  • @axelaxelmcr i get it, it makes a difference if its about homosexuals. I'd still react the same to the film if its about a man and a woman because i treat homsexuals as ordinary people. The story is deep but for a story about the two cowboys that spans about 20 years, its too artsy for it that adds no specialty to it. So bamanck is right, Brokeback Mountain is ovverrated.

  • the only reason people wanted BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN to win was because gay couples, we all know how tolerant people want to be of gay couples. if it wasnt about a gay cowboy they're wouldnt be a problem that crash won, honestly crash to me was way better

  • @bamanck & thats the reason BB should´ve won the oscar...its about homosexuals...right!...its a deep story?...yes...its polemical?...yes...it have changed the way of thinking about homosexuality in people? yes, its revolutionary?..yes...so.. sorry.. is not overrated.

  • I think Brokeback deserved it because it was so deep. The fact that they were two men adds a plot twist but if a movie this good were made between a man and a woman I think it still would have deserved to win. In this movie the characters were very real and I could understand their emotion. Most love stories are not like that for me.

  • Brokeback deserved the oscar! But if any movie was worth the oscar that year apart from BM it was Munich, not Crash!!! Crash was lame in many aspects. Only some American critics saw Crash as a great film. It was so basic

  • Rupert Grint 0:54!! :D

  • WHAT"S VOLDEMORT DOING AT 0:25 ?

  • brokeback mountain IS a better story, simply because it IS between two men. The film isn't just about banging secretely in a tent, its all about having such a deep, passionate secret that if anyone were to find out it would destroy everything. The film is different, and there isn't much else like it out there on the market. Then again, Crash is really unique too, but i enjoyed brokeback mountain more tbh.

  • I think people are a little biased. Just because Brokeback Mountain was about a love story between two men doesn't make it anything special. In the end, Crash is a better film.

  • BBM is an all-time great, doing quite well in the best of the decade lists of the past 18 months (top 5 when you compile, with There Will Be Blood, Mulholland Drive and Eternal Sunshine). Crash is a bad film, period, and even Paul Haggis said BBM should have won. The BAFTAs, the Critics, even the Globes have far more integrity than the Academy of the past 20 years, its all about politics for them.

  • (2) Michael Pena scenes with his family,Matt Dillon's scenes with Terrance Howard and Thandie Newton were the only things that saved this movie for me (and that intense crash scene with Matt and Thandie.the rest was predictable dialogue and story lines and racial jabs,it got boring. Now BBM,nothing like it before, nor there will be again. Its a tragic love story..look pass the "gay coyboys" (thats all people say about it) most people who trash it havent seen it, or cant get over 2 dudes together

  • (1)i found crash pretentious and overdone, ike Ludacris's character...really? annoying and overdone,no one acts like that,it could have been Oscar worthy, but they overdid the racial themes, and the script at times was silly. i couldnt help but laugh at Sandra Bullock's rant about the lock, something about the locksmith's "homies breaking in".or Don Chedle saying "i gotta go im having sex w/ a mexican".stupid.

  • blah blah blah brokeback mountain didn't win because crash was a better film, deal with it

  • That's so unfair & it's 2011 and I'm still mad!

They should have won Oscar best picture and Heath Ledger was way better than PSH. As for Jake Gyllenhaal , I never though him much of an actor until then! He totally should have W O N! Clooney was shallow

  • The better picture won that year. Brokeback mountain was definitely not bad but Crash was a better film.

  • Comment removed

  • I still remember how Brokeback Mountain made me feel. But Crash? What's Crash? I don't remember anything.

  • and really, thumbs up if any of you thought that brokeback mountain deserves best picture and best actors too!

  • Before the Academy Awards, BBM at that point was the MOST honored film in cinema history. It was shocking that it didn't win the Oscar. It was definitely due to politics and homophobia. People who can appreciate quality film know what a travesty this was. Crash is magnitudes of orders inferior to a film like BBM. Crash insulted my intelligence and left me pissed off. I'm sure it would have done well at a people's choice award voted by 4th graders..."oh cool, everything is connected..wow" duh

  • @chitownchill Agreed. Brokeback director Ang Lee won the Best Director Oscar, but the film loses...Heath Ledger loses to the terribly overrated PSH.

  • Ron Weasley at :56

  • Crash was a movie of the week with a story that a child could have written. It was the homophobia of the Academy which couldn't give the award to a gay story.

  • those seats look well comfy.

  • @link64lol What are you smoking? Crash sucked. It was the worst movie ever to win the Oscar. Nobody talks about that pathetic movie but people still talk about Brokeback which is now iconic. Crash didn't deserve to win anything. It was an awful movie that was written by somebody who had to be retarded.

  • @ExtonJock what are you smoking? your reply sucked. it was the worst reply to ever hit youtube. Nobody ever pays attention to your pathetic reply anymore but people will still look back and realize brokeback mountain was just a bad movie. Brokeback mountain deserved actor nominations not best picture nominations the actors held the movie together even at its most ridiculously weak bad points. your response was awful and it had to of been written by someone retarded.

  • @ExtonJock : totally agree with you. Brokeback Mountain will go down in history of cinema, can't say the same for Crash though.

  • 'Crash' is for homophobes; 'Brokeback Mountain' is for everyone else.

  • @jslasher1 chill. i love both films :) and certainly not a homophobe since I'm gay, haha.

  • @jslasher1 wait which version and how bad could it be

  • @jslasher1 whats crash?

  • At least it got this bafta award.... although it has to be said the better film won the Oscar...

  • Ephithet? Oh come on everyone knows it was to create something around "GAY" and also, if it hadn't of been Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllanhaal (Heath really) rather than rest of cast. Fucking movie wouldn't of been considered anything worth while to even speak of!.

  • The title of this video is so completely childish. I liked Brokeback Mountain, but Crash was the most memorable in my opinion. Happy for both films and their accomplishments.

  • Crash was a great film. Get over it.

  • lmfao

white people's award shows always boring xD

  • @Sakura2309 What race are you korean trying to be Japanese?

  • in my own humble opinion, 'crash' was shit. BB was honest and brave and beautiful :)

  • Who's that weird guy sitting next to Jake Gyllenhaal? I can't work it out he's not in the movie :S

  • thank god they won something... was really disappointed when they didn't win the oscar for this movie

  • Brokeback Mountain deserves a lot more of honour.

This film is breathtaking authentic and no pseudo-dramatic Hollywood production.

  • Eh, what's so great about that movie? It's just two gay guys that cheat on their wives. Yeah, that's so beautiful.

  • @Kass1964

No, "Brokeback Mountain" is about the closet and the horrors of what living in it can do to people.

  • @newmark401 Well, can't they show that without them committing adultery?

  • @Kass1964

No, because they both got married, but stayed in touch and met up later on as well. Life is complicated.

  • @newmark401 Yeah, well. I just think the movie was crap. I don't feel bad for them. I feel bad for the women they cheated on. That's all.

  • @Kass1964 So I suppose you think The Godfather was crap, because you felt bad for all the guys that got shot in it? It's called fiction. There's wrongdoing and crime in almost every movie, and it's usually the rubbish movies that don't

  • @fantana124 Never saw it. And I'm not saying I have a problem with violence or cheating in movies. I'm just saying it's hard to feel bad for the guys when they're cheating.

  • @Kass1964 I was using The Godfather as an example- it's critically acclaimed as the best film ever, and it deals with crime and violence. If that's not what bothers you, what is it? Unsympathetic characters? In any case, Jack and Ennis are characterised sympathetically. Don't you realise sympathetic characters can still have flaws?

  • @fantana124 Yes, I understand that, but I can't feel sympathetic for them if they deceive and hurt people that they "love" on purpose.

  • @Kass1964 thats because ur living a superficial life, u just believe what u just see, without even analyzing the major implication of the story of this film based on society's approach on homosexuality.

  • That wasn't even close to how "The Wings" goes at the beginning.

  • I can't believe that piece of shit Crash beat BB for the Oscar. One of many recent Oscar travesties.

  • Without those "air heads" in LA you wouldn't even have BBM. But I agree that BBM should have won Best Picture. But in the end who gives a fuck about awards?

  • awesome film, so glad it won. but i rekon its not about gays, i thought they were bisexual, but i might be wrong, that's just what it looks like to me...

  • 1:40

i am not surprised that Stephen Fry liked this film ;-)

  • @arizona799 So what? Crash SUCKS

  • at least the BRITISH got it right..shame AMERICANS got it wrong...

  • LOL at "forget the Oscars". More like "who gives a fuck about the BAFTAs". There's a reason why the Oscars are watched all over the world. It is every actor's dream to win an Oscar. The Oscars are bigger than EVERY other award show out there combined, period. Who cares if they don't get it right all the time, people still wait every year to find out who's winning an Oscar, not who's winning a BAFTA. LMAO.

  • I've noticed several of your negative comments regarding the UK and it's connotational meanings. You obviously know nothing of the Oscars if you think they "...are watched all over the world." Have you not noticed for the last decade the miserly viewing figures in the United States? And, how do you know they are watched all over the world?

BTW, if you're "LMAO", as an American, you probably need the exercise!

  • What "negative comments" are you talking about? Great, I have a youtube stalker!

And that last sentence...if that was your attempt at humor, you failed miserably. Now talk to me again when you grow a fucking brain. Buh-bye.

  • How predictable!

  • @MisSeductive

that may well be so, although certainly the interest in Oscars has been declining, possibly because they've been choosing so miserably. anyway, isn't it rather superficial to say specifically that it's more important how "big" an award is than whether the right movies are honoured? that comment alone gives you a pretty clear picture of what the Oscars are worth - not much, if their "bigness" accounts for more than their actual choices. May I suggest that you missed the point?

  • It's OK to be 3rd best, BBM fans.

  • those leopard-print seats are sweet.

  • You clearly don't know film. Why don't you go back to watching Transformers or some BS movie.

  • A movie watched as a result of pressure of reviews/publicity is not a good movie. Brokeback draws the viewer in from initial lush panoramic cinematography to zoom in on a highly intimate study of love both sexual/non sexual both homo/heterosexual. Performances are superb. Ledger/Gyllenhaal deserve rightfull praise but Williams is as good if not at times better. Jake is a canny chooser. He was in THE movie of 2005 and again in THE movie of 2007 (Zodiac)both of which flew well below the radar.

  • Brokeback is a socially and culturally important movie, I cannot dispute this. People should see it. I feel the same about Crash, though. But set aside the "gay" issue, Brokeback becomes a by the numbers Romance with lovely cinamatography and fine performances. Set aside the "racism" issue of Crash, you still get a movie of interwoven plotlines with complex and very real characters showing how events that seem to be completely unrelated still impact one another. Crash is simply a better film.

  • wow at 00:56 u can see rupert grint from harry potter (ron weasly ) wow he is soooo hooooooot .

  • 0.16 u know heath is on sumfin...

  • @sammytheturk Heaths not on anything at all his arms were always stiff like that!!!jeeze

  • The Brokeback Mountain vs Crash Fiasco showed the Oscars for what they really are: Pointless and very insignificant.

What gets to me though, is how the world still sees the Oscar as THE top award. You can't buy a DVD without reading on the cover how many oscars that film won. This is a great pity as the Oscars made so many unforgivable mistakes in the past.

  • Oscar = shit. Better than Brokeback did not win those awards infamous.

  • Thank you so much for posting this.

  • Crash = Trash u_U!! Brokeback is the best!! film ever!

  • Man, Crash blows. It was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The fact that Brokeback Mountain lost best picture at the oscars is completely absurd.

  • The Oscar for this year will always be remembered. Not for who won, but for who didn't win; Brokeback Mountain.

  • @816cameron Homophobic academy members. I am still dissapointed to this day.

  • @Alberto9871 Me too! Would it be useless to demand a recount at this point? :)

  • @MadMaddy1200 I want the Crash cast to return that Oscar so the homphobe academy can give it to Brokeback Mountain. That'd be fair.

  • @Alberto9871 There's really no justice for the wronged.

  • @MadMaddy1200

    absolutely

  • oh come on, i can`t hear it anymore: Crash was not as good as brokeback mountain, crash is shit bla bla bla...

I´m gonna tell you something: theses movies are totally different. but i love both of them. they are both great in different ways.

  • Crash is a fine movie, it's just that Spike Lee has done any number of films about race with so much more depth and complexity than that movie. Crash is fluff, maybe well done fluff with some good performances, but still fluff.

Brokeback Mountain is one of the best movies of the decade in my opinion. It's so beautiful and so emotional.

  • empty title.

  • It´s a scandal that it didn´t get the Oscar! I´m still disappointed.

  • @DreamgirlM and they said it was because of the "conservative" academy members. Well I've got one word for them: HOMOPHOBES.

  • @DreamgirlM It's also a scandal that Heath Ledger lost Best Actor to Philip Seymour Hoffman.

  • jack nichololsons face when crash won was priceless.

i agree with him brokeback should have won.

crash was excellent, but not as good.

  • Till this day I dont understand how Crash won.

  • Oh god I know.

  • man thats sad to see heath ledger again

  • I hate the"politically correct" of some comments here....

  • 1:04 Profesor X

  • PAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

that comment just made me crack up for some reason :D

  • LOL! yes, prof. X.

also commonly known as Patrick Stewart

  • atleast the BRITISH got it right

  • Could somebody tell me the names of the actors in the audience in order they are shown, please?

    Thanks:-)

  • renee zellweger - presenter

    jake gyllenhaal

    heath ledger and michelle williams

    catherine keener

    matt dillon and date

    ralph fiennes (!)

  • brokeback mountain still is a great film, crash...nobody remember crash

  • i agree 100 percent Brokeback Mountain should have won the academy award for best picture and it is great to see it win here. i cannot believe crash won. Brokeback is a beautiful picture and it always will be. Rest in Peace Heath.

  • Who's that woman at 0.55?

  • hi, she is catherine keener, a great actress

  • I'm not trying to badmouth the movie, I'm just saying that if you were to replace Heath Ledger's character with a woman, the movie wouldn't have done half as well.

  • It seems as though that tactic worked, as the movie won more best picture awards than Schindler's List. Had it won the Oscar, I think that it would have become like Titanic, Dances with Wolves etc. - movies that got an amazing amount of praise & hype for long enough to get them many awards, but once it wore off they were instead used as evidence in the age-old 'the Academy are idiots' talk. Crash would not have been my choice for Best Picture either, but I wasn't really bothered by its win.

  • The story is a universal love story between 2 persons. It is unversial in the sense that the love itself is intrinsically no different from any other love. However, what's unique is that, given the time and places in the story, this love was burdened/tortured by social intolerance, taboo, fears, and ignorance. It's a very delicate and compelling story-telling. If you think you can just replace the 2 gay characters with 2 straight men, obviously you didn't spend any time to understand the story.

  • nothing new or original? Not sure what you menat by that. I'm sure, at least, the screen play is original instead of plagiarism. I would say the story line is new as I've not read another story that's the same or similar. Otherwise, you can pretty much say the same thing ("nothing new and original") about just every single movie (including every single heterosexual love movie).

  • Get lost you son of a bitch!!! This place isn't for people like you.

  • Not Brokeback Mountain fans....Heath's fans....if you're not his fan what are doing here? This is what I mean!!...ah...sorry?...

  • wow its u

  • lol? the whole point of the movie is that it's two men in love when they according to society shouldn't be. so ofcourse it wouldnt do well if you took away the whole point of the movie

  • jku250

If you replaced Heath Ledger's character with a woman, the film "wouldn't have done half as well" because the film would no longer make any sense.

  • It's the gay shepard movie. haha, so funny!

  • well if u can say that then u sure got no head

    cuz ure too narrow-minded

we're in 2008, thank you very much

"love is a force of nature"

  • im sorry if that's what u rly meant

but looks to me that many ppl misunderstood u too, since u wrote ""Brokeback Mountain" was a horrible Love story if you think about it, and didn't make sense."

    it's kinda confusing u know...

  • Yeah, I don't know how the Oscars thought Crash was better...

  • Why didn't Heath win the Bafta for best actor as well? And Michelle deserved it too for best supporting actress...

  • atometent should have won the oscar for best picture, but it won the bafta.

  • Heath was the greatest actor

    ever

  • i love how matt dillon's face looks like

oh wow we should've won that too

    BBM deserved the OSCAR too

they were robbed i was sooo

    pissed off.

  • i love that film and i love Heath Ledger!!;)♥

  • the oscars and the baftas will be sad this year without heath !i have no doubt he would have won stacks of awards for his performance as the joker !

  • @Valhallavixen i agree

  • Crash still sucks! I saw Brokeback again for the umpteenth time last night on TV and it still makes me cry. A true icon of a movie. The only thing Trash is an icon of is the Dollar DVD Bin at WalMart.

  • oh crash i heard that movie won some award instead of brokback mountain i was like wtf

  • Thank God people in the UK have great taste lol

here in the US, some states banned the film...

    how ignorant is that?

    lol

  • What states banned the film? That is completely ridiculous. We are so sheltered here, it is like some people live under a damn rock. So embarrassing.

  • I know Utah was one for sure, but I still cant find the other one. Its ridiculous! lol

  • I live in Utah and i couldn't believe they'd done that!! it was just so stupid!!

  • Is that even legal? Wow... but I guess it's a good thing in a way... It gives the movie more publicity and people would hopefully want to see it more! (Isn't reverse psychology great?) ... though it still pisses me off...

  • pissed me off too.

  • I am offically refering to it as "The Gay Shepard Movie" now, every time someone I know disses it. xDDD

  • i love BBM and im so glad that here in the UK we gave it the award it deserves!:-)

  • The United Kingdom has a rich history of famous British actors/actresses. Lawrence Olivier, Bob Hope, Elizabeth Taylor, Wendy Hiller, Sean Connery, Ian McKellan, Orlando Bloom, Jude Law, Helen Mirren, Patricia Routledge, Peter O'Toole, Joan Collins, Judi Dench, Kenneth Branaugh, Clive Owens, Daniel Craig, Richard Burton, Angela Lansbury, and Joanna Lumley. Combined with American film and television as well as the authority of awards, the Oscars, the Anglosphere dominates the entertainment world.

  • cary grant :)

  • totally agree even im not british, but you forgot Vivien Leigh,Elizabeth Taylor,Charles Chaplin,Maggie Smith,Cary Grant,Miranda Richardson, ufff, we'll never finish, congratulations

  • that movie was phenominal.

i've watched like 4 gay movies though and in each one one of the people die, which gets really annoying after awhile

even though that's what made this film so amazing, they should've at least had his ashes spread on bb. rather than have him lose everything

  • But it ends like real life, not a hollywood ending.

  • rip heath

  • Jake is so sweet.

  • aha! Rupert over there!

  • Anybody who has a problem w/ Brokeback Mountain needs 2 got over themselves...if ur in luv w/ the same sex then go 4 it!

    R.I.P. Heath <3

  • Brokeback mountain is a love story....it just happens to be a love story between two men.

If you're not the kind of person who likes love stories then obviously it would be boring

  • The emotion I felt at the end of Brokeback Mountain haunted me for days afterwards. That's the sign of a truly great movie, that it stays in your mind like that. Unfortunately some people seem to dismiss it as "boring" because I don't think they open themselves up completely to the two central characters of Jack and Ennis. When you sympathise with and understand their situation it becomes an incredible movie. If you feel uncomfortable or can't sympathise with them it probably just seems boring.

  • who cares bout trash, i mean "crash".

brokeback mountain is the best picture of 2006 in our heart. let the homophobic oscar voters go cheer thier monkey asses off.

we all know in our heart, brokeback mountain is a timeless epic.

  • It's a matter of taste. Brokeback wasn't boring if you took the time to appreciate and understand it. True, it didn't have explosions and cops with guns like Crash did, but that certainly doesn't qualify it as "better."

  • i know! u said it! its a matter of taste and meaning. it shows people that they cant hide there true idenity!

and yeah it does qualify as better then crash! u said it!

    heath and jake are awesome

    r.i.p MY BABY heath

  • In my opinion, Crash was a shallow piece of tripe.

"Racial controversy! Be upset audiences, please be upset!"

At least Brokeback Mountain broke some walls.

Not to mention the stellar acting.

  • yeah ryt!
