fundamentals of the economy are sound, he's old, and out of touch. But at least you see that Palin is a complete waste of our country's attention and symbolic of the collapse of the Republican party in general.
I done voted fer McCain!!! Hossaini Obama is an Al qaida secret operative, he gone destroy are country. Just the other day he was talkin to them turkeys, like he was kissin there ass or somethin! McCain wouldnt of done that!! He would just talked to are allies, like Britain and Alabama!!
Impeach Obama for high treason, he done talk to them al qaideren's up in them turkey country.!!!
he forgets to mention the New World Order agenda he supports and the fact that they will be moving from that War to the next. Stop taking these Military Veterans for fools.
really? Mangina9000, you may not be that educated yet, but soon you will be. Once all these Obama fans wake up to what they have done, it is you who may need the pills my friend:)
Christian crusaders or mercenaries for Israel thats all they are. The United States stands with Israel for the ethnic cleansing of the holy land and the destruction of Palestinian society..........nothing but a god damned religious war is all it is a war against Islam.
I liked Jimmy Carter as a person, in fact our family used to get xmas cards from him (my father worked for his science advisory staff in the White House). He's a very nice man. But Obama and Carter have nothing in common. Obama is a far more competent politician, far more charismatic, inspiring, and of course, people listen to him. Carter was just not a very good president. Carter was merely a relief from the Nixon era, but Obama is far more than a clean slate from the Bush era.
Can you answer a question for me?How do you feel about the 3.26 trillion dollars hes spent so far?Was that much money necessary?Should we have bailed out failing businesses?
answers to all 3 questions yes, yes, yes - do we know for sure it will work? no - no one does for sure - that includes you - you just think you know - most people would rather trust Obama and his team of competent experts - this is something about which reasonable people can disagree -
no we shouldn't bail out failing businesses. Congress is using our taxpayers to protect the bankster criminals from prosecution. Investors and shareholders should be dealing with this. As taxpayers, we have no control. And TARP isn't working. Suspend Mark to market to make banks solvent and just get on with business.
Safer banks will profit.
NASA puts $40 billion into a satellite and return infinate wealth, but we give AIG $81 billion and they lose $60 billion. Bailouts are a waste.
NASA puts $40 billion into a satellite and return infinate wealth, but we give AIG $81 billion and they lose $60 billion" Duh, nobody is really excited about bailouts. All these loans (yes, they are loans, not gifts) are doing is preventing an even worse shock and ripple effect throughout the economy. Nobody is willing to admit that weakness is better than total systemic failure. Do you think anyone is happy about this?
Your way to far left to even talk to.I saw through Bushs bull shit you cant even look at Obama without fainting.Hes no super hero.Lets hope like hell his plate isnt a quarter as full as Bushs.Hes f****** up enough already.
Yea ok man.Ill talk back to you in about seven months when you and all the other people see through his aragance.Hes not Will smith. This isnt men in black for christs sake.WAKE UP PEOPLE!!
So lets bow down for the world and take it up the a**.You can if you want to but Im not.Lets pray we dont have another attack because weve became to damn blind again.
how stupid of you to say that about Bush. It shows you are unable to check the facts and are a media parrot. since you like them so much MSNBC poll gave Obama an F. And they was his best allie. ROFL
"how stupid of you to say that about Bush. It shows you are unable to check the facts and are a media parrot. since you like them so much MSNBC poll gave Obama an F. And they was his best allie. ROFL"
WOW! You sure are a smart person, as can be seen by your command of the English language. Tell you what, PM me your source, and I will post it! Ok? Or, if you'd rather just make sacred babies with your sister, we can pretend we never met.
I don't feel very good about it, but that's the economy that's been handed to us. If you look at how Japan addressed their lost decade, by spending approximately 4% of their GNP on similar bailouts and infrastructural investments, you might not feel so insecure. Currently, Japan is bailing US out. They are weathering this far better than we are, as is Sweden, who underwent the same process in the 90's as well. Much of this debt is getting the war over with, that's not his fault.
"The war? What $656.1 BILLION dollars we spent in seven years?"
Um... Part of the budget deficit forecast includes the total cost of the war into the following years. The total cost of the wars will easily exceed a trillion. Most of the deficit will be in the form of health care costs, which is why Obama is attempting to adopt some of the lessons other large democracies with federal health care have learned. We spend twice as much on health care as France per capita, with worse results.
Not bashing Obama because he didn't cause the fiscal crisis. But this isn't going to solve it. The stimulus is a keynesian concept and Keynes said himself it can't work with a trade deficit.
Clinton tried it with the dotcom sector, it was a bubble cause it cant' compensate for $ leaving the country. Bush tried it and it flopped. Obama is repeating their mistake and inflating the currency.
"The stimulus is a keynesian concept and Keynes said himself it can't work with a trade deficit." And there is the crux of our problem, because we have become a nation of importers. Part of why this is considered "neo-Keynsian" is that we are deficit spending to increase the money base and generate an export economy again. It's a tough situation, but allowing investment to dry up and the money supply to dwindle will cost us far, far more in the long run. At least evidence points to this.
it actually wouldn't. More banks failed during the S&L Crisis. The only thing it's costing us is credit.
We have a record breaking current account deficit. Add the mulitplier effect and we were already in a disaster before the derivative market imploded. Without the derivative market we would've had a weak GDP.
China buys US treasuries to keep the Yuan valued lower than the US Dollar. Spending means we either need to sell more or inflate the economy in a huge way. Long term it's bad.
"Long term it's bad. " No guarantee that they'll continue sinking their money into treasuries, but it's really a choice between weakness and collapse. Geithner's plan is painful, and quite frankly I really do not understand the arguments between Brad deLong et al and Krugman concerning. I'm not a professional economist, but god damn if I try as hard as I can to understand the ins and outs of this mess; it is also equally tricky to sort out politicized economics from sound policy.
Obama needs to have a heartfelt chat with the WTO who defends China's protectionist policies against us.
We're too far underwater with our deficits and our economy was plagued on an international scale.
Monetary policy is the expansion of credit and inflation. Credit needs to be secured with real value.
Remember, if you're 47 you will not be paying the brunt of it. The younger generation will be struggling with taxation and inflation and no guarentees of improvement.
Mangina9000, the reason why the stimulus worked for Japan is because they have a surplus. Or more income then expenditures.
Which is why it's going to work for China.
If you look at our debts payable, inflation, interest payable on top of our trade and federal deficits...could you explain when we're supposed to break even?
"Mangina9000, the reason why the stimulus worked for Japan is because they have a surplus. Or more income then expenditures." Orszag predicts through Obama's plan we can reduce the deficit from 9% of GDP to about 3% of GDP by 2013, which is at least a start. We are really stuck. I disagree with you on the OPEC incentive to drop oil prices, it was not market driven anymore than it was market drive to exceed $130 a barrel. There is no easy way out.
OPEC nations have admitted to reducing OUTPUT during the high demand that drove the economy during the Bush years, which is not a market driven move, it's a cartel driven move. They are now reducing output while simultaneously pegging the barrel at $50, because that's what they can get. Abdalla Salem El-Badri has stated that they are worried about Obama's alt fuels, and will probably deflate the barrel BELOW market value in the hopes of stymieing what they hope is just another trend.
We can attack fuel on two or more ways. First, a lot of public transport was removed when the car was invented. And this was supported by the auto industry, big suprise there! I'm against the auto bailout because of their anticompetative practices. I walk, people bike, take subways, busses, etc. Next, there's nothing wrong with drilling in Alaska, that's a serious export, see China and India. Alternatives fuels should compete with gas. All options should be made available.
"Alternatives fuels should compete with gas." That is where this becomes difficult, since it isn't a competitive market, it's a monopoly. Whenever prices go up, alt energy is popular, then OPEC cuts prices, and suddenly it's "not practical" anymore. We can no longer afford to do this. Drilling in Alaska will be paid for by the taxpayer and will make zero difference at the pump. It's pure extortion and propaganda by oil companies. And Obama intends to expand transit across the country.
These alternative energy ideas are also sponsored by the taxpayer.
Unfortunately oil is a monopoly, it's not a product of the free markets. Drilling in alaska would make a difference at the pump. Like alternatives, it would reduce the demand for middle east oil and we won't have to import as much from them. Also we would have oil to export.
Until alternatives are affordable and good to go, china and india, both with a billion population each will increase the demand by a lot.
"Drilling in alaska would make a difference at the pump."
No, it wouldn't.
It would provide a burden (at taxpayer expense) relief of about a nickel a gallon for about two years.
The alaskan oil drilling nonsense is a complete distraction from what actually has to happen, and a new energy grid and new energy sources are not a net taxpayer expense if it increases our trade surplus and rejuvenates consumer confidence in the long run.
drilling in alaska would make a difference at the pump because it would drop demand for middle eastern oil. OPEC would have a lot less room to play with those prices.
the energy grids are not a guarentee. We're looking at affordability. Like our tech, developing countries such as China are likely to reject it.
ANWAR is 10B barrels tops. We burn through that in 16 months in the USA. And figure the extraction is over 30 years.... Less that 1/4% of world production. Yeah, that will make a hell of dent in oil prices, LOL.
"All options should be made available." Our primary goal should be complete energy independence with a goal of creating exportable goods. I am a fan of exploring thesome potential of windfarms (Europe's windfarm network puts us to shame and is the envy of the world) and unlocking potential of methane clathrates. Another important tech to develop is Archaeal biogas. There is so much we can do, we just need to commit to it for the sake of our children's energy independence.
Furthermore, nobody is saying this isn't hurting, but most economists will agree that deflation and decline in liquidity will be far worse, and far more expensive, than the current solution. Immediate liquidation of our core industries is simply UNACCEPTABLE. It would create a ripple effect throughout the economy. Further, prolonged unemployment far surpassing 10% over a decade can easily result if we do not go through this process... And finally...
We spent trillions of dollars and nothings happened and will not happen. Its way too much pork.Money to companies that are total failures that republicans have warned the congress (full of democrats for the last seven going on eight years ) about in 2002 & 2004.Thats facts man look it up.Democrats put to much blame on Bush. They never take blame for squat and never will.
Please cite some sources instead of saying "that's facts man look it up." Republicans controlled the damn congress, why would they "warn the congress" if they control it? And the South, the largest recipient of what you call "pork," is controlled by Republicans. Most of those Republicans, almost all of them really, are quite happy to be getting it. You are simply ignorant of the way our political system works and you don't seem to have a grasp of what's actually happening. Prove me wrong.
both reps and dems should agree, the bankers knew they were selling unsecured derivatives, aka. krap and they should be in jail. More banks failed during the S&L crisis. Macroeconomic conditions cause a bad economy. Fraudsters need to go to jail, not be bailed out. Both dems and reps voted for the bailout to protect the criminals.
they wouldn't liquidate immediately. First and foremost, doing the mark to market thing allows these banks to write their losses off over time and makes them solvent RIGHT AWAY.
It's been $trillions and 6 months later.
Congress did NOT ONCE demand an audit. Not ONE banker has been prosecuted for fraud.
Matt Taibbi has the 411.
tinyurl c o m/d7hefo
Congress doesn't know what they're doing. I'm suprised you're buying it.
"Buying it." As I said, it is very difficult to take separate politicized economic policies from sound ones. Think of it this way: Congress decides to prosecute. Every day the headlines are filled with death sentences which make everybody happy. Trust in the banks is not restored. We are given every sordid detail. Consumer confidence goes down, and, worst of all, Republicans can continue pursuing their case that Democrats are starting a class war. That's one side of the story...
You are talking about banks as if they are the only people to blame, when this is a pervasive epidemic throughout the economy. People talk of Main Street and Wall Street as if they are separate, but if tens of millions of normal Americans didn't use their overvalued houses as credit cards so that they could compete with their neighbors, we wouldn't be in this mess. Should we put them all to the gallows too? Missing from your scorched earth policy is the concept of consumer confidence.
I would say FUD is justifying the Iraq war and disseminating class war rhetoric, as well. I think you are asking how increasing liquidity into a recessionary economy is better than allowing the market to "correct itself?" Do you know what happens when a large multinational bank becomes insolvent? I do not believe your appraisal of Japan's lost decade was correct. The government failed to take over the banks. We are being far more stern. But again, FUD from the right is a problem too.
While we're using debate tactics broadly, you are guilty of argumentum ad ignorantiam. Basically you are saying "because you don't know the machinations of the Fed, everything is screwed and bailouts are a mistake." This is faulty logic, to say the least. The excuse we are given by the Fed, and I will say again that none of this is going down easily for anybody, is that they don't want investors and consumers to lost confidence in banks by publicly humiliating them by exposing their risks.
Our Congress never asked for an audit. Infact it was members of Congress who enacted the Commodities Futures Modernization Act of 2000 and so forth, that contributed heavily to the crash.
Congress passed sloppy legislation that resulted in bank failures, and you're willing to blindly trust them with our taxpayer dollars and all that money as they hold it hostage.
I think you're ignorant of what the significance of any of it is.
According to your logic, you blame Enron shareholders for their loss when shareholders were the only ones who could prosecute.
This bailout is a huge waste of money.
Where's the transparancy?
OR are you just concerned with real estate value? That won't stabilize until Gen Y can afford legit mortgages. Inflation, loss of private sector with taxation will make this process that much more difficult.
... Finally we have been neglecting our infrastructure far too long. We are still using a power grid that was built for Americans by FDR, to solve the LAST great financial crisis. We are still slaves to OPEC, who have recently, and irrationally, pegged a barrel at $50. Not because of market forces (it's worth less), but because that's how much they can squeeze out of us. Obama is the first president to ever grab this bull by the horns, and that will be a part of his legacy above all else.
Lol! You really are a Rush Limbaugh "ditto head" tool, aren't you? Time will tell how Obama's Presidency turns out, but already, he has proven vastly superior to Carter (and Bush, for that matter) as a leader.
The best president ever!

Actions speak louder than words.
For what they're putting up with, they deserve 5% annual pay raises and the banks should have TARP taken away. Actions speak louder than words.

DjembeGuy68 2 years ago
true true. but our objectives changed. we started off as an attack force that moved extremely fast. its not like military planning was ineffective. now we are their in an effort to stabilize the government as best as we can. If we simply ditch then it will crumble, but we cant get rid of all of the insurgents. The whole middle eastern situation is severely screwed up. and conflict will probably never be entirely resolved. that doesnt mean we shouldnt do what we can.
DjembeGuy68 2 years ago
"If we simply ditch then it will crumble, but we cant get rid of all of the insurgents. " Nobody, anywhere, except a few cloistered far lefties and far right libertarians (Ron Paul), is suggesting we ditch Iraq. Nobody. We are bound to their success, probably for decades to come. There is no way out of it. This does not mean we should continue involvement at these levels, and we won't. It's not really much of a choice. Our involvement there is at the whim of both Iraq and American polls.
Mangina9000 2 years ago
it would be nice to advance to a point where there is no war ,yeah, but its never gonna happen. in the meantime we have to support our troops and thier cause.
DjembeGuy68 2 years ago
What I'm saying is we should be civilized to the point where "supporting our troops and our cause" does not mean we have to continue a fucking war forever for the sake of "supporting troops and their cause." Do you understand this? Do you see why this philosophy was not sustainable, not only politically, but for the families you are talking about?
Mangina9000 2 years ago
true. If we try to resolve every conflict our work will never be done.
DjembeGuy68 2 years ago
"political profit" honestly? bush is out of the office. Obama is the one that just deployed 30,000 extra troops to iraq. we are over there as peace keepers and liberaters to the iraqi people. tell me what political profit that the gop has gained from this war.
DjembeGuy68 2 years ago
It worked for a while, didn't it? Of course the failure of Rumsfeld and the GOP was that they thought we could solve all these problems, on the cheap, with little human sacrifice, and they were wrong. We will slowly phase our involvement out in Iraq and let them duke it out. It will always be messy. With luck, Obama can use his apparent gift at building coalitions to take the burden off of our armed forces. He is increasing troop levels in Afgh., he wants 50K total in Iraq for short term..
Mangina9000 2 years ago

Yes, because Bush's track record is worthy of anger and disgust. He created numerous messes that we, the Democrats, have to figure out. The only input we are getting from the Right is anger, religious intolerance, disingenuous "Christian" hypocrisy, and other outdated and unneeded rhetoric. It's almost like the Right wants America to suffer, wants people to hurt more, just so they can be winners again. It's disgusting and pathetic.
Mangina9000 2 years ago

i hate it when i hear people talking about a "failed war". they dont know what they are talking about. We are over there training iraqi troops so that they can defend themselves. DjembeGuy68 2 years ago
Mangina9000 2 years ago
well good for you; you are from a military family. I live in a town of military families. My towns home to FORT BRAGG. DjembeGuy68 2 years ago

But Obama and Carter have nothing in common. Obama is a far more competent politician, far more charismatic, inspiring, and of course, people listen to him. Carter was just not a very good president. Carter was merely a relief from the Nixon era, but Obama is far more than a clean slate from the Bush era.

davis80smusic 2 years ago
no we shouldn't bail out failing businesses.

Mangina9000 2 years ago
The war? What $656.1 BILLION dollars we spent in seven years?
fghnpoma 2 years ago
Mangina9000 2 years ago
just peanuts compared to the $7 trillion Obama just spent in the last 3 months.
therealcaptobvious 2 years ago
Again, better and less expensive than a depression.
Mangina9000 2 years ago
Not bashing Obama because he didn't cause the fiscal crisis. But this isn't going to solve it. The stimulus is a keynesian concept and Keynes said himself it can't work with a trade deficit.
Clinton tried it with the dotcom sector, it was a bubble cause it cant' compensate for $ leaving the country. Bush tried it and it flopped. Obama is repeating their mistake and inflating the currency.
Throwing money at the problem makes it worse.
therealcaptobvious 2 years ago

Long term it's bad.
therealcaptobvious 2 years ago
"Long term it's bad. " No guarantee that they'll continue sinking their money into treasuries, but it's really a choice between weakness and collapse. Geithner's plan is painful, and quite frankly I really do not understand the arguments between Brad deLong et al and Krugman concerning. I'm not a professional economist, but god damn if I try as hard as I can to understand the ins and outs of this mess; it is also equally tricky to sort out politicized economics from sound policy.

Mangina9000,
Obama needs to have a heartfelt chat with the WTO who defends China's protectionist policies against us.

If you look at our debts payable, inflation, interest payable on top of our trade and federal deficits...could you explain when we're supposed to break even?
therealcaptobvious 2 years ago
"Mangina9000, the reason why the stimulus worked for Japan is because they have a surplus. Or more income then expenditures." Orszag predicts through Obama's plan we can reduce the deficit from 9% of GDP to about 3% of GDP by 2013, which is at least a start. We are really stuck. I disagree with you on the OPEC incentive to drop oil prices, it was not market driven anymore than it was market drive to exceed $130 a barrel. There is no easy way out.
Mangina9000 2 years ago
OPEC nations have admitted to reducing OUTPUT during the high demand that drove the economy during the Bush years, which is not a market driven move, it's a cartel driven move. They are now reducing output while simultaneously pegging the barrel at $50, because that's what they can get. Abdalla Salem El-Badri has stated that they are worried about Obama's alt fuels, and will probably deflate the barrel BELOW market value in the hopes of stymieing what they hope is just another trend.
Mangina9000 2 years ago
We can attack fuel on two or more ways. First, a lot of public transport was removed when the car was invented. And this was supported by the auto industry, big suprise there! I'm against the auto bailout because of their anticompetative practices. I walk, people bike, take subways, busses, etc. Next, there's nothing wrong with drilling in Alaska, that's a serious export, see China and India. Alternatives fuels should compete with gas. All options should be made available.
therealcaptobvious 2 years ago
"Alternatives fuels should compete with gas." That is where this becomes difficult, since it isn't a competitive market, it's a monopoly. Whenever prices go up, alt energy is popular, then OPEC cuts prices, and suddenly it's "not practical" anymore. We can no longer afford to do this. Drilling in Alaska will be paid for by the taxpayer and will make zero difference at the pump. It's pure extortion and propaganda by oil companies. And Obama intends to expand transit across the country.
Mangina9000 2 years ago
These alternative energy ideas are also sponsored by the taxpayer.
Unfortunately oil is a monopoly, it's not a product of the free markets. Drilling in alaska would make a difference at the pump. Like alternatives, it would reduce the demand for middle east oil and we won't have to import as much from them. Also we would have oil to export.
Until alternatives are affordable and good to go, china and india, both with a billion population each will increase the demand by a lot.
therealcaptobvious 2 years ago
"Drilling in alaska would make a difference at the pump."
No, it wouldn't.
It would provide a burden (at taxpayer expense) relief of about a nickel a gallon for about two years.
The alaskan oil drilling nonsense is a complete distraction from what actually has to happen, and a new energy grid and new energy sources are not a net taxpayer expense if it increases our trade surplus and rejuvenates consumer confidence in the long run.
Mangina9000 2 years ago
drilling in alaska would make a difference at the pump because it would drop demand for middle eastern oil. OPEC would have a lot less room to play with those prices.
the energy grids are not a guarentee. We're looking at affordability. Like our tech, developing countries such as China are likely to reject it.
therealcaptobvious 2 years ago
ANWAR is 10B barrels tops. We burn through that in 16 months in the USA. And figure the extraction is over 30 years.... Less that 1/4% of world production. Yeah, that will make a hell of dent in oil prices, LOL.
codediporpal 2 years ago

They never take blame for squat and never will.
fghnpoma 2 years ago

Congress doesn't know what they're doing. I'm suprised you're buying it.

Fear Uncertantity and Doubt, or FUD
therealcaptobvious 2 years ago
"Buying it." As I said, it is very difficult to take separate politicized economic policies from sound ones. Think of it this way: Congress decides to prosecute. Every day the headlines are filled with death sentences which make everybody happy. Trust in the banks is not restored. We are given every sordid detail. Consumer confidence goes down, and, worst of all, Republicans can continue pursuing their case that Democrats are starting a class war. That's one side of the story...
Mangina9000 2 years ago
You are talking about banks as if they are the only people to blame, when this is a pervasive epidemic throughout the economy. People talk of Main Street and Wall Street as if they are separate, but if tens of millions of normal Americans didn't use their overvalued houses as credit cards so that they could compete with their neighbors, we wouldn't be in this mess. Should we put them all to the gallows too? Missing from your scorched earth policy is the concept of consumer confidence.
Mangina9000 2 years ago
that's a FUD tactic.
Fear
Uncertainty
Doubt
Exactly how would not doing anything increase the apocalyptic effects?
They said that they needed to secure fraud assets. Why do we need to do that? Did they tell us about the electric run on the banks?
Do you know where all of the money is going?
Wouldn't it be cheaper for the taxpayers just to loan businesses the money through a safer bank?
Were there not other options?
FUD is justifying theft for innocent people who didn't cause this.
therealcaptobvious 2 years ago
I would say FUD is justifying the Iraq war and disseminating class war rhetoric, as well. I think you are asking how increasing liquidity into a recessionary economy is better than allowing the market to "correct itself?" Do you know what happens when a large multinational bank becomes insolvent? I do not believe your appraisal of Japan's lost decade was correct. The government failed to take over the banks. We are being far more stern. But again, FUD from the right is a problem too.
Mangina9000 2 years ago
While we're using debate tactics broadly, you are guilty of argumentum ad ignorantiam. Basically you are saying "because you don't know the machinations of the Fed, everything is screwed and bailouts are a mistake." This is faulty logic, to say the least. The excuse we are given by the Fed, and I will say again that none of this is going down easily for anybody, is that they don't want investors and consumers to lost confidence in banks by publicly humiliating them by exposing their risks.
Mangina9000 2 years ago
Mangina9000,
so you have no rebuttal.
I think you're ignorant of what the significance of any of it is.
therealcaptobvious 2 years ago
Mangina9000,
According to your logic, you blame Enron shareholders for their loss when shareholders were the only ones who could prosecute.
This bailout is a huge waste of money.
Where's the transparancy?
OR are you just concerned with real estate value? That won't stabilize until Gen Y can afford legit mortgages. Inflation, loss of private sector with taxation will make this process that much more difficult.
I'm just telling you how it is.
therealcaptobvious 2 years ago
Mangina9000 2 years ago
So exactly how did Obama get Opec to reduce the price of oil? They dropped it because of our markets.
The oil was high because of international futures speculation.
therealcaptobvious 2 years ago
Lol! You really are a Rush Limbaugh "ditto head" tool, aren't you? Time will tell how Obama's Presidency turns out, but already, he has proven vastly superior to Carter (and Bush, for that matter) as a leader.
