Ghazal is actually a form of poetry with AA, BA, CA, DA rhyme, same weight in all lines as you can see in this song. The reh gaya is repeated in line 1,2,4,6,8, and son on:

Aapko dekhkar dekhta reh gaya kya kahoon aur kehne ko kya reh gaya unkee aankhon mein kaise chalakne laga mere honthon pe jo maajra reh gaya aise bichde sabhi raah ke mod par aakhri hum-safar raasta reh gaya

  • @lubnahassan - Persian rulers in India, hundreds of years ago, mixed Persian words with Hindi and Urdu was born. You need to google the origin of these two languages. Yes, Hindi and Urdu has same words and that does not mean that there are no Ghazals in Hindi. You like to google Hindi Ghazals too.

  • @skdhupar BEautiful ghazal n0 need t0 fite 0n hindi 0r urdu

Definition of ghazal in different dictionaries .... A poetic form mostly used for love poetry in Turkish, Urdu, Arabic, and Persian . In poetry, the ghazal is a poetic form consisting of rhyming couplets and a refrain. Each line must share the same meter.

The subcontinental ghazals have an influence of Islamic Mysticism and the subject of love can usually be interpreted for a higher being or for a mortal beloved. ... Cont.....

  • @skdhupar

    contin - 2.1 ...

definition mentioned in The Great Soviet Encyclopedia (1979) .

a monorhymed lyrical poem, consisting usually of five to 12 bayt couplets; common in the poetry of the Near and Middle East and in Southeast Asia. As a genre, the ghazal developed from popular lyrical song, probably in the seventh century, and took its final shape in the 13th and 14th centuries. Only the second misra (hemistich) rhymes, except in the first bayt (matla) in which both misras rhyme.

  • conti 2.2

The rhyming pattern is aa, ba, ca, da. In the last bayt (maqta) the tahallus (pseudonym of the author) must be mentioned. As a rule, every bayt of the ghazal contains a completed thought with a self-contained meaning. Outstanding Persian and Tadjik poets (such as Saadi, Hafiz, Kamal, and later Jami), as well as Uzbek (Alisher Navoi) and Azerbaijani (Nizami) poets, have composed classical examples of the ghazal.

  • cont 2.3

Certain European poets who turned to Oriental themes used the ghazal form, including Goethe, Bodenstedt, and, in Russia, V. Briusov.

  • Cont 3 .. taken from different dictionaries .....

Ghazal ! The word originates from arabic, meaning, "way or mannerism of talking to or talking about women." Thus in fact it s an expression of love! But in this ever changing world the ghazal has become a reflection of the life around us, and now there is hardly any sphere of human interaction which the ghazal hasn't touched.

  • @skdhupar

No doubt , Urdu based on the Khariboli but Urdu developed under local Persian, Arabic, and Turkic influence over the course of almost 900-1000 years. So we cant say that the urdu is a mixture of persian and hindi only .

  • @BasheerAhmedKhan565a - You did a wonderful job of explaining the origin of Ghazals for all. Thanks.

  • @skdhupar

    you'r most welcome !

  • @BasheerAhmedKhan565a

Urdu is a language like the Hindu, they are both separate languages and has nothing common with each other, Hindi spoken by Hindu while the Urdu spoken by muslims, urdu is undersandable worldwide while Hindi only in India, if the Hindu don't like urdu then make your movies in Hindi and you will have no one to watch it except the Hindus in india, so be thankful to Urdu

  • @newyorker14040 what? now we fighting languages? You see the irony here? It is the language that is allowing you to fight. Each language is great where it is. At least leave languages out of fightings.

  • @newyorker14040 Urdu is not only spoken by Muslims nor in Hindi only spoken by Hindu's....where do you get such tunnel vision. do you know the amount of Christians and other non-muslims in Pakistan who speak Urdu....in addition, there are millions of Muslims in India who speak Hindi. Also, Hindi is actually MORE understood through the world as Indian film has crossed borders into Africa, Thailand, China etc. Also, there are more Indians world-wide speaking Hindi.

  • @newyorker14040 even language programs such as Rosetta Stone can be found in Hindi as opposed to Urdu which is very difficult to find language programs which are comprehensible and consistent in comparison to Hindi. I speak Urdu so I'm not speaking ill of it, but I'm also aware of the realities.

  • Not sure the world that you come from. From earth, I speak, you need to start from Indo-European family of languages. Once u r done with it, come to me and I will tell you about persian in detail......

  • @lubnahassan aare tum yahan bhi urdu hindi ke chakkar mein par gye atleast music ko to is chakar se dur rakho i think music is for listening and to enjoy so plsssssssssssss and one more thing there r plenty hindi words and above all only jagjit singh made these lyrics alive with his amazing voice

  • @lubnahassan

Lubna Hassan , you're absolutely right .. This ghazal is completely in urdu and no hindi words are used .

    Basheer Ahmed Khan

  • @BasheerAhmedKhan565a

boss hindi se badi uljhan hai aapko sari research ker dali

  • @hotindiguy

agar mujhe hindi se uljhan hoti to indian rare songs upload na karta . uljhan aap jaise logon ko hai jo sach ko nahin mante aur tanz shuroo kardete hain .. meri research to sirf is had tak hai ke ghazal urdu sinf hai . agar aap is baat par zid karna chahen ke ghazal english sinf bhi hosakti hai to phir do aur do paanch wali baat ho gayi . :)

  • @BasheerAhmedKhan565a Urdu like English is not a pure language. It has a combination of Arabic, Sanskrit and Persian as well as Turkic influences. Hindi is similar but influenced more by Sanskrit but both languages share many common words.

  • @lubnahassan Aap ko dekh gar dekhta reh gaya is all completely hindi bro ;)

  • @lubnahassan almost all the words are in hindi OR they are common to both hindi and urdu. tell me which word is not hindi.

  • brother I am Pashtoon.the people bleeded to death by the urdu-punjabi army of Pakistan. But the fact is this ghazal is Hindustani neither Hindi or Urdu. And an excellent of poetry and peak of creativity. An art and creativity belong to all humanity

  • وه ميري سامني كياً اور مي

راستيً كي طرح ديكتها ره كياً

  • Wah

  • Dil ko choney wala

  • Correction : the ghazal is in Hindi with significant Urdu influences, perhaps. It would be nice to have an English translation of it.

  • @ritubahar - You are absolutely right that this Ghazal has lot of Urdu influence. In fact, Ghazals are more suited when spoken in Urdu. In fact lot of Bollywood music has lot of Urdu influence as lot of song writers took advantage of Urdu and Hindi when composing songs.

  • Mashallah, such a well-sung ghazal by Jagjitji and such a nice presentation! I would like to know when this song was sung. What was the venue? And can I request the uploader for an English translation of this song? I am a Bangladeshi singer-composer. I don't understand much Urdu though. Artists like him do come to this country since many of us love his songs. But with all due respect, as artists they have a responsibility of not keeping their audience waiting for too long while on a concert.
