  • My Lord! At 1:51, Christian Slater looked just like him. Bobby was the best, but unfortunately was one of many American artists who got sidelined by the "British Invasion".

  • South Buffalo New York 1964 !

  • @327caprice Governors Island NY 1961 -1965!

  • What a great voice.....wish we could get these types of songs back!

  • Quick now! How many singers named Bobby can you think of in the 50's and early 60's?

  • I LOVED Bobby Rydell in Bye Bye Birdie, sooo precious!

  • I met Bobby Rydell backstage at one of his concerts in 1997.... what a voice he's been gifted with!

  • Nice video!

  • great song great voice

  • greater singer great song

  • Gosh I love his voice

  • This is still a massive tune. He had a fine powerful voice.

  • This guy was in bye bye birdie right?

    Please reply!

  • @hmareksoccer10 Right

  • @hmareksoccer10 Yes, he sure was!

  • Bobby, Fabian and Frankie all grew up together. Bobby with the best voice, Fabian with the best looks and Frankie as the best actor. Who can forget Beauty School Dropout.

  • Grwoing up I used to run to the radio and put my ear to the speaker whenever this song came on WBBF in Roch. NY..... they used to have you phone in your favs and play them in order,,,, thanks for not forgetting him:)

  • Born Robert Riderelli in Philly. He was also on the movie"Bye bye Birdie" and others.

  • No Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for Bobby Rydell huh? Even though this guy had more hits than most and they were memorable. Oh well, having a career that has lasted over 40 years has to be worth something right? God bless you Mr. Rydell.

  • @lastrada52 The Hall of Fame is a joke, run by a bunch of no-nothings in Detroit. I'm sure if they let the fans vote it would be very different.

  • @John1948TwoB1a i think you've got a good idea.who makes these choices anyway?let the people speak and if they care you'd get pick's that reflect the peoples true feelings.the only problem is we probely would'nt like the picks.can you imagine what's like to be a politician?

  • @John1948TwoB1a The R&R Hall of Fame is in Cleveland but, no matter. You're head is in the right place and those whose votes put people in the HOF -- or keep them out, as the case may be here -- have THEIR heads up where the sun don't shine. In these latest inductions the Beastie Boys are in and Bobby Rydell, Roy Hamilton and many others who could actually SING(!) are still out in the cold. The R&R HOF is, as you say, a BIG 'joke." Definitely NOT on my Places to Visit list.

  • @deanslist101 Yeah, Cleveland. I knew that but I posted without thinking - or proof reading. LOL

  • @John1948TwoB1a the rock and roll hall of fame is Not in Detroit. but your right. the hall of fame is a joke. but then again so are the grammys which anyone can get these days. same as MTV awards. they give them away

  • @blkshepherd Yeah, Cleveland. Got it! LOL

  • @John1948TwoB1a its ok. most people probably think its in Hollywood Ca LOL also they are so Sorry and bias and just plain sorry as so many talented artists were over looked and still being overlooked. yet you will get some one or two hit wonder and they will be nominated.

  • @lastrada52 Bobby Rydell started as a young teenager even before hitting it big. He's been in the business for 55 years. And better than ever. His shows are magical.

  • i ask a girl to say the title of the song to her boyfriend. Later in years she became my wife. that was 20 years ago.

  • Loved it when he punched Conrad Birdie. Faaaaantistic. lol

  • I remember back in the sixties in the youth club dancin' to this in Manchester uk. BRILLIANT! Have you heard Billy Fury as well though? Nearly as good.

  • I'm only 15 and I prefer this than the rubbish music the majority listens to nowadays. I need a time machine:/

  • @SuperMrDwayne What's the difference? it's all pop songs written by record companies

  • Just saw Bobby in Rock and Roll oldies. He preformed with a broken rib, but did he give a great show. I didn't know he was Italian, should have known, super super.

  • I love this song, (:

  • better than ricky nelson?

  • i hate 2 say it but.i was in jr. high and kissed my fist girl at the the dance...and rydell was singing this tune... i am 61 now, i rest my case

  • The man has a fabulous voice, and this is perhaps the BEST version of this song. Recorded by many, many artists, but Mr. Ridarelli really packs a punch.

  • The guy could sing. The song takes me back to when I was 10 years old. My older sister would play this song. Great thank , you for posting

  • One of my favorite 60's songs!

  • A Top 5 hit for Bobby Rydell in January 1964. It hit #3 on the Adult Contemporary charts and #13 in the United Kingdom. Speaking of the United Kingdom, the music world was fixing to get ROCKED! (The British Are Coming...The British Are Here).

  • A Top 5 hit for Bobby Rydell in January 1964. It hit #3 on the Adult Contemporary charts and #13 in the United Kingdom. Speaking of the United Kingdom, well, what else can be said? The music scene was fixing to get ROCKED! in more ways than one. (The British Are Coming....The British Are Here).

  • @mkl62 this was his last record on the charts after this he experimented with folk rock like bobby darin and sounding like frank sinatra then he took up golf and did infomercials for oldies cds

  • Oh, my God! am I dreaming up in heaven, or am I really hearing this?

  • @rednova55 Oh yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • saw him in vegas. still great

  • what a gift!

  • I love music in the 50's, 60' and 70's I'm really enjoying this kind of music.

  • I sing it every day Bobby.

  • Great voice even today. He outshone Frankie Avalon and Fabian when I saw them last weekend in Reno. Great set of pipes and just an adorable personality. I've never seen someone smile so much. Loved him and loved the show!

  • Ahhh,.....taking a walk down memory lane this morning....glad I found this jewel.....suzi

  • The best male voices in the late 50's and early 60's were both Bobbys. Darin and Rydell, in that order.

  • @KnightVow I'm grateful you put that into words!

  • @KnightVow Sorry Gotta go with Tommy Roe.

  • That beautiful manly voice and that gorgeous face! He had it all!

  • Only came because supposedly this song was the inspiration for the Beatles "She Loves You". I can see a little bit of the influence.

  • I sing this with my guitar. Catch my show Sep 3rd in Coney Island, Brooklyn NYC.. Surf N Turf Bar directly across from Nathans! 50s 60s 70s 80s music..Arty

  • This is the teen idol who could really sing. Talented young man.

  • his last top ten hit the beatles wipe every body off the charts

  • Love this vid sooooooooo much, who could forget HIM= Bobby Rydell, always a fav,

love the song & BR.. thanks for this great blast from the .... Marcie xox to my faves*

  • This was my first favorite love song when I fell in love at 12 years old! LOL

  • Yes, this is the original version. I can tell by the arrangement. Personally, I like the second, later version better because of the backup singers' voices being more pronounced. I have this version if anyone would like to hear it.

  • I was beside of cliff also a bobby Rydell fan I loved his music.

Wast this a track rom a moovie goodbye baby of bye bye baby?

  • Ohhh I love, Love this song & vid!!!! ***** Thankyou John...Anita.:)

  • Probably the best voice of the teen idol singers....much much better than Bobby Vee, Frankie Avalon, and so many of the others. This song holds up super well. I'm surprised it's not covered more often.

  • Haven't heard this song since I was a kid in the early sixties. So happy to find it here. And it still sounds as wonderful now as it did all those years ago. Thanks for sharing :D

  • Amazing song

    Danny

  • a true masterpiece--- all the elements of phenomenal Italian-American ingenuity!!!!

  • he sings this very fast to billy fury's version

  • I think this is the original.I remembered this song in my high school days, watching his movie with ann margret.my fave song.

  • @sleepytimegalz Phyllis I accidentally deleted your comment on Wild One. I meant to click REPLY but clicked REMOVE by mistake. I'm so sorry. And yes you are a wild one BUT wild does not always = trouble. XOXOX

  • This was recorded in England and penned by Petula Clark's main 60s songwriter, Tony Hatch.

  • @shmuli9 Then tony went to new york looked at 42nd street thought it was downtown [its really midtown they didnt have the song writers hall of fame there yet] and wrote downtown .

  • @spacepatrolman Heh! Yes! "Downtown" in New York is generally south of Greenwich Village, and "Midtown" is 34th north to the 60s... (Though, somehow, on a world scale, I don't think a song called "Midtown" probably would have sold much.) In Seattle, the progression is "downtown", "Belltown" and "uptown"...

  • @shmuli9 Thats interesting in washington dc the streets are like the spokes of a wheel so anything outside the center is downtown like where the watergate is
