@ProspectorSam I'd never heard this song either till I bought a Utopia greatest hits CD in January 1999. I assume it originally came out in early 80's. There's alot of great music never played on radio. And MTV or VH1 isn't likely to play it anymore. So I guess the Warners don't want to promote this great music by allowing it to be heard here. It's their loss.

Wow that takes me back. Todd hired me to make the costumes for this song- it was one of my early costume gigs. Todd wanted a lot of feet so insects have a lot of feet.

The muscians were all in blue suits for the chroma key technique of inserting backgrounds. The actual background was the size of a dollhouse.

Just to set the record straight...This was the SECOND VIDEO EVER ON MTV. The first was "video killed the radio star" by the Bungles. This is Todd Rundgren and Utopia, circa 1982. The song is off the self-titled LP called "Utopia". Hope that helps everybody out! (As for the TUBES references...TR produced alot of music for them, hence the similarity in sound.)

Rundgren is an odd bird, but a good bird. Its really hard to categorize his music. Its rock, yes. ...but its also...I dont know what? The secret ingredient is probably Todds intelligence (he has a genius level IQ) and intelligence really stands out in rock-esp from that period. Thanks for posting!

I think that the stripped bug is Roger Powell (keyboards), the purple bug is Willie Wilcox (drums), and the green bug is Kasim Sultan (bass). I got to meet them in Boston for an in-store promo and they were so nice to chat with.
