  • Fantastic!

  • did Leadbelly used a Bajo Sexto in his songs?

  • @Adefesio94

not that I know of - he played 12-sring and 6-string guitars

  • NO Lead Belly NO Beatles- I didnt make that up George Harrison did! Go to the indiegogo site & look up leadbellyfilm

  • My kind of music. I also play this kind of 12-string. You remind me a little of Dave Ray

You're really fantastic Thanks for the great video!!

  • I recently started a facebook page for 12 strings, would welcome input if interested.

On facebook search " 12 string guitar fans "

    Cheers

  • nice! now there is true talent

  • whoa the head of the guitar is what got me!

  • its a 12 string guitar. its the same as a 6 string guitar but paired with extra strings to give it a different sound

  • i know...but when the first thing u see is the head of a 12 string guitar it looks crazy

  • Wait. This is driving me crazy. You've put something in there -- a Ma Rainey song...? Cripes. This is gonna drive me nuts. it's similar to Hattie Hudson's "Doggone My Good Luck Soul" (her answer to Lemon Jefferson's "Doggone My Bad Luck Soul" -- but the more relaxed tempo -- "Lord, Lord i wonder, what am i to do?" Dang -- i'm not gonna remember it -- but you've warped the Leadbelly song into this, in my mind at least. AHA! "Dream Blues" by Ma Rainey! With a mandolin, no less. CHECK IT OUT!

  • Indeed, checked out "Dream Blues" by Ma Rainey and the melody is the same. Borrowing melodies was not uncommon in those days.

The accompaniment is done by the Pruitt twins (guitar and banjo according the liner notes - the zingy-zangy sound of the mandolin is missing).

Check out Lottie Kimbrough's recordings with the Pruitt twins - very innovative guitarplaying - they replaced the G-string with a thin one tuned an ocatve higher - weird sound.

  • The hat. I can say no more. The song -- an interesting take on a Leadbelly song. Your style is far lighter, but you do it justice.

  • You kinda look like Bill Murray :p and great playing.

  • You have a great repertoire, style, technique and collection of hats!

It was watching your videos that inspired me to record some more. Keep them coming Daddy!

I like the Mance Lipscomb version of this song too.

  • Enjoyable fun! Thanks.

  • we love you, daddy !

  • Just when you thought you saw every side to the many sides of Daddy Stove Pipe...

  • Love this!---Randy

  • yay, stompin' hot!

    bravo!

    ...

    where's my old 12-string ...?!

  • A fine rendition of the song - well done!

  • awesome playing. now i want a 12 string guitar.

  • Great cover, I would pay to see you play. I am certain that if you travelled your fans would accommodate you. Another very acomplished performance. God Bless.

  • "Your A True Propagator Of Great American Music ! Obama should invite you to play at the White House.

Goodnight Irene was a big hit in the 50s I think, and my Dad sang it alot. When Bob

Dylan discovered LeadBellys song - House of the Rising Sun - his version was

'stolen' by Eric Burdon and the Animals who made it a World wide hit. Thanks for Honoring LeadBellys music!

  • oh, this is really nice, I love the beat, you're really good, 5 stars!

  • Ya nailed it again, Daddy. BTW, where'd you bag that hat? I've got one just like it!

    Nepalese, I think.

  • Bought the hat at the Feathered Pipe Ranch in Montana, about 10 years ago. The owners of the ranch went to India a lot so it's from there for sure.

  • Amazingly good as usual!

    Congrats,

    Chris

  • OH hell yeah!!

Either I missed any Leon Redbone you've done, or I'm REQUESTING IT right now.

    *hint-wink-nudge!!!*

  • great playing mate very accurate

  • Do you pair your strings the same or an octave apart?

Great version, and I'm digging the new hat!

  • Normal 12-str setup; the first two courses are pairs, the rest octaves.

  • Yeah, go dude. Nice one.

  • Great Job. wish i could play 6 strings.

  • Just the greatest 5***** G.G.

  • Prachtig zoals altijd... en een stevig ritme

  • great song and great performance! 5***** and faved

  • You are so talented.

I think it would really help you if you practiced with a metronome, though. Don't knock it 'til you try it!

    Keep it up!
