  • Definitely the best scene in any movie i've ever seen, loved this, especially the fact that he puts the cigar in his pocket then at the end takes it out and puts it back in his mouth.

  • So realistic shooting :)

  • Must have been an extra capacity clip in that Thompson! :)

  • brilliant

  • Best cohen scene ever

  • This is the kind of scene every director wishes they had directed. It's almost tearfully, epically beautiful.

  • that's one bad ass old man

  • Clearly, the best rendition of 'Danny Boy' there is

  • My favorite scene from my favorite movie. At this point in the film the viewer's impression of Leo is that he is a buffoon. The Coens needed this scene to make us understand why Leo is in charge. We totally understand after seeing it. :) Badassery on a whole other level. Thanks for posting. I love watching this.

  • Thanks for posting! My friend Ed, from Waterford, Ireland, used to say this is the "best scene in a movie about anything." Albert Finney still kicks much monkey ass, and it's kind of sad that this is one of the least well-known of the Coen Brothers' films. Great scene. Great flick!

  • messed with the wrong guy ...

  • albert finney sure earned his paycheck in this scene alone.

  • 1st a Thompson does not hold that many rounds and no one would be standing after getting hit by the first few rounds. Love the movie though

  • I love this film, one of my favourite Coen bros. efforts- this scene in particular stands out, I cant hear 'Danny Boy' without seeing Albert Finney striding down the road Thompson blazing

  • Fuckers tried taking out Kid McCoy!

  • @jorgekluney They already got Seano (I don't even like him) and Sinister

  • @HoganHassan Good points.

But, MC Paul Barman can also handle a Thompson pretty well.

We might just be able to fight back the forces!!

  • @jorgekluney War Kid McCoy! Fuck Sherdog!

  • @jlunit416 damn straight!!

  • My favourite gangster scene.

  • I like this scene because, 1 it's awesome, and 2 it shows off Leo's psychic abilities when he transfers bullets into the Thompson with his mind, so he doesn't have to reload.

  • the rumpus?

  • I love this scene, but how the fuck many bullets are in a tommy gun's cartridge?

  • @lonsumtravlr - 100 with the circular drum. I think that's been exceeded. :)

  • They guys must of bought their guns from S-Mart. Where Bruce Cambell bought his shotgun that holds 100 rounds.

Seriously. This movie is a classic. This scene alone is why I bought it.

  • You had to love those "Chicago Typewriters"

  • Im no expert on firearms but isnt it notoriously difficult to fire an automatic weapon like that without it running out of ammunition or overheating or the mechanism jamming up? I know its a film but that takes the hollywood reload rule piss just a little bit.

  • i saw this when i was 17, senior year in high school, by myself, nothing to do on a Tuesday night at a 2 dollar theater. i was enthralled, ENTHRALLED.

movies like this don't make it past the "preferred crap" nowadays.

  • go grampa

  • thanks for posting. i know it is over the top but great to see albert finney and the cohen brothers did a great job.

  • Wow that house caught fire quickly.

  • Frank Patterson was a great singer. RIP

  • Up the Irish.

  • still one of the toughest scenes I think..

  • why is this not on Bluray?

  • @maxxgraber Because the world is cruel and irrational.

  • i love this scene.. hes so dam bold with experiance

  • I also would make sure to put my slippers on before greasing multiple would be assasins with the worlds coolest machine gun.

  • Jeeeebus....how much rounds does that clip hold? :/

  • I was a production assistant on Miller's. This scene was shot in a combination of locations (if I remember correctly) 2 houses, a street exterior and four different sets on stage. The first shot, up until one gangster lets the other in the door, was done in Ann Rice's house. Finney's bedroom was two sets, one with the floor about four feet off of the ground to shoot under the bed. Just a little trivia.

  • @rwentz21 Thanks for the personal insight of the filming of this movie, mate. I can't imagine you're still a production assistant now, are you? Still work in the movies?

  • I've watched this movie on Fox Movie Channel.

  • man, an absolutely flawless scene - the part when they show him stepping into his fancy slippers.. a perfect touch. you can tell he's been through worse.

  • how many fucking bullets does that thing hold?!

  • Awsome scene with infinity gun.

  • The best scene in a great movie. Thanks for posting.

  • Is there a "Very Favorite Ever" list to which i can assign this sequence?

  • ........so badass.

  • Since youre talking about plausibility, the gun should have fired with the impact when he tossed it out of the window.

  • @GhostSnake if the gun was made properly is will not fire.

  • Finney Rocks.

That reminds me of a similar scene in Lord of War

  • Best movie scene ever!

  • Let's talk about how many times that old man didn't get shot. Nice scene, but seriously. Can he be a little less permeable to machine gun fire?

  • Is this a homage to C'era una volta il West? Or is the whole Danny boy thing just coincidence?

  • This is one of the coolest scenes in cinema history!

  • People keep talking about the number of rounds fired but the truly impossible thing is the way he never stops firing. First thing you're taught in automatic weapons training is to fire in short, controlled bursts. If you don't then you lose control of the weapon. It's still an entertaining scene and all that didn't occur to me till much later.

  • One of the Coen Brothers best signature pieces.

  • Just FYI, that round clip holds a hundred rounds. Not that I counted how many he fired.

  • @kpz1234

Considering he spent 30+ seconds firing a gun that fires at a rate of 600 rpm minimum, it's pretty safe to say he shot well over the 100 round capacity of the drum. When the gun uses .45 ACP, you certainly don't need to shoot a person more than a few times to kill them. Even if he had terrible accuracy and the movie stretches the actual firing time out, he must have put over 50 bullets in the guy in the window.

  • is this movie worth 2 buy?

  • Totally recommended.

  • @matthewinnj08 absolutely. you keep catching new things each time. the dialog is so snappy, i missed some of it the first couple times.

  • Did anyone else enjoy that little dance he did at 2:23? XD

  • This is absolutely the finest version of Danny Boy as sung by Frank Patterson that has ever been recorded.

I met Frank once and told him so and he was so very gracious and humble.

This version will turn anyone into an Irishman just like the leprechaun can.

    What a scene!!

  • LOL Beaconmike that was fucken hilarious. Im Polish-Irish & German American & I know what u mean. My name is Danny by the way.

  • When I first saw the movie upon initial release all those years ago, this is the scene (together, of course, with the famous 'walk in the woods') that I remembered most distinctly for a long time.

But then, I'm Irish and relentlessly nostalgic by nature.....;)

    Thanks for this.

  • Reminds me of my wasted youth.

  • The scene is done so well, you don't even think about the fact that he's firing more than 5 clips worth of bullets without reloading.

  • haha i was thinking about that the whole time

  • Well, you don't really care.

  • very agile for an old man lmao

  • this is the best scene in the whole movie thanks for uploading ityeah:,D!!!!

  • Lanny Flaherty @ 3:46

  • wats the revolver he uses

  • That's a .45 Colt New Service.

  • thanx

  • Ah the Coen brothers, long may they carry on making movies! Awesome film and full of so many great moments like this. I see what you mean about the Thompson although that is bulky enough to be the 100 round drum magazine they made for it.

  • The imdb says Leo fired 524 rounds without reloading. He really is an artist with a Thompson!

  • Well then that's definitely dramatic licence but it's still a great scene. The Thompson weighs around 20 pounds with a 100 round drum and that's bad enough. I guess there's a point when film makers realise that they should break with reality a bit for good effect.

  • LOL!!!

  • @Silkie341 Thats a 50 round drum though, lol. Still reloading would totally kill the flow of the scene, haha

  • 2:24 hand jive....hand jive....hand jive...doin' that crazy hand jive!

  • takky9298:

    hahahaha! jazz hands

  • Coolness at it's highest level.

  • I wish I had a Thompson...

  • Epic cinematic moment

  • I agree. It's simply beautiful.

  • millers crossing, stil pwning in 2010

  • Great movie no doubt. Freaks me out when the guy shoots his own feet amazing!!!!!

  • personally, I think every college kid should rip the Scarface poster off their wall and replace it with one of Alfred Finney, his smoking gun, and his smoking cigar. but that's just me.

  • @bluemonkjd

    It's Albert, not Alfred.

  • @bluemonkjd Let's not go overboard...This movie is indeed better than scarface but Pacino's character has no rival. This scene is amazing but Scarface's 'say hello to my little friend' scene is epic.

  • @bluemonkjd Frank Petterson's cover of Danny Boy and Alfred Tinney with a Cigar and a Tommy Gun. Talk about BADASSERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @bluemonkjd Great idea.

  • I like the car randomly sets on fire... and then randomly explodes 10 seconds later lol

  • he put the code for infinite ammo

  • at 1:52 the bullets should have gone trough the bed

    awesome scene otherwise

  • Best movie scene ever.

  • Amen!!

  • lol, besides so many shots from a 50 round magazine, how many .45 rounds can one guy take and still stand on his feet?

  • i think that was the cohen brothers attempt at comedy lol

  • The Coens just went all John Woo in there, maybe some day they`ll make an action flick, and fcking rock the genre

  • what an epic scene

    just watched the movie

    had to rewind this

  • Oh yeah. You don't fuck with an Irishman with infinite ammo

  • @NorwegianDirector u dont fuck with an italian, period.

  • @alibaba666ification But he's Irish.

  • @jorgekluney i was replying to another person, who said that u dont fuck with an irishman with unlimited magazines.

  • i've shot a thompson before and the recoil on one those guns is pretty strong, you would definitly have to be an artist to acurately shoot that gun. one of my fav. scenes right here.

  • God yes!

  • Best god;dammed shootout ever filmed!!

  • Hi, not looking for a fight, but the shootout scene in "Heat" beats this....Dont get me wrong, I have watched this movie so much I can say the script....But check out "Heat"....Cheers!

  • you cant really compare the two. Heat is a realistic movie, but the shootout here is clearly a formalistic and fantastic shootout. they're completely different, but still both great scenes.

  • Agreed!

  • @fpsfreak

    You obviously don't know anything.

  • put that cigar out. . . then light it the fuck up. . . BADASS

  • the Coen Brothers always make a good movie

  • you fucking bet

  • Reminds me of the last time two guys tried to assassinate me and I shot one right on top of the head.

  • the first guy was probably dead after the initial 1350 rounds those extra 850 bullets were wasted

  • Don't fuck with this Irishman. They don't loose their balls as they age.

  • The only shame is that this clip should've ended at 3:44.

  • But then it wouldn't have included the quote in the title.

  • A bullet ballet. Genius.

Shame this is so dark, or is it me?

  • Always loved the way Leo handles himself here, has the cool assurance of a gangster who's survived other assassination attempts!

  • i know someone knows the answer to this question. who sings this version of "Danny boy"?? i need to know like now

  • Frank Patterson. It's the best version by far.

  • CIW voor jou, CIW voor mij :)

    Helse Shotlist...

  • Absoluut -_-'

  • True..

  • thats so fuckin gangster when hes walkin down the road after the car

  • This is a great scene, but why is the aspect ratio messed up?

  • gangster as fuck!

  • He dudded the cigar out and put it in his robe pocket.

  • i wish im that bad ass when im old.

  • Fantastic scene - BUT - A Thomson machine gun holds about 50 rounds, right? He fired a lot more than 50 rounds there...and where´d the cigar come from at the end? Thought he put it in the ashtray. Ah, Indistrial Light & Magic special effects...

  • There were 100 round drums available for the Thompson SMG.

I think he fires even more than that also, but hey, it's still awesome.

  • well, there is a 100 round drum for the thompson, but he probably fired a lot more than 100 rounds. It was obviously overdone, but in its defense, gangsters in that day had an uncanny nack for modifying weapons, so who knows maybe you could say his held more.

  • it would have made more sence if he took the other guys chicago typewriter and started shooting at the drive bye. but he would have to had to have killed the othere thug before he lept from his roof. would have been more realistic. but thats hollywood for ya. but either way it was a BAD ASS scene non the less.

  • i agree

  • Comment removed

  • Leo must've been very strong because the recoil on a Thompson is a mutherfuker but he held it down smooth and steady. My favorite scene.

  • That movie is really good. The Coen's can make em great

  • What would made this scene would be if Leo had of lit up his cigar off the hot barrell! :p

  • That would have been excellent for sure!!!

  • This scene is so powerful because it's just one guy, an old one at that, taking on a bunch of gangsters out on a hit on him. Plus Leo is Fearless. Plain and simple. Beautiful Showdown.

  • Best movie scene ever.

  • Definately my favorite part in the movie.

  • Brilliant scene for a movie lover. Heaven for an Irishman.

  • Those are 45 caliber bullets those holes would be much larger

  • i think he spent more bullets than a B17 would have carried

  • Fantastic scene, one of my favourites. Although the M1928 Thompson only carries 50 rounds in it's drum barrel magazine, and there he shot well over 170 without reloading, lol.

  • Only in the movies can a guy get shot 75 times and dance around doing the Jitterbug the whole time. In reality, after one or two shots he'd hit the floor.

  • One has to have a bit imagination, lol.
