I recall being at home when a friend called with the news and told me to come over. And we all went over to his place and watched the news and listened to the Beatles and wept till our eyes burned. It was one of those days when you knew something really good and important had gone out of the world and there was a lot less magic in it. That was a dark day. Yet, for better or worse, life goes on. We can be thankful for that.
@JohnnyPocketAble, I think you're lacking a little historical context. Around that time, violence was RAMPANT in the U.S., and New York was one of the most violent cities in the country. It was just three years prior that the Son of Sam murders occurred there. Giuliani did wonders but NY was a mess for a long time
We should all participate in what Lennon always wanted. Peace and love. All guns and bombs should be destroyed. I know, I sound crazy, but it would be ideal.
Im British 100% and its got fuck all to do with living in America ,not sure what they are going on about as a matter of fact John Loved America and New York City and its people , America made john more of a Icon , i have alot of respect for the American's and so did John RIP.....MISS YOU MATE!!
also fuck these english fuckers in this segment that say "this could only happen in america". i'm pro-gun control regulation but that's fucking bullshit for these smug assholes to pretend that murder is an american phenomenon.
@johnnypocketable That's because handguns aren't legal in the UK, even their cops on the street don't carry guns. The UK has some of the toughest gun control laws in the world. If you want to own a gun, it is very difficult to do so, you need to spend hours filling in paperwork and proving to police officers that you are not a danger to society. Whereas in the US you can state it's your constitutional right. They've got fewer gun related deaths, that's for sure.
@bloomcountyUSA okay, one day later and more sober, i'll say this. i'm well aware of the contrast between US gun laws and (simplifying a continent here) eurpoean gun laws. they have fewer gun-related deaths by country, but i ask you to simply compare population size. i won't defend my country's gun laws anymore than this: it's a 200+ year old issue, with all the complexities that those many years imply.
@johnnypocketable I agree, that offended me too. I guess take it with a grain of salt because those people were shocked and angry and they were lashing out.
i love paul, and the controversy over this interview is overblown, but he did totally come off as a callous asshole, and he deserves some of the criticism he got.
I love how Gerry Rivers keeps callings them "The Lennon's" when we ALL damn well know that really the title is "John & his ugly little service monkey"
@PookaDude42 ... I'm sorry but that IS funny Sooooo VERY funny. It's regrettable that YOU have no sense of humor, but ... "Yoko = ugly little service monkey" is damn funny! :O)
@somany5 You know what, fuck it. Don't bother responding. Trolling is one thing, but you've crossed the line. I don't care whether you really mean it or not. You have been reported and blocked. Have a nice life, asshole.
@forelise89 - NO, Yoko the ugly little service monkey killed John Lennon, it is a well document FACT that she resented him having security guards when he was out in the city. 3 days before that piece of shit Chapman killed him the service monkey dismissed his entire security team saying that "John was a man of the people who he needed to be among his fans & the security was preventing that from happening" so they were fired! Had they been with John that night he'd be alive today- THANKS YOKO :O(
Lennon's assassination was a marker in time for the Baby Boomer generation, much like the JFK Assassination was for the Greatest generation.....and like 9/11 was for the Tech Generation.
i don't blame america for this and the fact that they allow guns to be carried. if he wanted to kill john lennon, which he obviously did, he wouldn't care if it was against the law to carry a gun or not..
@dairien2012 New York City has draconian gun control laws. Everything Chapman did was illegal from the time he arrived in NYC. He did not have a concealed carry permit and did not murder Lennon just because the opportunity presented itself. He stalked Lennon and would have obtained an illegal gun if he could not have obtained a legal one.
well this death started te madness of evil on 12/08/1980 well reagan winning over carter no loss of life on 11/04/1980 but 12/08/1980 the death of peace and birth to war to come on reagan wiht his Inaugration In 1981 01/20, his shooting 03/30/81, he telling pilots to go back to work 08/10, and he allowing wall steet and the bar code to rule this was manmade their was spiritual evil too but 555 ain't 666 let you kno lennon I still admire his leagcy lives forever normal I will say despite of evil.
@rafaelmadferit just because people use weapons for evil you cannot condemn them because of a few psychos. The reason we have the right to bear arms is because if our government were ever to suppress us again, we have the right to take arms against any type of oppressor. If only the oppressors are allowed weapons, then they have power over you and like the Nazi someone like you would be lead to the gas chambers with little to no resistance.
@jamesellis33 Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit. We don't have a "right to bear arms"; the second amendment guarantees the right to form police power which is always collective. Think getting into a shooting match saves your democracy? Think again.
@ChrisDutch "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
@KevServo Thanks for quoting the amendment. Since five separate Supreme Court rulings and over forty lower court rulings have stated that the amendment does NOT grant an individual right to keep and bear arms, only a collective right as in police, National Guard etc I do appreciate the backup.
I hope mark chapman dies a slow and painful death that's so horrible hitler would puke if he saw it and burns in the pits of hell. You will never be forgotten John your legacy shall always be followed and remembered for eternity
He left a billion dollars but his real legacy is his music. WOW. Thats deep.
