  • Beauty incarnate... Will we play nice?

  • Yep, that's Peter Gabriel on flute. This was recorded before the band he was in, Genesis, recorded their album Trespass.

  • I just arrived back from Kathmandu yesterday. . from Jakarta , Indonesia I went to Kathmandu 21-Nov 2011, until 25 Nov 2011. First time I heard Kathmandu song was in 1972 when I was in the high school. Since then seems Kathmandu inviting me to visit there. Thanks Allah and Mr. Yusuf Islam in composed this very unique, mystical and mysterical.. After 39 year, my dream come true, touching the wood and firing it, and visiting Haatiban and Bhaktipur etc. Really Fantastique !!!

  • @MrBamsar kathmandu became popular in the 60s for hippies....marijuana n weed was legal until 70s...thnx for visting kathmandu...im also from bhaktapur.

  • Cat,em sua eternas buscas...Linda viagem!E ele se encontrou!

  • lovely beyond words

  • i live in kathmandu.

  • I like this song because Peter Gabriel is in it.

  • @McCromful As far as I'm concerned Katmandu is just perfect and has very much in common with Genesis' early tunes. Peter Gabriel's contribution is excellent but I truly believe that this song's worth listening to anyway.

It belongs to a time when music could be surreal, magical , enchanting . Beautiful days, for ever gone

  • I am Buddhist. Do not fail to recall that Cat did "Buddha and he Chocolate Box." He is much much more than just a Muslim soul.

  • a very haunting song, so beautifully done, that only cat can do

  • It's such a magical song, I love it!!!

  • Who here knows that the title of the album is what Cat Stevens called his dick

  • hast to say this song is more beautiful than the Kathmandu

  • @terrybeaton Yes, it's true, Peter Gabriel said in an interview that this recording has been his first and last work as a session man because the guys at the studio recorded a derisive tape with all the murmurs, puffs and noises he was making to warm up before recording the flute part...

  • The city’s rich history is nearly 2000 years old, as inferred from an inscription in the valley. Its religious affiliations are dominantly Hindu followed by Buddhism. People of other religious beliefs also live in Kathmandu giving it a cosmopolitan culture. Nepali is the common language of the city, though many speak the Nepal Bhasa Newari as it is the center of the Newar (meaning: citizens of Nepal) people and culture.

  • this one's on my road trip playlist...on the way to Burning Man.

    always a favorite!

  • Peter Gabriel plays the flute in this song.

  • @aqualung Please show me some evidence of that. I'd love to find it's true!

  • @terrybeaton Hi beaton. You don't have to have the album (as I do the original vinyl) and look for musicians playing with him, just search in wikipedia under Mona Bone Jakon whick is the title of the album. Scroll donw and you will find the personnel.

Also he was the one who use to design his covers.

  • This song is so....cute =D

  • Amazing he released this album at 22 years old. I guess men really do feel a lot, and find...or lose ourselves during our youth. At 26, I wouldn't be surprised if someone told me I had already been happier, sadder, more in love, etc. than I ever would be again. Not many people (men especially) can convey those feelings so well. Too bad the masses only know about Peace Train..and Cat's in the Cradle..by Harry Chapin

  • One of the finest songs ever!

  • Peter Gabriel on flute!

  • I think this is one of SDG/CS/YI 's best songs, and also one of the more obscure. Don't know why it is not better known. Morning Has Broken was much bigger, but I think I prefer this.

  • @SuperNevile Me too- but Mornig has broken is still on my wishing list for my funeral

  • This is such a beautiful song. All I can say about Cat's religion is that he seems happy. I don't care what anybody says, either, he believes in the same God I do and other Christians, Muslims and jews too

  • 'Suzanne is away so lets talk about her FAT ARSE!'

  • @shanustheanus It's numbskulls like you that are why I keep coming back to Youtube we do get a bit carried away sometimes it's nice to be reminded of it.

  • @aberdown erm dont know where to start, you called me a numbskull? well I dont really have any feeling in my skull anyway as it is just bone. and people with skulls made out of bone are the reason you keep coming back to one of the internets most popular sites. Well okay, but i'm sure the rest of the world has a more valid reason. and it's nice to be reminded that we get carried away? well that's true, until you see grown up's without children waiting for hours to see harry potter. so erm thanks

  • @shanustheanus You have some good points no Hairy Poofter for me I know the difference between suspense and just plain boring.

  • @shanustheanus Why are there Karl Pilkington quotes here!??!

  • @LolaWolfLolek Because last year Ricky asked fans to put Karl quotes everywhere to confuse people so they look it up and discover Pilkers. He linked this video on his blog, because he loves the song and we erm...well we got carried away. But since Idiot Abroad, makes it all look rather pointless haha.

  • Whaou!!!

Wonderfull Man and super Humain Mann!

    Thak's for ALL!

    F.

  • Froggy says "buy it".

  • thats a place called katmandu, the capital of nepal, cat steven's singing about.

  • So there is this hairy Chinese kid, and he ages badly, cause they do it and that...

  • In the future, you'll be able to get up in the morning and have a chat with ya' yogurt while your eating it.

  • Peter Gabriel's on flute for this song! Can barely hear him. Apparantly, he was nervous as hell, so this was probably the best take.

  • @genesiscrimsonmusiKc But wasn't he just hauntingly beautiful?

  • Lil' monkey starts backing off with the gun and the money. It does a runner. Haven't seen it since.

  • Oh look , its Gayvid Grey the bent pionist

  • @chambodufc OOOOOoooh Hello!

  • Lovely song. Thanks Ricky

  • HLAFO

  • Hello Holy Fook

    "Heroow"

    "Errm, Mr Fook.."

"You can call me Holy if you want"

"No, i'll call you MR Fook thanks."

  • Did I ever tell you about the Immune System?

  • Cheers Gervais, Cheers Stevens, Legends.

  • What's tomato with you?

  • I'm kermit-ted to this treatment

  • i guess im not the only one who frequents Mr Gervais's blog. -Alright

  • colon then, educate me

  • There was this bloke who was a builder right? An er... you know what builders are like they sort of move about dont they from sort of building to building just building

  • People with no legs who want to be swimmers: DON'T BE STUPID!

  • You thumped a munky?

  • I wouldn't put a date on that pancake day anyway, just av 'em when you want, have it when you want. There's no big deal. You've got to make 'em yourself, it's not like some place is openin' to do it. Have em when you want. I don't know why that's got a special day on it, I'm sick of it

  • I could eat a knob at night.

  • Thanks Ricky to introducing me to Cat Stevens in the XFM years! Started a real love affair.

  • "i found some lovely little cafes on roads ive never been on" - Karl Pilkington

    Round headed twat.

  • @polpotsdog I love that a KP reference is here! But why here??

  • @LolaWolfLolek Ummmmm....a year is a long time...but I'm sure Ricky linked to this. Why I chose to quote the mighty sphere headed one is beyond me. Its a great quote though...seems to fit the song, which is weird.

  • @polpotsdog lol

  • Beautiful song x

    Karl Pilkington's got a head like a fucking orange!!x

  • I find no mistake in Cat Stevens converting to Islam as no religion is bad in my Opinion. I love Islam,Christanity,Hinduism,Buddhism and even Athiesm. What I dont like are Radical Fanatics who mislead people and create hate by misinterpreting religions.

  • Cat Stevens expressed sympathy for the victims of 9/11 and donated money to the victims. In fact he was invited to the US as a guest of the United States government to work with them. When his plane landed he was arrested because he was on a no fly list that the federal government did not even know he was on which shows the stupidity of such a list. He was released.

  • nice place nd nice song

  • I remember stumbling upon this song during my first year of college, and I instantly fell in love with it. It's since been a song I listen to to help anchor me in times of trouble or provide me peace when my soul is restless.

  • Nicely said.

I may never make it to Katmandu, but I hope I make it to its symbolic equivalent (-:

  • does anybody know if it's really peter gabriel on the flute?

  • @ASFAnarchist

    Yes, he is.

  • Just a beautiful song

  • The Cat was my man until he went off to Allah and called for the death of Rushdie, but I forgive you Cat Man, you seek God and a higher purpose and sometimes in so doing zealousness takes far to much out of any man.

  • you know he didnt really call for the death of rushdie. he just said that the punishment for blasphemy in Islam is death. which is pretty much the same in Christianity. he said ppl blew his words out of proportions.

  • @alienatedfreak23 No, it isn't the same as in Christianity. Killing someone for blasphemy is barbaric and evil, period, and there's no religion on the planet that's even close to as harsh as Islam on blasphemers.

  • @alienatedfreak23 Oh, to hell with him. Still a great song. Bet he will be surprised as hell when god judges him.

  • @ah123223 you are pathetic, why cant people just enjoy the music?

  • Comment removed

  • @alienatedfreak23 - ...and don't forget Judaism, as well ;)

  • @1mredneckmother I don't believe he called for the death of Rushdie. That was a misinterpretation of his words.

  • Cat Stevens is doG!

  • I'm a die hard Cat Stevens lover too. Thank you so much for posting all this sublime music.

  • im frm ktm(katmhandu) and i love cat.

  • Peter Gabriel added a beautiful touch with the flute, simply beautiful.

  • thank you for all this mona bone jakon material, my intro to Cat in 1970. And it is as beautiful and haunting as ever. Glad Yusuf is playing with Alun Davies. Saw them in 1971 and the memory is strong of their heartfelt performance that night.

  • favorite song! I'm seventeen by the way!;)

  • im proud of who ever you are dude i love cat stevens idk if thats weird at my age cuz im 15 but effin a its jus great music

  • Peter Gabriel (while a member of Genesis) played the flute parts on this track!
