trapping done properly does not cause much discomfort to the animal..check the tags on the trap, they are supposed to be marked with name/address or trapper id. Check local and state trapping laws, most states forbid traps being set within 100 yards of a dwelling and most states require traps be placed at least 10 feet apart to prevent a caught animal from becoming entangled in more than one trap, thus preventing the animal ending up like your little dog. signed, a responsible trapper.

This was obviously set up..any trapper would have rusted and dyed their trap this trap was obviously new. I do trap and have had several traps trigger on my hand and or fingers. I was afraid of what would happen @ 1st but surprisingly it didnt hurt in the least bit. KEEP YOUR DOG ON A LEASH! or BUILD THEM A ENCLOSURE! if you're letting your dog run free, you're responsible for anything that happens to them, not the trapper. you need to be more responsible with your dog and not allow them to roam. did you know having a dog off a leash in woodland is actually illegal? that's dog at large and you can be fined for it.
The problem with posting signs is people will steal or vandalize your traps. There should have been a tag on the trap that has the trappers ID on it. You call fish and game with the number, they call the trapper and he comes to you and turns your dog loose. And from the look of it he's fine. A sportsman probably made the trail in the first place that was later taken over by everyone else. So cut us some slack. He was probably going after a problem animal anyway.

Ok I'm having some doubts here. I've been trapping since I was 14 and something bothers me about this video. I noticed in the picture with you holding your dog still in the traps. The trap I could see doesn't look to be waxed or dyed or do I see any rust on it. Just putting a trap out overnight will cause it to rust a bit. To get the trap off all you have to do is push down on the two levers on each side and the reason we put traps near paths is because animals like fox, coyote, and bob cat follow the path of least resistence and that is usualy a trail.

These devices restrain animals without permanent injury, yeah it stings a bit when it snaps shut (I've caught my fingers before), but does no permanent damage. This was obviously set up..any trapper would have rusted and dyed their trap this trap was obviously new. I do trap and have had several traps trigger on my hand and or fingers. I was afraid of what would happen @ 1st but surprisingly it didnt hurt in the least bit. The traps are not designed to cut,or sever the are designed to hold...my son was setting a trap the other day and it triggered he too said it didnt hurt him at all.so please if you dont like trapping thats fine but dont post lies.

If your cat or dog gets caught in my traps they will become bait. Outside cats are feral as far as I'm concerned, they compete with the natural fauna. Dogs off a lead can only be chasing or bothering wildlife! Keep them contained. Ground kitty makes terrific bait for predators.

The problem with posting signs is people will steal or vandalize your traps. There should have been a tag on the trap that has the trappers ID on it. You call fish and game with the number, they call the trapper and he comes to you and turns your dog loose. And from the look of it he's fine. A sportsman probably made the trail in the first place that was later taken over by everyone else. So cut us some slack. He was probably going after a problem animal anyway.

Ok I'm having some doubts here. I've been trapping since I was 14 and something bothers me about this video. I noticed in the picture with you holding your dog still in the traps. The trap I could see doesn't look to be waxed or dyed or do I see any rust on it. Just putting a trap out overnight will cause it to rust a bit. To get the trap off all you have to do is push down on the two levers on each side and the reason we put traps near paths is because animals like fox, coyote, and bob cat follow the path of least resistence and that is usualy a trail.

These devices restrain animals without permanent injury, yeah it stings a bit when it snaps shut (I've caught my fingers before), but does no permanent damage. Keep ur dog on a leash and u have no worries with traps

thats what you get for not having your hound mut on a lead. it sucks that that happened to your dog but its neither the trapper's or you dog's fault. i highly doubt the trapper thought you wouldnt have a dog on a lead and your hound mut was doing hound things running around sniffing stuff. leg hod traps are one of the most simple conservation tools i use commonly. try being a responsible HOUND owner. they sniff and wonder more then a normal dog as they are bred to hunt.
